I got my badge yesterday!!!!

Whoo Hoo!!! My *beautiful* ASA badge arrived yesterday. I was kicking myself for not ordering a fancier badge until I opened that package today. I was really surprised how very pretty the plain version is in person. I saw my sponsor's badge, but I didn't get a close look.

LM:D

Yay! That must be exciting to get to hold your badge and realize that it is yours. :)

Drolefille 07-28-2006 11:00 AM

YAY how exciting! Congrats! :D

scbelle 07-28-2006 11:00 AM

Hooray!!!! I'm so happy for you! I think the badge is like an engagement ring. You can shop around and fall in love with the fancy ones, not afford them and end up getting something not as ornate, but it's the meaning behind the piece of jewelry that's the important thing... unless you're Elizabeth Talyor.

tunatartare 07-28-2006 11:02 AM

Congratulations! That's so exciting! Do you have an initiation date yet?

AlphaFrog 07-28-2006 11:02 AM

Yay for actually HAVING your badge to get initiated with!!! We had to use our big sis's because ours were never actually in on time.:) Congrats, my one-step-closer almost sister.:D

LPIDelta 07-28-2006 11:05 AM

That is VERY exciting!! Yeah you! Especiall since you've waited as long as you have, I am sure it is very beautiful!

I am not sure about ASA, but some groups will let you 'upgrade' your badge. That may be something you'd consider doing to celebrate your 10th, 20th, or50th ASA-aversary. :)

One of our advisors upgraded when she visited HQ. She paid the difference between the plain & the jeweled, and I believe she got to keep her plain one, or she could donate it.

Congratulations! Welcome to the Farmville 4! I'm sure you'll be a great asset to Alpha Sigma Alpha :)

LouisaMay 07-28-2006 01:35 PM

Thanks, everyone!
I would like to upgrade in the future. For now, I'm pleased as punch:) Now I just need to get initiated. No, the date hasn't been set yet.

tinydancer 07-28-2006 02:03 PM

Yippee!! I remember how excited I was when I got my badge. It was some time after I was initiated, though. I wore my sponsor's badge in the meantime.

It IS exciting when you get your badge. I was so happy when I got mine.

It's kind of interesting that ASA lets you order a badge prior to initiation. I wore the badge of one of my Tri Delta sponsors (the woman who guided me through the initiation ceremony) until I received mine.

Congratulations!

jhujenn 07-28-2006 05:18 PM

It also probably depends on the organization. ri-Delta puts the chapter and member number on the back of your badge, which before fall recruitment you wouldn't know what your member number would be.

Tom Earp 07-28-2006 05:49 PM

Well L M how plain is it?

I thought the plain Badge was with just pearls which is very nice!:)

PM Me, I would be interested to find out if I am right!:D

Scandia 07-28-2006 07:00 PM

That is wonderful. Congratulations.

I cannot wait till I hear more news from the ones I am pursuing.

navane 07-28-2006 07:23 PM

How wonderful! It's always a special moment when one gets to gaze upon her badge for the first time! :) Mine came in before the convention; so, I was able to get initiated with my own badge. Otherwise, I think my Big Sister would have lent me one of her historical badges.

.....Kelly :)

Jill1228 07-28-2006 09:57 PM

YAY! I didn't get my badge until about 3 months after initiation. I know you have gotta be stoked

Xidelt 07-28-2006 10:53 PM

Congratulations on getting your badge!!! Good luck keeping busy 'til initiation!;)

AGDLynn 07-28-2006 11:16 PM

In Alpha Gamma Delta, it is an Initiation requirement that you must order your Badge at that time.

When I pledged in the dino age and b/c the chapter was only 2.5 years old lol, we all ordered the all pearl Badge with Chapter guard. These days almost everyone orders the plain (no pearl Badge) and no Chapter Guard.

I know Badges can be expensive but I wish they would at least order the Chapter Guard.

A few years ago, I ordered a plain Badge, which I have to "lend" to a collegiate every now and then when she forgets hers, lol.

Congratulations on your Badge!! :D

In a way it's kind of nice to have everything ready ahead of time.

That's not necessarily true. I waited a long, long, long time to be initiated after the paperwork was in and approved-- and I didn't get my badge for about four to six months AFTER being initiated. Burr, Patterson and Auld had a hold on my badge because in ZTA, no badges are released until they have your initiation number. Each GLO is different.

ZTA also doesn't have "sponsors"-- so I was badgeless until my number was finally sent to the jewelry company. But.. it was so worth waiting for!

So happy for you, LouisaMay! Don't worry about not getting a fancy badge.. it's not the badge, but what it stands for! It will become even more beautiful once you're initiated and learn what everything means in ASA!

Congrats!

I just think it is awesome to hear more of your story. You worked long and hard and I know this badge has got to mean the world to you! Congratulations!!!
