CuriousWildcat's recruitment story at UK
I am rushing at University of Kentucky in about 9 days (yay!!!). I feel like a late starter because I only decided to rush about a month ago. I had never really considered being in a sorority until my roommate mentioned rushing (she only wanted to rush to move in a week early, but now she isn't). I did some research and decided a sorority could be something I might really love to be a part of! I am nervous because I only found out about recs about 3 days ago on this forum and I don't know anyone who has ever been in a sorority. I have sent an email to get some contact info from my local alumnae panhellenic to try and get some recs. I can't wait!

Good luck! It's a fun and tiring process, but it's worth it! :)

thanks!
I didnt even see that! |
Hey CuriousWildcat! I am also rushing at UK in....8 days! I'm really excited about it! I don't really know anyone who is rushing, but hopefully I'll be able to meet new people quickly.
I also never seriously considered sorority life until recently, but I think that choosing to rush will be of the best decisions I've made. Hopefully it will lead to a lot of great experiences! See you at rush! GO BIG BLUE! :-) |

Good luck to both of you girls!!!!
I sure hope that it cools down before next week!!!! I just left Lexington about 4 hours ago after moving my daughter into her new house. The Temp was 97 with about 90% humidity!!! You will have the time of your lives at UK, it is a GREAT place to be!!! GO CATS!!! |
Aww, thanks for the support everyone!
5 more days!! |
May you both be purring on Bid Day! =^..^=
|
I'm excited for both of you! I'll be around, helping out as an alum. I wish you both luck in finding your future homes!
|
I am so glad to see that there are two UK people. I think that I am helping out... I know that I will be at alumna night this week. Good luck for you both. Just follow your heart and not your head and you will find your home!
Just FYI... I just became the house association president... I am looking forward to working with Epsilon! Gtown is so different. |
Yea for more SEC PNMs! :)
|
does anyone happen to know (who has been a part of a rush at uk) know approx. how many people are in each gamma chi group or about how many PNM get accepted? We just figured out that there are at least 55 gamma chi groups participating and we want to try and see how many people might be there...

do you know if that was generally true for most other groups?

awesome! Thank you so much!
|
I also remember there being 10-12 girls per group. One girl from my group was cut after the first round of open house. A few others dropped out of recruitment after pref. Only 6 from my group accepted bids.
Again, this is just my personal experience from over 5 years ago! :p I'll be around Sunday, Monday, & Tuesday helping out with recruitment & Thursday for bid-matching. Good luck & HAVE FUN! :D |
Past Recruitment Statistics
Some of your questions might be answered if you look at these statistics:

Rush starts tomorrow! I cant wait to move in and start rush, and college! I will update as much as possible!

I would agree with this statement however, if you dont have good grades coming into recruitment (as in usually higher than the minimum required GPA) you can be expected to be cut heavily at UK and with some chapters more than others. |

recruitment update!!!
So recruitment has been a whirlwind three days so far!
Saturday we moved in, met our gamma chi groups (I love mine!!!) and had a general meeting about what to wear, what we would be doing etc. and then all 937 girls had pizza. Sunday we started visiting houses! It was very overwhelming at first, but by about the third house I got into the swing of things. On sunday we visited the house that I will refer to as: Blue: I really liked this house alot, it made me energetic and I had some really awesome conversations with the girls. I am kinda worried that when/if I go back that I may have like it so much because it was the first house and everything was so new, but I hope not because I seemed to get along with the girls well. turquoise: I didnt really click with any of the girls that I talked to in this house, then didnt really seem to be interested in the conversation or anything about me. Green: This house was ok, I am kind of indifferent, I think that may be because I only talked to one girl and we ran out of things to talk about but I would like to revisit this house and get to talk to more girls. Lime: I really liked this house, the girls seemed diverse and I seemed to mesh really well with all of the girls I talked to. Yellow:This house I didnt feel anything for, the girls I talked to seemed really nervous and jumpy (which Im sure is all on account of being nervous about rushing people) but I didnt feel like I would be comfortable there. Orange: I liked this house a little, but I dont think I could deal with some of their housing policies. On Monday (today) we visited the rest of the houses. Amber: I liked this house and would like to meet some more of the girls. Red: I really liked this house and hope that I get invitedback here, the girls seemed genuinely interested in our conversation and about me and telling me about them. Pink:I also really liked this house and hope to go talk to more of the girls. lilac: I really liked this house, but in retrospect I kind of wonder if it is because other people in my gamma chi group also liked them alot (it seems dumb, but its hard to remember what you felt like in the house some times and other people can influnece what you "remember" about the house) but I am hoping to go again and see how I feel. Purple: I really liked this house and hope to go back and meet some more of the girls. Violet:I didnt feel any connection with the girls here and felt as if they didnt really have any interest in me. We had to narrow the 12 houses down to the 8 we wanted to return to tomorrow and I hope to get invited back to: Blue Green Lime Amber Red Pink Lilac Purple I would as of right now, off of initial impressions, my favorites are: Blue Lime Red Purple So in the morning we find out where we are invited back to! I will let you know! Its kind of weird to have to eliminate some, but there are some houses I knew immediately that I didnt click with the overall personality type of the house so those were easy, but the difficult ones were the ones that were gray area. Some of the ones I didnt put on my preference card were just because I was indifferent after talking to several girls, where as some I did chose I felt indifferent after only talking to one girl. So I picked the one where I was exposed to less people. This is all so very exciting! I cant wait for tomorrow! crzychx- I have blisters from my flip flops, and I wear them EVERY DAY of my life!!! Even in winter (crazy I know!). If I walk half as much on a regular basis, there is nooooo way to gain the freshman 15! |
CW... I'm so glad that you have a great day... the weather was warm but not as hot as it could have been. I'm hoping that the weather holds up for you. As to walking.. how in the world did KKG end up so far away from the rest of the sorority groups and why don't that they have Lextrans running shuttles between the houses. A sorority sister, who works downtown near me, ... we ran over to our house for an hour today to help during lunch and saw all of you all and both said thanks for not having rushed at UK. It would suck to have to pref KKG and whatever chapter is on the other side of campus... wearing heals and walking the length of the mall twice.
Explain this to me, someone from UK (or a big SEC school) why did she have to list her top 8 today? Wouldn't she get to wait till tomorrow to see who invited her back before having to make cuts? Good luck tomorrow... wherever your sore flip flops take you! |
that is where the mutual selection comes in. while the sorority members are determining who they will invite back, the pnms are deciding who they will return to.
cw, i am glad that you gave, (orange was it?)the benefit of the doubt. you probably were being rushed by someone who is experiencing recruitment on the sorority side for the first time. that can be just as intimidating as being a pnm-all the sororities want the pnms to like them!! just remember, if when they greet you, they have that "deer in the headlights look", they are probably new to the game too!! :) |

Its not crazy! I used to wear flip flops in the winter too-snow, rain, or sunshine! (My feet determine my body temp so I like to keep them cool-I HATE being hot!) My flippies didn't make any blisters, but I was doing a lot more standing than walking! :p I really hope that you get invited back to the houses you like, and more importantly I hope you find a home. Have a great day tomorrow & the rest of the week. |
