best wishes for a great recruitment . can't wait to read your posts!!

curlygirly912 07-24-2006 05:31 PM

I'm also rushing at UCF, I'm super excited but really nervous!! I've been working on recs all summer also.

Ocalagirl 07-24-2006 05:31 PM

I wish recruitment was here already!

curlygirly912 07-24-2006 05:36 PM

I know I cant wait!! Good luck!

Ocalagirl 07-24-2006 05:50 PM

You too!

ASUADPi 07-24-2006 05:54 PM

Rooting for Aubrey, because that's my cousin's name. LOL.

Hope you have a wonderful time at recruitment!

adpiucf 07-24-2006 06:12 PM

Good luck with UCF recruitment. I do recommend you keep an open mind in the coming weeks... you may also want to be discreet concerning the number of recs you have to each chapter. I realize you haven't revealed which is which, but it wouldn't be hard for chapter members perusing these boards to read that you have X number of recs to your "second favorite chapter" and look through their files.

Have a great time on Greek Park and don't forget your umbrella!

Ok done! Now no one knows who is who! or so i think..lol :D

UCFalumna 07-24-2006 07:16 PM

Good luck with all your preparations for recruitment! I can't wait to read all about your experience. ADPiUCF just offered you one of the best practical pieces of advice a woman going through recruitment at UCF can get-don't forget your umbrella! I think there are very few women who have ever gone through recruitment at UCF who made it through the week without at least one major rain storm. I think it poured almost every day (except for prefs) the year I went through.

Good luck and have fun!

ADPi Conniebama 07-24-2006 07:26 PM

Wow have yall seen the web sites for these chapters. They all look like great sororities. liltrixx - use those websites for any information you need. Those girls obviously put alot of thought into them.

HAVE A GREAT TIME

And y'all can't forget about blotting papers for when the makeup melts away in the unbearable Orlando August heat! ;)

DominoTheta 07-24-2006 11:16 PM

Good Luck! I am SUPER exited for you! You have TONS of great homes to choose from!

Since the other girls are already choosing sides, I think I will go with Lexi. I love diversity. I, myself, come from a very diverse family.

From a Theta girl at UF, she told me that coffee filters work better than blotting papers at soaking up sweat and oil and don't mess up your makeup! Her Pi Chi's passed them out, but I don't know if our Rho Gamma's will so I am going to bring my own!

f8nacn 07-25-2006 08:44 AM

Good luck on your quest...look forward to reading your adventure.

Drolefille 07-25-2006 09:21 AM

YAY good luck! :)

UCFalumna 07-25-2006 05:38 PM

If I remember correctly, the UCF Rho Gammas did/do carry coffee filters. They are a great trick and work wonders! Most of the Rho Gammas carry just about everything you could ever possibly need and then some!

Never tried coffee filters. Always heard they were better than blotting papers though. My theory is "whatever works."

SparklySmile 08-02-2006 05:34 AM

:) good luck! only 14 more days till recruitment starts...

Ocalagirl 08-02-2006 10:05 AM

Ok so ladies I have a question for ya!

Earlier we were talking about how coffee filters are wonderful to use as oil absorbers and I was wondering what is the best kind to use? White or Brown? Flat, cone shaped or crinkled, cup shaped? A good brand maybe? well thanks!

13 Days until I meet my Rho Gammas at the Info Meeting and two weeks from today I will be visiting the 11 wonderful chapters at UCF!!! YAY:)

The UCF Rho Gammas will have generic, Publix brand coffee filters. They get the job done....I promise.

ok so I shouldn't bring them just in case? I wasn't sure if I should or not but I thought I might just to be on the safe side.

When did they start doing that? I feel terrible, ZTAngel... We totally left you with a shiny face when you went through recruitment!

Stop at Bath and Body Works or Sephora. They sell blotting papers for $7-$10. Or Target: Clean & Clear makes them, too. Small enough to fit in a pocket.

Also, remember: waterproof mascara.

My Rho Chi (or Gamma...whatever) had coffee filters. And your PNMs were in the same group as mine so maybe your girls just borrowed my PX's coffee filters! :)

Kerri planned ahead. LOL.

We were the last "Rho Chi's" at UCF before they went to Gams or whatever they are calling them now... we even had our own hottie cheer:
R-H-O
C-H-I
We're the best! That ain't no lie!
Shah booty! Shah booty! Shah Shah Shah Booty Rho Chi!

(Thank you, Corrine from Alpha Xi, wherever you are, for that little ditty...)

ETA: because I left out a Shah Booty. Wouldn't want that to happen.

Stef the Pef 08-03-2006 12:01 AM

Good luck liltrixx!

I recommend keeping a mirror, a brush or comb, some concealer, and lipstick in your purse for between parties, if they let you carry stuff. Freshen up and go in looking great.

Abbey, I just imagined you doing that cheer. It was a cute image. :p

Well the UCF rho gams have a little cheer themselves now (or they did when I first went through a few years ago). It went to the tune of row row row your boat. It's ashame i don't remember all the words just the first line, maybe I should ask my rho gam haha :)

"rho rho rho gamma" is what I can remember!

adpiucf 08-03-2006 12:06 PM

Very cute! On that note, I had a friend at Rice University who was a member of the crew team. Rice doesn't have a Greek System, but the crew team members talked about getting letter shirts that said "Rho Rho Rho!"

ADPi Conniebama 08-08-2006 08:08 PM

Mothers - Fathers - Uncles - Aunts - Cousins - sisters. The entire famiily is totally welcome.

I am speaking for UNA and Bama - I think I can speak for Samford and Birmingham Southern too. I know that at all of those locations families are totally invited to the bid day festivities.

My mother didn't come - she didn't care about that kind of stuff but alot of parents were totally there until they got bored and "cut a check" then left ha ha. Usually house mothers and/or advisors "attend" to the parents and family. - It gives us something to do.

This is so exciting - I, so, love formal fall recruitment. I envy you getting to be at the beginning of all of this.

Sure, if you want to invite your aunt go for it I am sure she would at least know what is going on and be able to answer any questions and she would also know when you would be comfortable for her to leave. (do they have DZ where you are going to school? - even if they do and you go somewhere else I know she would be totally welcome to the house/dorm/whatever - but wouldn't it be cool if you chose her sorority - sorry I love "family sisters)

HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!!!

No unfortunately there is no DZ chapter at UCF :( They have ADPI, AEPhi, AXiD, Chi-O, DDD, DG, KAT, KD, KKG, Pi Phi, and ZTA.

southernyankee 08-08-2006 08:51 PM

I know ole miss has alot of parents there on bid day too.:)

I was going to invite my aunt, who is a Delta Zeta, to come if other mothers came but I didn't know.

No parents, relatives, etc., at UCF Bid Day, please. This event is for collegians only. Many chapters restrict alumnae involvement on this day, too. It's a hectic, crowded and fun day, but this is a day to spend with your new sisters. Moms don't come to this event and there would be no accomodation for those who do. The chapters are equipped to handle their members and the volunteers supporting them that day.

Your family is welcome to attend all of the great events ahead at UCF Family Weekend. If you join a sorority, there will be special activities for your relatives with your organization.

Unless your mom, sister, grandma, aunt, etc. is an alumnae from the chapter that you got a bid to. We had alumnae sisters and aunts of new members come to the house on Bid Day to welcome their family to ZTA.

ADPi Conniebama 08-08-2006 10:10 PM

Yea, sorry, I am sure it is different at different schools. I don't know if your school even has houses or the like so I assume various schools could accomodate less or more as far as family goes -

It was great though to have family watch the "run" when the girls accept their bids and of course the sororities would want to know how many people to plan for on bid day and if the university isn't use to a mob of mothers and/or fathers then I guess it is what ever is the norm at whatever university.

Anyone from your university would, of course, be able to give better advice then I.

UCFalumna 08-09-2006 07:52 PM

Ok, wow! I'll totally admit to being a "list" person. I like to know as much information as humanly possible before I throw myself into a situation and because of this, I can recognize the need to plan and control in others. You have a week to go-take a deep breath! Breathe! It's going to be ok. Relax. You seem to be very prepared-probably more so then most girls going through at UCF. Enjoy the last week of summer!

I know that it's scary because you don't totally know what you're getting into, but there are going to be lots of people (i.e., your Rho Gammas) who will help you get through the week. Don't get so caught up in knowing everything or planning that you forget to enjoy the week and remember each moment.

The other UCF Greeks have offered you great advise. Here's one more thing to keep in mind -(If I remember correctly) PNM's are not allowed to take anything into the houses with them. Your Rho Gamma will probably give you a clear plastic bag to put your essentials in and you'll have to leave that outside in the tent. So, don't stress about bringing tons of stuff with you. Don't forget-your Rho Gammas have been in your shoes before! They know what you need. Just don't forget your umbrella!

PenguinTrax 08-09-2006 08:43 PM

It all depends - I remember last year a thread about Bid Day at 'Bama and parents were invited (including Joe Namath, his daughter pledge ADPi I believe).

bluefish81 08-09-2006 08:59 PM

Good Luck liltrixx! It sounds like you're pretty prepared. I'm rooting for Elizabeth because that's my sister's name.
