Other than Convention
Most groups have their Convention every two year, but does any other group have workshop or small conferences on the off years?
AXiD has the Workout(Help with Recruitment) and the TLC(The Leadership Conference) during the years we do not have convention. |
We have a leadership conference in the off years. Its nearly as terrible as convention.
We used to have what was called Leadership training School... and it ended up becoming *pretty* much like convention... so this year we started Regional Leadership Conferences where the E boards from each region stay closer to home and attend internationaly standardized leadership training with the ohther chapters in the region.
Although not mandated, Alpha Phi Alpha typically has some sort of special convention in the off years.
I believe in 2002 it was an economic summit in Vegas? (wasn't a member yet....in 03 it was a General Convention in Detroit.....04 was a Constitutional Convention in Philly....05 was a General Convention in Houston...and this year it's the Centennial Convention. My mind has been blanking ALL DAY on where the next general convention will be. |
Delta holds Regional Conferences during the years that National Convention is not held. This info is on our official website.
ASA has the Emma Coleman Frost Leadership Development program in off years.
Delta Tau Delta has five regional conferences -- one per division. They are very much like a mini-Karnea (our international conference held every two years). In addition, there are several leadership conferences during the summer months.
Phi Mu has regional Leadership Conferences every year. They're a lot of fun!
Kappa Sig has leadership conferences in the off years.
Phi Kappa Psi has Woodrow Wilson Leadership School and District Council Meetings in the off years of convention. Along with that every year we have President's Leadership Academy in the winter and Fraternity Educator's Leadership Academy in the spring
We have convention ever three years. We have leadership conferences off years (both national and regional) and of course we have smaller leadership retreats at our EO.
SLG has Sisterhood Retreat in our off years, and has District Retreats every year in the spring.
We have regional conferences called "The Leadership Conference" (TLC) on off-Convention years. Historically, we did them by Province, then it was national, now it's by Area, of which we have 4. They are more focused on workshops and less on the pomp and circustance of our Convention.
ZTA has Leadership Conferences on non-convention years - not NEARLY as fun as convention - leadership conf is all work!!
Every two years= Conventions, summer
Every two years= school of fraternity practices Every year=mid year leadership conferce Ever year= Derainian's president's meeting. |
Kappa Alpha Theta has District Leadership Conferences (DLCs) every year in the winter - the new exec board from each college chapter attends in her district (we have 9 districts) for general and job-specific leadership training. Also, in non-Convention years, we have Officers' Conference for the "Official Family" - district and international officers.
We've also tried Alumnae Roadshows in non-Convention years in the recent past for alumnae chapters. I'm not sure what the current plan is with those. |

We have Officer Academy (OA) or Regional Leadership Workshop (RLW) in off years.
Zeta Phi Beta has regional and state meetings every year. Except for the Southern region. As well as various leadership conferences.
Phi Sigma Kappa has General Convention every two years with Al Shonk Leadership School rolled into it. During the off years we hold just LS. Every winter there are regional conlaves held. Two years ago we had a President and Treasurer Conclave in Indy instead of the regional conclaves. But, we have since returned to the regional format.
Tri Sigma has Dunham Leadership Institute in the years that we don't have convention. There are also State Days in the off years.
Every odd year we had a national conclave, but we didn't last year. instead, it was a "Strategic Leadership Conference".
Alpha Delta Pi has VLS or Leadership Seminar on the years in between our biennial Convention.
AOII has Leadership Institute in Franklin, TN every even numbered year and International Convention every odd numbered year (next year Scottsdale!). LI is basically three days of workshops, networking, and very little sleep. Convention is more the business side of things (and we have Ritual at Convention and not LI).
Kappa Kappa Gamma has Province Meetings in the years between Conventions. They're kind of like a mini-Convention where there are business meetings, breakout groups and ritual but on a smaller, local level. It's a nice way to get to know the Fraternity volunteers and chapters just in your province.
