Raven Symone to Star in Adventures in Babysitting Remake

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060712/..._nm/raven_dc_2

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Raven-Symone, star of "That's So Raven," is attached to star in the Walt Disney Pictures remake of "Adventures in Babysitting."

Symone also has signed an acting and producing deal with Disney that includes a guaranteed pay or play on one movie, with an option for a second. It is uncertain whether "Babysitting" will be part of that deal.

I'm not sure about this. I loved Adventures in Babysitting in its original form.

PM_Mama00 07-15-2006 10:04 AM

Dear god I hope not! I HATE the way she acts... or should I say over-acts. I thought it was just in That's So Raven but I saw some Lifetime movie with her and while it was toned down, I still found her annoying. Adventures in Babysitting is a great movie, hopefully they don't ruin it by casting her.

Gina1201 07-15-2006 10:13 AM

I don't think it's a good look. I love the original. I can't see RS in that role at all.

ASUADPi 07-15-2006 11:47 AM

Oh God NO!!!!!

Please, the original is a classic in my book. Why must they mess with the originals!!!!!!!

I've only seen a few remakes that I actually liked!

islavistasweety 07-15-2006 09:44 PM

I'm sorry, but she is overweight, and I don't think she is setting a good example for little girls. She says all this stuff about how she's proud that she isn't super skinny, and that it's ok to be a big girl, but seriously, obesity isn't healthy.

It's ridiculous that they're remaking this movie. Hollywood has no originality these days.

SOPi_Jawbreaker 07-15-2006 09:58 PM

Stop remaking movies and tv shows from the 80's!!! Stop ruining the movies and tv shows of my childhood!!!

Oh please - she isn't obese! Yes, a little heavy, but a LOT of that is her ginormous breasts. I would venture to say she's about a 14. I think she's setting a great example for young girls. Much better than Mary-Kate Olson or that Amanda Bynes girl who is clearly starving herself now that she is off the "kids" shows.

As to the movie, I don't think Raven going into the Blues Bar and singing the blues is gonna be quite as funny.

*applause* I'm full figured myself. There are some girls, before Raven that are looking for full figured role models. Unfortuentley, they are dealt with Mary-Kate Olsen and Lindsay Lohan. It's sad to see Hollywood producers forcing many women to be twigs. The average woman is 5'4" and weighs 140 lbs and is a size 14. The average supermodel is 5'11" and weighs 117 lbs and wears a size 4. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who's underweight. The BMI for a supermodel is 16.3, which is underweight. As for the average woman for her height and weight, it is a 24, which is considered normal. The sad part is that almost half of first through third graders wish that they would be thinner and half of nine to ten year olds feel good about dieting. Marilyn Monroe was not overweight, she was 5'5" and weigh 135 lbs. Now if she was here today, her agents would tell her to lose weight.

Tiffani Thiessen was told by producers to lose weight. There is nothing wrong with her. She just have curves, that's all. There is nothing wrong with having curves. I would rather look like Tiffani Thiessen than a twig like Lindsay Lohan. They're both the same height. Now, who's body image is better: Tiffani or Lindsay? If I have curves, but not overweight and producers told me to lose weight, I would tell them to find someone else, becuase I would be happy with my curves.

Off my soapbox for that. As for the movie, I'm not so sure about that.

lilbay77 07-17-2006 07:33 AM

Wow, they wanted Tiffani Thiessen to lose weight?!?! That is ridiculous..

Yes Raven is slighty overwieght not OBESE, but like xo_kathy stated, the girl is top heavy. Sheesh, do you have to be emaciated to be a role model for young girls????

It's true about Tiffani, even the late Aaron Spelling (no disrespect) told her to lose weight. I guess he wanted for her to have a body like Tori.

Rudey 07-17-2006 01:23 PM

I hate this Raven chick. I want to slap her 2 in the ear. She used to be sweet when she was a little girl. Now that ADD that she has is not sweet at all. Yes, so I think 2 slaps to the ear would calm her down so she'd shutup for 5 minutes at least.

I know that the kiddie market is lucrative for her right now, but I wish she would become an adult and break out of the kiddie mold..

As a larger girl (who btw goes to the gym everyday and does 30 minutes of cardio and weights for 30) I see someone like Raven, who while not a great actress, as someone that girls can look up to. Yes, she is not tiny, but she is also not that big really. As some people stated she is prolly around a 14, maybe a 12 and that is AVERAGE.

It's about time that someone who was healthy looking was on a show that girls can look up to. I teach middle school and it would make some of you sick to hear these girls talk about themselves. I had a 11 year old who is a size 8 tell me she was too fat and needed to lose weight. I had a student 3 years ago who almost died (she alctually had to be sent to a treatment center because she needed medical care round the clock) because her seventh grade boyfriend told her she was fat, she became anexoric. I had a girl who wears a size medium cry after school one day because her cheerleading coach told her to lose 10 lbs or else she was off the squad. I almost lost two sisters in college to anexoria. I would much rather see a healthy (yes it is possible to be bigger and still healthy) bigger girl then someone who starves themself as a role model for my students anyday.

*off my soapbox now*

That being said people need to stop messing with movies from my childhood.

BobbyTheDon 07-18-2006 02:05 AM

Ummm...this Raven chick is fat. Fat fat fat.

FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT

OBESE OBESE OBESE OBESE.

I don't applaud her. She needs to lose weight. If you guys applaud her, then I applaud you for trying to compete with Kobayashi.

A Size 14 is large. Very large. She's a baby baluga

FAT FAT FAT. LARGE LARGE. Extra Large. SUPERSIZE ME.

She sucked in the Cosby Show.

Rudy is cuter, and I don't mean the GC'er.

And how do we know you aren't FAT or OBESE! Anyone can disguise themselves online..

but anyway, I vaguely remember Adventures in Babysitting so I wouldn't upset if Raven Simone took over that role. She is a beautiful young woman who applaud for being positive about her weight in the face of all those who suffer and complain and use drastic measures to lose it. She exudes confidence, high self-esteem, and to me, is a a woman that young girls (as mentioned before) can look up to.

I've seen her in other things and I don't think she is that bad of an actress. What are you all looking for that you would call her a bad actress...

Can she make the character seem like a real person, and not a cartoon character??

That would be my #1 thing to look for, and with Raven, I would have to say no.

I don't know if she just naturally has a strong personality, or if she has a public persona that she displays, because even when she's not "acting" she's completely over the top.

I've been around the theatre for years, and seen some incredible actors that just have "the gift", and they are just so natural. She is not one of those people.

I don't mind her extra pounds and high energy, but she is corny CORNAY! I can't stand to watch her more than one minute. Like someone else said, she would probably do better playing adult roles now, I think she's like 18.

I co-sign that Keisha Knight is way more attractive, even if Raven lost weight. What's weird I think it was the other way around when they were little.

f8nacn 07-18-2006 11:40 AM

They are two different people, two different directions in life, and besides Keisha Knight Pullam is older than Raven...If she's comfortable doing what she's doing, we can't knock her for that!...She has done more than just Disney and I didn't think her acting was poor.

tunatartare 07-18-2006 12:53 PM

I don't think this will be good, and I haven't even seen the original. I don't think she's a good actress. xoheatherxo saw her live on TRL with two of her chapter sisters and she said that Raven's just really obnoxious and annoying.

Those are some sad examples. They make me wanna break my heart. People are going to have to get used to large women. I'm so glad that Seventeen is featuring full figured models, but the truth is that there is one or two of them per issue. Yes, there are clothes for plus sizes, but not a lot. I just wish that there was a magazine for young plus sized women. BTW, I applaud Mo'Nique for putting together a beauty pagent for full figured women. It proves to people that you can be beautiful, no matter what size you wear. Any girl that is full figured and is in middle/high school should watch it and realize that there are beautiful large girls out there. It's just that Hollywood is replacing them with twigs and toothpicks.

There was one for awhile. I think it was Mode or something like that, but it went under.

I don't see the reason for the eye rolling. Acting can be subjective, and if people don't think she's a good actress, I don't see the big deal.

adpiucf 07-18-2006 02:53 PM

I think she comes off as incredibly fake in interviews. I don't know the girl. It's just a sense I get from watching her.

And as for her acting-- those goofy twins on 7th Heaven are more talented. She is not a good actress. No matter what I have seen her in, I feel like she's reciting lines. Which is what actors do. But with the good ones, you get swept up in the story line. With Raven, I feel like I'm watching a bad monologue during Thespian try-outs.

Drolefille 07-18-2006 03:01 PM

It doesn't help that "That's so Raven" is one of THE stupidest shows on the Disney channel.

Besides the regular plot: I see something... I've got to keep it from happening.. oops i made it happen after all

The acting is annoying all around.. from Raven to her little brother to her friend...

Sorry, got sidetracked, but Raven doesn't impress me either.

Is it just me, or does the girl who plays Chelsea (the friend) look about 27 instead of 16 like she's supposed to be??

I think a lot of the live-action kids shows are just filled with over-acting and repetitive goofy plots. They characters are more like ridiculous caricatures than believable, 3-dimensional characters. I've never sat down to watch any of the Disney channel shows, but just flipping through the channels and stopping on a Disney channel show and watching 15 seconds of it was already irritating enough. If I had to sit through a half-hour of that, I would have to shoot myself. But then again, if I was 9-years old, I probably would be watching stuff like that.

I've got to disagree on this one. My step-daughter is 10 and loves Raven. I have watched my fair share of various Disney shows and "That's so Raven" actually has me laughing sometimes - because it's so goofy. I think they know they are being over the top and they go with it.

Some of the others - The Suite Life, Phil of the Future, Hannah Montanta - those kids overact to no end and I don't think they realize it. Much worse, IMO!

ETA: The best kid actor on Disney shows was the kid who played Gordo on Lizzy Maguire!

f8nacn 07-18-2006 03:34 PM

Hence the Disney Channel is a children's/pre-teen channel with some teenage story plots...they aren't marketing their programming towards young adults or adults who wouldn't understand!....

That's because he was like 20 years old.

Drolefille 07-18-2006 03:44 PM

Yeah but the overacting is just DUMB and it's clearly written that way.

I agree about Suite Life, etc... Whatever happened to good old TV.. Family Matters, Full House, Cosby, smurfs, Get Smart on Nick at Night...

Guess you have a point there...my nephew (who lives with me) loves Barney so right now I have to miss programs so that he can watch the same Barney over and over again before getting bored and moving on to something else. It's funny because as soon as he gets up and starts playing w/ something else, I'll change the channel to see if he is still watching it...well he is a smart little thing because he'll turn around and start whining because I changed the channel...then proceed to what he was doing. Grand manipulation at 22 months!

Yeah they're good at that.

I have 3 younger siblings so I hit pretty much every kid "trend" that came along...

Barney was the worst

Good call, if I never see Baby Bop again in my life I'll be happy.

I actually liked Thomas though.

Disney shows seem lacking since the days of the Gummi Bears...
