KitKat's Fall Recruitment story

Ok so I know it's pretty early to be starting this thread considering my rush will not be until September but I've been looking at this board for the past few weeks and I couldn't help making a thread of my own. Today I emailed the advisor of my school to ask to be mailed pamphlets and things like that about recruitment so I decided it would be a good time to start this. I am so extremly excited and can't wait for the fall so I can start my greek experience.

mkgirl 06-27-2006 11:00 PM

Tell us a little about where you'll be rushing.....big school, small school, and how many chapters will you be looking at?

greekchic87 06-27-2006 11:12 PM

I'm sorry lol I knew there was something I was leaving out lol. Well my school is in the New England area( I don't want to give to much away until after recruitment). My school is big atleast, in my opinion, it's actually going to be my first year there, im a transfer and will be a sophomore. There are 7 sororities at my school. I'm going to name them after zodiac signs because that's the first thing i thought of lol.
So the sororities at my school are:
Aquarius
Libra
Capricorn
Pisces
Virgo
Scorpio
Gemini

KitKatMac 06-27-2006 11:15 PM

And actually this is my user name (hence KitKat's recruitment lol) and I didn't realize my friends name was still logged into my computer. I don't want to start another thread because it will just take up space so I'm going to use this name(mine) from now on. Sorry for all this :o :o

Buttonz 06-28-2006 12:06 AM

:) A Northeast rush thread!! Nice to see! Good luck!

Duchovnysfan 06-28-2006 04:03 AM

ooh rush threads! Can't wait to hear about your experience :) Good luck!
PS: love the zodiac signs ;)

DominoTheta 07-03-2006 03:19 AM

Well I'm exited already. Recruitment is so much fun. Here's an early good luck, because I'm as exited as all the PNMs out there!

ASUADPi 07-04-2006 11:30 AM

Good Luck with recruitment!

I'm going with Pisces, since that is what my sign is. LOL.

epchick 07-04-2006 10:36 PM

Geminis all the way baby!!! Wooohoo. lol. :D

KitKatMac 07-18-2006 06:27 PM

So I figured I might as well make a quick update since its been awhile. I had my transfer orientation this week but unfortunatley there were no meeting about greek life while I was there.
My cousin was a member of one of the sororities on my campus so she wrote me a rec and I'm really happy about that, I just read it the other day. That is the only sorority i will have a rec for because at the school I will be attending they are not required and not having them does not hurt your chances. I also emailed the director of greek life so that I will be sent recruitment information in the mail. I think that is all the recruitment news i have for now.

Drolefille 07-18-2006 11:44 PM

Yay for the update! Have fun!

When does school start? And recruitment? (if you know)

Oh wait.. i don't know if you should tell us...

Never mind.. I'm sure you're counting down though

Go Capricorn (I'm a january baby)

KitKatMac 07-19-2006 11:08 AM

Classes start on September 6th and recruitment is in mid september, i think the 15th. It will be obvious what days my recruitment is once I start posting my day to day recruitment updates so I don't mind saying when the dates are.

Jimmy Choo 07-19-2006 11:35 AM

Cheering for Aquarius here!!! (also cheering for my own sign :) )
Good luck to you!

KitKatMac 07-21-2006 11:28 AM

Well I actually have another update to make. This week I went to a barbecue and my cousin, who was a member of a sorority at the school i'll be rushing at, was there. She told me what she knows about the different sororities, what to say at different houses, what to wear, what it will be like and things like that so it really helped. I will also be going to visit her in august and she is going to do a type of mock rush party type thing with me so I can practice things to say and stuff like that when I go through recruitment. Hearing everything she said made me even more excited and I can't wait for it to be time for recruitment.

Drolefille 07-21-2006 11:40 AM

Awesome! I'm sure your cousin's slightly biased but gave you good advice all around nonetheless! (I know I can't help but say things like "They're all great chapters... but I think mine's the best!) Do be sure to make judgements based off your own observations as well as what she told you!

But to continue the cheering theme in the AI threads...
RAH RAH
SIS BOOM BAH
GOOooooooooooo KITKAT!

and

Give her a break
Give her a break
Give her a break because she's
Kit Kat mac

Ok I'm a dork and done now :)

Wow. It's great that you have such a helpful and supportive cousin. Good luck to you! Since my sign isn't listed, I'm going with Gemini.

Have a fabulous time!

Ah, ok, I was afraid that the one(s) without a house weren't gonna be seen or something like that

thetygerlily 09-13-2006 04:04 PM

I didn't see anyone rooting for Libra yet, which is my sign- so go Libra!

Day 1 is just a couple of days away... good luck! And remember to be yourself, no matter what your cousin told you. It sounds like she was really helpful, even doing a mock recruitment- just try to keep an open mind about them all, as hard as that may be :-) Have fun!!

JenMarie 09-13-2006 09:21 PM

Hey I had a cousin give me a rundown as well. They are helpful to have.

I'm rooting for Leo and good luck to you.

LegallyBrunette 09-15-2006 02:33 PM

Good luck KitKat! I also rushed as a transfer student so I'm definitely pulling for you :)

Being from New England originally, I am really interested to find out what school you're at too when recruitment is over (although I do have a guess)!

KitKatMac 09-15-2006 10:41 PM

Hey. Well today was our recruitment kick off. Tomorrow starts official recruitment. This is a new thing this year to try and ease people into recruitment but to be honest I didn't love it. We watched a slide show which was nice, and then we broke up into our recruitment groups. The 7 sorority memebers sat in the middle of our circle and we sat around them while we made name tags and talked. I think the reason I didn't really like it was because the sorority members were supposed to try to rotate in the circle and my group never did so I ended up talking to the one member from the group "libra" for the whole time and I didn't seem to click with her to much. But I have very high hopes for tomorrow and like I said this was a new thing so all the kinks haven't been worked out yet. Also, if anyone would like to guess which school I'm at they are more than welcome or they can pm me about it or whatever. Tomorrow we start at 10:15 and were going to be going to all 7 houses so I'm really excited. I'll update you guys afterwards.

Buttonz 09-15-2006 11:31 PM

Good luck and have fun! I have no idea where your at, but can't wait to find out :)

You don't have my sign as one of your code names so I'm gonna have to say I'm rooting for Pisces......

lillady85 09-16-2006 03:02 PM

Virgo!

I'm a transfer too so I'm crossing my fingers for you. :)

NinjaPoodle 09-16-2006 04:50 PM

Go Scorpio! It's your birthday!:p Good Luck to you!:o

KitKatMac 09-16-2006 06:24 PM

Well today was my first official day of recruitment. The first house I went to was....
Gemini- I was really excited when I got to this house since it was the first house of the day. It was nice and I liked that they had us in two rooms, we spent half the time in one room doing the philanthropy project and the other half of the time looking at there pillows and paddles and stuff like that. I'm not sure I like how they do there mentoring-ish program because they do bigs and littles but then another thing to(I can't really say what without giving it away) and I feel like I'd rather have one central person than two different ones.
The next house was....
Pisces- This house is the only local sorority on campus. The girl I talked to there was very friendly, but it was kind of noisy and I did not like that they didn't switch people at all so I only got to talk to one person. This is also one of the smaller groups and I think I may be looking for something a little bigger.
Next up was...
Capricorn- This house was just renovated from what I've heard and it looked really pretty. When we got in we had to sign the guest book at the door so it took us a little while to actually get in, at some houses they had someone walk around with it which I think worked a little better. They also asked a unique question in the guestbook which I liked. I spoke to a few different people and they seemed pretty friendly. The room was really crowded though so at times it was hard to hear what people were saying. I'm not sure if this is definitley the place for me but I really liked there vibe and enthusiasm.
The 4th house of the day was...
Libra-We actually took a bus to this house because its pretty far away from the others. The house was really spacious and had a comfortable feel to it. Everyone there seemed to really like there sorority and one of them complemented the seashell I was making on my bookmark even though it just looked like a giant paint blob lol. At the end of this house, however time kind of seemed to be dragging on but it was also the last house before lunch so this could have been why.
We took a lunch break and then we went to...
Aquarius- This house also had a very comfortable setting. I felt really at ease with all of the different people I talked to and we never ran out of things to discuss. I really liked peoples answers when I asked them why they chose their sorority and one girl looked like she was almost gunna cry talking about her rush experience and chosing to become an aquarius. They seemed like such a great group of girls and at the moment I'd have to say that this house is my top choice.
We then walked to....
Virgo- This is the only sorority without a house so we met them in a conference room. It was kind of difficult because there was less space so everything seemed alot louder. Both girls I talked to seemed nice but I didn't really feel much of a connection. Also I was really hoping to join a sorority with a house. The group was really great but I don't see myself as being a part of it.
The last house of the day was...
Scorpio- This house was also very pretty looking. I liked talking to the girls there but at some points it seemed like we were running out of things to say. I also think this house was a little difficult just because it was the last house of the day. I'm not really sure how I feel about this house quite yet.

Sorry I wrote so much but this is kind of me trying to get my thoughts together on the whole thing. Tomorrow between 9 and 11 we go in to find out who asked us back and if its more than 5 houses then we narrow it down to 5 and then at 12:15 we meet to start house tours. O also from reading some posts here I'm surprised to say we were able to bring our purses in with us, all the girls rushing were wearing jeans and actually some were more casual and some of the houses were all dressed identically. Just some things I noticed throughout the day lol. I'm already very excited for tomorrow.

ADPi Conniebama 09-16-2006 07:19 PM

THANK YOU for writing so much . . . speaking for the addicts we love to hear all of the details.

HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!

SmartBlondeGPhB 09-16-2006 07:30 PM

Well, I'm going for scorpio even though you weren't so sure about it because it's my sign.....:D

Good luck and have fun!

violetpretty 09-17-2006 12:13 AM

I am glad to hear that your first day of recruitment went so well!

Don't discount Gemini because of their mentoring program. Pretty much every chapter at my school has a "bid day buddy" of some sort who is an initial mentor before you get your big. At Sig Kap, we call them heart sisters; Theta has kite sisters; AOPi has panda pals; Zeta has strawberry sisters, etc. This way, you have someone to connect with right away (often someone you met during recruitment), and then you choose your big (and she chooses you) later into your new member period. Sometimes your heart sister can be your big as well. We also do senior shadows, which is a nice way to get the seniors involved and makes them less intimidating. Having several mentor figures makes the chapter more unified and less cliquey because you bond with more sisters. Your big will still be the central figure during your new member period and for the rest of your sorority experience. My Sigma Kappa family is extremely close, testament of the big-little program.

I am really excited to hear about the rest of recruitment for you! Good luck tomorrow!
