If Sigma could colonize anywhere...
...where would you like to see a new colony? Why?
My vote would be an SEC school. Feasible? Probably not since those schools are steeped in tradition and have their tiers established, BUT I think a future colony at an SEC school would be great. |
Hi there! Please read the rules and introduce yourself in the "Are there any Tri Sigmas out there" thread! Interesting that you should say this because we've been asked to colonize at LSU when it WAS open for expansion. With 4 chapters in that state and tons of alumnae, it seemed like a good idea. We decided against it because it was too risky. Many sororities have unsuccessfully attempted to colonize there. Back to topic: I'd like to see us back at IU-Bloomington and Florida State. *We have 6 chapters in Wisconsin. I'd like to see us at UW-Madison since we're at a few of the smaller UW schools. * NC State is one I'd like to see since we are also big in that state. *I'd like to see us at another school in Ohio (maybe OU,Cleveland State, or one of the smaller private schools here). * I'd like to see us more in the west, preferably at one of the CSU or UC schools. *I'd like to see us in Canada, since there are a few NPC sororities who have been sucessful there. There are many more but this just the short list! |

Sorry to crash:
What about University of Missouri (Mizzou)? Tri-Sigma has 7 or 8 chapters in Missouri schools and a pretty good rep. I think it would be a good choice. |

Sorrry to crash but I also think UW-Madison needs a Tri Sigma Chapter. I have some good friends from the UW-Whitewater chapter and I have meet other Tri-Sigma's from other chapters in Wisconsin and you gals are all great. Madison would greatly benefit in having a Tri Sigma chapter. The only thing that would benefit Madison more is a recolonized Lambda Chi chapter.

Being a Louisville native, I would love to see us start a colony at U of L. There are only two chapters in the state of Kentucky and I'd love to see more. I know there are a number of recent alums from my chapter, Alpha Chi, that would love to help out with a new colony in Louisville. Plus, the Alpha Chi chapter is a great chapter and well established, I know a lot of those girls would be happy to come help out.
A few years ago we at Alpha Chi had talked about how cool it would be to help start a colony at U of L. And also how we could as a chapter get the new girls their letter jackets for Initiation like our bigs did for us. |

Not too sure since I don't live there anymore. I think it's pretty good. They've got a decent number of sororities and fraternities, although I say there's room for one more . . . Sigma!

Excuse me for crashing:
University of Missouri - Columbia, announced it is opening for expansion/extension. Hopefully, Sigma Sigma Sigma will make a presentation. As I noted earlier, you ladies have a strong presence in Missouri. Truman State University Culver-Stockton College University of Central Missouri (former Central Missouri State University) Missouri State University (former Southwest Missouri State University) Missouri Western State University Northwest Missouri State University Southeast Missouri State University Stephens College (located in Columbia) |
I'm personally from California and I really wish we had more Tri-Sigma chapters there! There's currently only one at CSU East Bay. Maybe if I decide to move back to California, I'll try to open an chapter there haha

For those of you who aren't familiar with how Panhellenic expansion works, the schools below have voted to add a new sorority to their campus (opened for expansion). The schools choose 2, 3, or 4 sororities that they are interested in. National staff members from each chosen sorority come and make presentations to the school's Panhellenic Council. The school then chooses which sorority they would like to become a colony on their campus. Now that I've explained it...
Just wanted to let you all know that we have been asked to present at 2 schools recently: *University of Texas at San Antonio is open for expansion and has asked Sigma to present along with Zeta Tau Alpha, Gamma Phi Beta & Alpha Gamma Delta! *University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is open for expansion and has asked Sigma to present along with Alpha Xi Delta & Alpha Sigma Tau! I'll let you know of course who has been selected to colonize when decisions are made.:) |
I still hope for another SoCal chapter, but for some reason we don't seem to do well....I am still hoping...
I wish we were asked to present at Chapman Nothing but good wishes to the teams for UI-UC & UT-SA Gwyn |
I would love to see a chapter at Ohio State University & I know it would be practically impossible to re-open the Rutgers (New Brunswick) Chapter.

I'm still waiting to hear about Illinois-UC! |
U of Illinois ended up selecting Alpha Xi Delta to recolonize their Kappa chapter there this fall!
I'm pleased to announce that the University of Missouri (aka Mizzou) is now open for expansion! We have been asked to present this fall along with Alpha Xi Delta and Alpha Gamma Delta! |
have we ever had a chapter at mizzou? it would be great to get back into some of the big schools again (not that there is anything wrong with a chapter at a small school...i was in one of them). what colonies do we have out there right now?

Pratt Institute (NYC)- we will join Theta Phi Alpha as the second NPC on campus University of Wisconsin at Parkside- we're the first NPC on camous there. |
Arkansas
Alpha Omricon in Arkansas is also a colony from last semester. It is a redevelopment. Parkside colonized in Fall 2006. Pratt is colonizing in Fall 2007.
KSUviolet, I looked through my convention notes. I can't find the other colony for Fall 2007 or the 2 redevelopments. |
I thought I'd bring this back up to the top since it's getting quiet here!
Recolonizations I'd like to see: Rho (Florida State) & Kappa (Miami OH), Beta Kappa (Arizona State) If we could colonize anywhere (dream colonizations): *a school in TN since we have no chapters there (like UT-Chattanooga) *one of the smaller private schools in OH like (i.e. Ashland, Tiffin) *I'd like to see us in AL at one of the smaller state schools like UAB or USA. |
I concur with Beta Kappa...even though I am now an Iota Alpha....
Beta Kappa brought Sigma into my life and I would love for the chapter to comeback. WE NEED MORE CALIFORNIA CHAPTERS! So those would be new installations or recolonization...Delta Iota (?) LMU, would be prefect for me, since it is nearby. I have to think more on it. |
Just bumping in case anyne has any info concerning places we may be presenting (that is public knowledge of course) or wants to talk about places they'd like to see us colonize!
|
I don't want to be mean...but I read that Duke just had to close a chapter. They are discussing possible expansion...we have such phenomenal chapters in NC it would be great to get one more!

After colonizing at Mizzou, I would think that going to a bigger campus seems to be positive. If things seem to fit into place. (which I guess so with 140 girls).
Is it me or does anyone else see the excitement of being there? Seems like the last couple of Triangles had articles, the national website seemed to carry quite a bit. I don't remember having a new colony promoted as much as Mizzou.... |
I wonder
With the installation of Pratt this week and Mizzou in January, I wonder if there will be any colonizations in the spring.
|
We're still actively seeking viable options for extension efforts and are hoping that we do receive presentation requests soon. Hopefully we'll receive word soon on those opportunities. :)
|
You ladies are installing the Eta Phi chapter at the Pratt Institute this weekend, according to your national website- congratulations to you all!
|
Thanks! :) I'm really excited about Eta Phi- I just came from prepping them for their installation and they are a great group of women!
Next up, Eta Chi at Mizzou in Jan.! I'm excited about that one, too! :) |
There was a recent post in the expansion thread in the Greek Life forum, announcing that the following schools are open for expansion:
Florida Atlantic University Southern Utah University St. John's University - Queens (Main Campus) St. John's University - Staten Island - adding a second NPC University of Oregon University of Cincinnati Valdosta State University Lake Erie College (OH) Kansas State University San Jose State University It's going to be really exciting to see if we express interest in any of these schools, and if we are asked to make presentations at any of them. I'd love to see us at Lake Erie or Cincy (since I'm in Ohio). I'd also like to see us recolonize our Kansas State chapter (Delta Phi). |
An FAU colony would be exciting for me, considering my chapter (Zeta Epsilon) and my cousin's chapter (Eta Eta) would both be able to assist! Still, our lack of chapters at the big state school could hurt us in that aspect. But Eta Eta is doing well, and they are 15 mins. away from FAU, which is a positive!
San Jose State is my mom's alma mater, and that would make me CRAZY excited. Epsilon Alpha is 20 mins. away from SJSU, and they are also doing well. Similar to an FAU decision, we only have one CA chapter... We previously presented at Lake Erie, and it was a good presentation, so that could give us a strong chance of being given the opportunity to try again! I hope so! And then, there's the BIG DADDY: I would be SO excited for Tri Sigma to return to K-State. Our success at Mizzou and the strength of our chapters in KS could be a good indicator for how we would stand there. I'm crossing my fingers for all of these!!! :) It would be great for us to join any of these PHC communities! Eagerly anticipating the results... |
I would love to see Phi (Ohio University) being recolonized as well as Kappa (Miami University), Beta Psi (Youngstown State University) and Beta Gamma (Ball State University). I feel that Ohio is sorely underrepresented with only two chapters...with only one being a big state university. Eta Iota is all by its lonesome in NW Ohio....

Fun fact: Owners of Alpha House, our official vendor are both Kappa chapter alumnae. |

Ole Miss
This would be a stretch I think, but then again this is "dream" colonizations right?!
I'll be moving to Mississippi soon, and with no collegiate or alumni chapters, I'd love to see us at Ole Miss! However, I know with huge schools like that it takes a lot of time and money to make a go at it. (I'll keep my fingers crossed in the meantime not just for this school but for all our dream colonizations/redevelopments!) |
I would love to see Sigma colonize at Valdosta State University! Being a transplant to Georgia (originally from SC, where Sigma has 4 chapters), everyone always looks at me strange when I say which sorority I was a member of. It's kinda like...If they don't have it at UGA, no one knows about it ;-)
It would be nice to feel some more Sigma love here in the Peach state! |

After just reading today that Phi Mu took 252 new members in their first recruitment at the University of South Carolina. Too bad we couldn't have an opportunity like that. With 4 Sigma chapters already in that state. |
Here's hope for Rho Chapter
Florida State is open for expansion. I believe the housing corporation still owns the house.
ETA: Rho was chartered in 2/2/1920 and remained open until 1990. In 1992, Rho was redeveloped and remained open until 1999. |
