Hi lovelysha, welcome to GC. There is no need to post the same thing three times, as people read most of the forums. Latino Greeks has a listing of all the Latino fraternities and sororities with their websites and pictures. You could probably find out on there.

Oh I am so sorry KLP, I thought that it wouldn't have gotten read if it was in the wrong forum. :(

Yea common mistake by newbies. I thought it might have been LSU because the guy is wearing a light blue shirt, but I just checked and it's not.

Sign, I didnt know We had a sign until it was explained to me 39 years after Initiation!

First time I saw it I am going woe is me, gang sig:eek: n!

It is not uncommon for GLOs to have a secret Hand Sign or hand clasp to reconize fellow members.:)

That means All GLOs.

Thanks but I'm not sure if I follow. So you think that may be a chapter specific sign or something?

Tom,

I figure our sign out even before I went thought Initiation but it had more meaning once I went thought Initiation.

zchi2 07-11-2006 09:36 AM

Did you ever find out what org has that sign? I've never seen it before. But I think I've seen a sorority with it.

No I still haven't found out...I am still searching for it! I tried comparing it to pictures most Latino frats but I didn't see anyone making this sign. I'm thinking it might be a secret sign that just these people that pledged together use? Or its chapter specific? Don't know.

zchi2 07-11-2006 12:26 PM

Are you sure it's a latino fraternity?

Well I know its A frat and those guys were all Latino...but I am in an African American sorority and do not recognize that as being from an African American frat. Don't think it would be from a white frat...but I guess you never know?

Say it with me now: FRATERNITY

See, that's not so hard is it??

lovelysha 07-13-2006 11:21 AM

I didn't think it was that big of a deal. We just call them Frats, like most other people.

Anyone have any clues about this sign?

Here on GC, it IS a big deal. See This Thread among hundreds of others. Who are "most other people"???

lovelysha 07-13-2006 12:00 PM

I don't see why you are getting so high strung about this. Its not that serious, out here we tend to call them Frats during casual conversation, if you want them called Fraternities then ok. I'm new to the boards I didn't have time to read every guideline, I apologize if I broke some rule or something.

AGDem 07-13-2006 08:20 PM

You didn't break a rule or anything, it's just that calling fraternities "frats" touches a nerve with a lot of people. Many negative connotations have come to be associated with the word, and therefore most people don't want to be associated with it.

Senusret I 07-13-2006 08:49 PM

You know what? I am really tired of this.

There comes a point where people have to let things go.

FRAT FRAT FRAT FRAT FRAT.

If YOU don't identify with the term, then don't respond to it.

Sistergirl already said she's in a black sorority. Have we not already established time and time again that the term FRAT is not a cuss word among people of color?

GROW UP. Get over it. It's not that serious -- the issue is relative to your campuses and not even universal on GreekChat.

nolatke 07-13-2006 09:22 PM

Frat fratty frat frat frat.

bows&toes 07-13-2006 09:24 PM

looks like some kinda east sida loco gang sign to me  keep it classy

Are you sure it's a fraternity and not a gang? I looked up Latino fraternities too and couldn't find the sign. In what context did you see the hand sign?

lovelysha 07-14-2006 10:27 AM

Nope, highly highly doubt its a gang sign...pretty sure those guys are of greek affiliation. And I don't think gang members go to college or wear button up shirts and ties and attend professional after-work events lol!! My brother said the only Latin gangs out here of any significance is the Latin Kings and one or two others, and thats not their sign. And I even I know thats not a blood or crip sign lol. :D

Umm, no, it's probably not a gang then, LOL. I actually looked them up too and couldn't find it. I found similar, but I don't think they're ready to get in their suits and ties and go to a dinner affair, lol.

lovelysha 07-14-2006 12:45 PM

Haha...hey mulattogyrl, are you from PA? I went to Penn. :D

No need to apologize. Keep calling them "frats" since you were probably referencing the frats that don't mind being called frats.

And even many multicultural, Asian, and Latino fraternity and sorority people.

I am still trying to figure out whose handsign that is.

L.O.C.K. 07-15-2006 12:11 PM

This may be a stupid question...

Are we sure it's not someone trying to do the handsign but not having the physical dexterity to do it? :D

L.O.C.K. 07-15-2006 12:14 PM

Ooo!!

Maybe this organization?

That's a really ignorant comment.

Back to the topic: It looks like it could be a sign in reverse. Let me think about this one a little bit more.

zchi2 07-18-2006 08:42 AM

It might be Tau Phi Sigma. It's a multicultural fraternity but has a lot of latinos.

Agree with the ignorant comment.

But thanks for your help, is doing signs in reverse a common thing amongst fraternities?

Zchi and L.O.C.K., I looked at the hand signs of those organizations and they look similar but not an exact match. Zchi, Tau Phi Sigma seems to be a midwest organization, these guys are from out here in the New York/New Jersey area...doesnt mean they can't be a part of it though. :D

I was thinking that maybe the picture is somehow reversed. I've seen that happen lately especially if a person is using a camera phone. Or, it could be a new member who hasn't yet...been educated on proper use of his hand signal. I've seen that happen too, over the years.

dxp_tiktok 07-20-2006 05:16 PM

It looks like a one-handed version of my sorority's (Delta Xi Phi Multicultural Sorority) handsign.

This picture shows the one-hand & two-hand.

I dunno if you ever found out, but it looks like a Phi Iota Alpha sign...

yeah, it does look different... i dunno it could be any number of orgs. I mean, there are only so many things you can do with your hands, and with more and more orgs that have hand signs, they're definitely going to overlap.
