The 2006 Carnation Rush Thread

Hola! For about the first time since 2000, none of our daughters are rushing (for newbies, I have 5 Greek daughters so far). But we do have several friends whose daughters are rushing, so upon request from several GCers, I will try to do a recruitment thread for all of them.:)

Right off hand I can think of 5 girls who are rushing at Auburn, 1 at Ga Tech, and 1 at UGa. All of them and/or their moms have promised to update me but that may fall through once parties start!

Recruitment parties start at Auburn on Monday. War Eagle! The first 2 days, they'll have 16 ice water teas (8 each day). The next 2 days, they have 12 parties, 6 each day. Cuts should be heavy after those parties. Now I'm forgetting exactly which parties they have next but they finish with 3 pref parties and Bid Day is the 13th. Bid Day is a huge big deal at Auburn, with hundreds of parents going down to be outside when their daughters get their bids and run to the sorority receptions.

I'm going to be really original this year! I'm going to call the girls Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, and Purple. (Rainbow order is the only way I can remember who's who.) I'll try my best to get daily updates although I won't contact them until first parties are over--it's so wild at first. Good luck, Rainbow Girls!

I love rush threads! I'm excited there's one starting so soon!

carnation 08-03-2006 03:37 PM

A Pi Phi alum just told me that over 1300 women have registered!

OtterXO 08-03-2006 03:39 PM

Holy crap that's a lot! Doing the math quickly in my head 1300/16 = potential pledge classes of 81!?

but you also have to account for the women who will be dropped or will drop out themselves.

If 25% drop / get dropped, potential pledge classes (quota) would be 61. Still quite large.

But from what I've been told and heard, that is normal for an SEC school or large southern school (such as FSU or University of South Carolina). I could be wrong though...

I think you're right....it's still pretty big in my book! :)

carnation 08-03-2006 03:53 PM

I expect quota, as usual, will be pretty big. Ever since Auburn instituted the new release figures, which seem to work quite well there, almost everyone has gotten quota. Last year I believe that 15 of 16 groups took quota.

Oh boy! I'm expecting to see scads of new members wearing arrows, keys, anchors, tridents, and all those other cool pins! Warrrr EAGLE!!!!

I totally agree! I think a pledge class of 5 is too small and one of over 60 is too big, the ideal pc i would say is in the 30's. but I will be dreaming to get one that size...I can't wait to hopefully meet my new sisters!! Only 17 days left until Bid Day!:)

I don't know of many groups that aren't already at AU that could take on a school like that.

Point made, though it would seem in the panhellenic best interest to bring someone else on campus...

was there ever a Theta chapter at Auburn?

Yay for the Rainbow Girls!

FSUZeta 08-03-2006 05:08 PM

Thank you!

Yes, there was a Theta chapter for a long time and they were Pi Phi's next door neighbors back in the day. We want them back!

Drolefille 08-03-2006 05:24 PM

Are you going to keep track of the 2 non-Auburns too? Where do they fit in the Rainbow scheme?

Sending them good thoughts!

carnation 08-03-2006 05:37 PM

LOL. They can be Orange and Indigo. Of course, my husband the science teacher had to point out that I got the first 5 in the wrong order of the rainbow, I just knew I was going to do that. Tough, it gets left that way at this point!

Here's hoping for frigid temperatures in the eighties and no rain during the day!

Drolefille 08-03-2006 05:40 PM

ROY G. BIV :D or BIP if you use purple instead of violet

Theta left AU back in 1999 or 2000.

A pledge class of 60ish is what I would expect.

Good luck to all the AU sororities!!

FYI: The University of South Carolina *is* an SEC school.

Quota at UGA is usually between 54 and 64, and we don't place as many women as AU. I wouldn't be surprised if their quota was 61 or higher.

Ocalagirl 08-03-2006 08:45 PM

oops I thought it wasn't...oh well! but you got the point I was trying to make.

Munchkin03 08-03-2006 09:26 PM

I'll be reading this one! I sent off a few Auburn recommendations for hometown girls this weekend!

I know that they increased the GPA threshhold due to the fact that it's so competitive to get into Auburn now. This will probably cause a few cuts as well...

hannahgirl 08-04-2006 10:57 PM

Good Luck to the Rainbow Girls!!! Can't wait to hear where they all end up! :)

Just out of curiousity, what was the old GPA cut and what is the new?

I think Auburn usually loses, what, about 200 PNMs? So if that's all they lose this year, quota could be 70 or above!

The year I pledged, at URI, the classes were the largest ever, at 63 women! Back then there were six NPC's, then my senior year a seventh came. Now, they're at something like 16 and the new member classes way smaller.

AUAZD2001 08-06-2006 07:01 PM

1999 was Theta's last Rush (the same year as my big sis), but I don't know if they made it to winter/spring quarter, or whether they left soon after Rush.

Ocalagirl 08-06-2006 07:22 PM

Great AXD website there at Auburn...actually all the websites were awesome and very informative!

Their chapter room is still open. I've gone down there before (Theta's chapter room is in Sassnet, which also houses DG). They have a kite painted on the wall along with "Kappa Alpha Theta" painted. It would be great to have them back!

Our chapter alumnae raised the money last summer for that website (it was my first donation to the chapter). I like it too, but I wish it had a lot more pictures on it. And I wish they would update the "Sisters Only" section.

I've actually seen it. I think somebody left the door open one night and I could see it through the back door since it backed up to the Dowell Hall parking lot.

Munchkin03 08-06-2006 08:09 PM

Which dorm is the GPhiB suite in? I stayed in that dorm for a camp in HS...

texas*princess 08-06-2006 08:31 PM

When I was a collegian, Quota was in the mid to upper 20's...*maybe* even low 30's.

I could not possibly imagine a pledge class of 60+ women!

Best of luck to all the Rainbow Girls!

Leischuck :)

carnation 08-07-2006 10:16 AM

Leischuck? Did they name a dorm after Emily Leischuck?

So the girls have probably started off on the first round of parties! I'm sure that all the PNMs are stunned by gorgeousness of so many of the other PNMs--it's startling. I remember when the feminist Gloria Steinem came to AU and she looked around at the audience and said she'd never seen so many beautiful women on one campus. LOL. It sure unnerves the rushees, though, when they realize that these women are their competition.

I may not hear from any moms until first invitations come back on Wednesday. This is okay! I start teaching tomorrow anyway.:)

Yes :)

Even though recruitment involves looooooooooong hours and no sleep, I do miss talking to the PNMs and finding your future sisters!
