rumblytumbly's rush

Hey Everybody,

I'm starting rush in less than a week and I'm so excited! None of my friends are going through rush and I don't have a greek family so I thought I could share my experiences with you guys. I'm not going to tell you which school I am at (I'm sure you could figure it out if you really wanted) cause I'm a little paranoid but I'll tell you after bid day.

I'd really love some support in this endeavor,
Rumblytumbly:D

rusheemom 08-10-2006 02:06 PM

My daughter starts rush next week also! Good Luck to you!!

rumblytumbly 08-10-2006 02:43 PM

Drolefille 08-10-2006 02:47 PM

6 Days!

So I'm trying to go in w/ an open mind but I am sort of looking forward to Peter Pan, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Snow White. I have recs for 6 of the 11 houses. I picked out all my outfits a few weeks ago so I need to make some changes and make sure I have everything. I'm getting a little nervous...

Jimmy Choo 08-11-2006 05:47 PM

Stay calm and be yourself! Good luck!

Stef the Pef 08-11-2006 09:58 PM

Don't get TOO nervous...everyone else is just as nervous as you are, I promise. :)

Good luck!

I've started having weird dreams about Rush.

Again, Try not to worry too much - I can tell you from experience as a pnm - collegiate - sorority exec - alumnae - and and advisor . . . WE ARE ALL HAVING THOSE CRAZY -

1) I woke up late and missed the first parties
2) I wore shorts to pref
3) I went to the wrong place to meet for recruitment
4) I spilled grapejuice on the sister/pnm

Dreams . . .

Heck I am an advisor and I still get nervous prior to recruitment - everyone wants to make a great impression on everyone else.

I doubt this helps you too much but misery loves company so I thought you might appreciate that we are all praying for you and want you to be happy no matter what happens. (I say you meaning 1) you and 2) all pnms)

Weird Dreams

Weird dreams always happen when you're nervous in an excited way I have found. I don't have weird dreams when my kids go on a road trip for example, but every single year, about a week before school starts and I start teaching, I have that one crazy ole dream. Even this year (year 16 on the job) with a new job as a counselor, 5 days before I go back, I have that one, crazy, strange, hilarious dream. Enjoy them, and laugh at them. It our body's way of saying relax, it will never be as bad as the dream."

rumblytumbly 08-13-2006 02:55 PM

Well they weren't so much bad dreams. One of them was about how I had to find a chopsticks wrapper before they'd let me into the house.

Okay - I think that officially qualifies as a wierd dream!!!:p (did you eat Chinese food before you went to bed?):)

volsgirl2006 08-13-2006 05:01 PM

Why am I even putting myself through this?

I had a dream that all my friends from highschool and new roomates all got into that same sorority that I really liked and I was left out   That's the only dream I've had so far but it is my worst fear. I just want it to be over with and settled. I hope I don't regret rushing

rumblytumbly 08-16-2006 10:55 AM

Ok so rush starts tomorrow!:D Today I have an info meeting. Just wanted to give you all an update. Well I'm off to get my nails done. Wish me luck!

OrangeJuice 08-16-2006 11:06 AM

Haha! Me too!

rho4life 08-16-2006 01:48 PM

go Aladin and Bambi. I just need to pick someone to root for so I feel invested in it! LOL. Good Luck!

SIGKAP DAWG 08-16-2006 01:56 PM

Be true to yourself, if it's right, you'll know it. Do NOT be stressed out over cuts. sometimes one that cuts you, that you think you really like, you actually realize later it would be a disaster to be with those girls. Everything will be fine. Just remember our Greek system is great. I wouldn't have missed it for the world, if I had been DES or KLM. It doesn't matter.

Lily1909 08-16-2006 07:13 PM

Have fun during recruitment!

rumblytumbly 08-17-2006 10:12 AM

Alright you guys, I'm off to set 1. I couldn't sleep at all last night. A couple of disatrous things happened to me but i can't really reveal them cause they're kind of incriminating (maybe it'll make me memorable lol). There were so many girls last night and they were all gorgeous! Well, here I go...

pinkyphimu 08-17-2006 10:14 AM

good luck today!! have a blast!

rumblytumbly 08-18-2006 12:30 AM

Oh my gosh the first day was so amazing!:D Everybody was really nice and made me feel so comfortable. I almost kinda hope I'll get cut a little bit because all the chapters seem great and it would be hard to decide.
(I talked to about 5 girls in each house)
Today I visited:
Pocahontas - When I first sat down at this chapter I felt like I was in an interview. The first question I was asked totally put me on the spot and I kept stuttering as I tried to find a good answer. It turned out that the girl just wanted to know a lot about me and not such general stuff. When they were singing their door song some of the girls looked bored (I'm sure they were just tired but it turned me off).
The Little Mermaid - This was the first chapter I went to so I was pretty nervous. There were a couple awkward spots but they didn't even last more than a second, in fact I didn't have any awkward pauses in any of the houses we went to. I'd like to go back to this house to see if it was just nerves or if it's that we don't click as well as I thought we would.
Snow White - We had good conversation and nothing seemed forced but I couldn't really see myself in this house.
Beauty and the Beast - I didn't really know much about this house prior to today. When I first saw the girls I thought we'd have absolutely nothing in common, but this is the house I think I liked the most. We really seemed to click. The girls knew a lot about their sisters.
Peter Pan - I was really looking forward to this house and was a little disappointed. The first girl I talked to really didn't seem interested in me at all. She just asked the usually questions and didn't make an effort to spin it to other conversation. I felt like I was doing the work. I really liked the last girl I talked to and wish I had more time with her as we had a lot in common. I'd like to go back to this house to see if the first conversation was just a fluke.

I am so ridiculously excited for tomorrow, yay!

blackngoldengrl 08-18-2006 12:38 AM

I'm so excited that you had a great time! Can't wait to hear about tomorrow-have fun!

pinkyphimu 08-18-2006 11:22 AM

good luck today!!

violetpretty 08-18-2006 12:37 PM

Good luck this week! Can't wait to hear more!

ASUADPi 08-18-2006 01:11 PM

Good Luck with recruitment! Don't forget to have fun!

rumblytumbly 08-18-2006 03:27 PM

I am having such a great time and I love everybody! I just stopped back on my way to lunch to give you another update.
Bambi - This chapter seemed smaller. I only talked to 2 girls and we didn't really seem to have very much in common.
Dumbo - A lot of girls at this chapter had the same major as me. This chapter wasn't tops for me but I'd like to go back.
Cinderella - I got along really well with the girls here and I definitely want to go back.

I still have 3 chapters to see after lunch and then I have to go rank them.

rumblytumbly 08-18-2006 09:10 PM

Ok i'm back.
Aladdin - I had such high hopes for this chapter but felt like I didn't really click with any of the girls. It was almost as if they didn't care about what I had to say, but it was at the end of the day so maybe they were just tired.
Pinocchio - Again, I didn't really seem to click with the girls in this chapter except for the last girl and we only had maybe 30 seconds to talk. I'd like to see them again to see if it was only the girls I talked to.
Alice in Wonderland - The girls here were nice but i felt like they all asked me the exact same questions. I know I should be used to the repetition but it was like it was scripted or something.

Tomorrow I can go back to as many as 8 so this is how I ranked them:
1)Beauty and the Beast
1)Dumbo
1)Alice in Wonderland
1)Peter Pan
1)Aladdin
1)Snow White
1)Cinderella
1)The Little Mermaid
2)Pocahontas
3)Pinocchio
4)Bambi

NutBrnHair 08-18-2006 09:54 PM

Sounds like things are progressing along nicely. Thanks for the updates. We're all pulling for you!

hannahgirl 08-19-2006 12:25 AM

Hope you get some great invites back!!! Good Luck!

rumblytumbly 08-20-2006 01:10 AM

so today I was invited back to 7 houses. I'm really not bothered by being cut as none of the 4 that cut me (Alice in Wonderland, Dumbo, Peter Pan, and Cinderella) were favorites.
Pocahontas - I liked this house more this time around. The girls are really relateable but I still can't see myself as a part of the chapter.
Beauty and the Beast - I love this house! It's my favorite as of now. Their events sounded so fun and I like their philanthropy.
Bambi - I do not like this house. The girl I first talked with asked me and the other girl our names 3 times. She seemed bored even though it was still fairly early in the day. She presented her chapter as if she didn't like it.
Pinocchio - This chapter seemed bored with me as if they didn't want me there. It bothered me that they didn't even try to sound interested. I acted more kindly than they did even though they were the ones that asked me to be there.
Aladdin - I still don't feel a connection here. I was paired up with another girl and she made it impossible for me to get a word in and the girl showing us around didn't seem to mind.
Snow White - I really liked this chapter. I felt much more of a connection this time around.
The Little Mermaid - This chapter is about equal with Snow White. I felt very comfortable here and the girls seemed real.

Tomorrow I can back to as many as 5 and I ranked them in the following order:
1)Snow White
1)Aladdin
1)The Little Mermaid
1)Pocahontas
1)Beauty and the Beast
2)Bambi
3)Pinocchio

I'm so excited to get my schedule tomorrow!

ADPi Conniebama 08-20-2006 01:30 AM

You know it sounds like you are making rational decisions - it looks like there is a wide gap between the sororities you liked and the sororities you didn't like - which is kind of good - it is not fun to be torn

- so (here is my advice for you now) if you do get invited back to and choose to go to one of your least favorites then you can go and see if there is anything there - other wise make sure to make the best impression on everyone - like em or not - because believe it or not the sororities talk to eachother and you can still make good impressions even if you don't plan to have a future there.

rumblytumbly 08-20-2006 08:42 AM

I'm definitely sticking it out through preference night no matter what happens. I just feel that Bambi and Pinocchio don't like me. I had to do all the talking and they were just so disinterested. They're all nice girls but we don't match and I think they know that too so I just don't understand why I recieved invites from them. Maybe they just wanted the chance to see me again and then make their decision. I'll find out soon!

You know, the same thing happened to me at Pref...one of my Pref invites was to a chapter that I'd had at the bottom of my list the whole time because they just seemed lukewarm, like they didn't really like me all that much but were just sort of tolerating me because they had to. Needless to say, the Pref invite came as a shock. Knowing what I know now, though, I guess I've just come to the conclusion that some people just aren't "gushy" rushers...they might not fawn over you and act enthused to have you back at the house, but they might genuinely like you. :)
