Build A Bear

Is anyone else crazy about them?

I have the:

Frog
Elephant
Koala Bear
Light Brown Bear
Velvet Puppy
Floppy Puppy
Nikki Bear II
Giraffe

And I can't get enough. I don't really buy the clothes for them though I do have the Yankee shirt and the full Yankee uniform.

AlphaFrog 06-14-2006 10:31 AM

I have one. I didn't know they finally made a frog, or I would have had one by now!:)

tunatartare 06-14-2006 10:35 AM

I have one. When they get Hello Kitty, I'm going to have to get that one. Last year they came out with a lamb, I was going to get it because that's the KLP mascot, but her legs looked really funny and just weird. I'm waiting for them to get a duck!!!!

Rudey 06-14-2006 10:47 AM

One day, when you grow up, what will you do with all these ridiculous stuffed animals?

I haven't ever understood the fun of Build A Bear. It's kind of like fondue. Why should I pay you a lot of money so I can stuff my own bear/cook my own food?

one of my friends who just crossed SIA got one of her big's a Build-a-Bear with a lettered shirt. it was cute, and i kinda want one for myself.

then again, this is case in point of how big business makes crazy money on super-specializing for their target market. bringing novelty to anything and convincing people that its logical to put down $$ on said product becuase of the vast amount of CHOICE. (ie Jamba juice, Cold Stone, dunkin donuts when it debuted, etc)

hell, this is why buffets and mix-your-own-salad bars, among other businesses, are successful. now customized teddy bears? this is why people get irate when they have lack of choice. i throw a FIT when i cant get liquid sugar in my iced coffee @ dunkin donuts (i know, assinine, right?)

maybe we will get a specialty chain fondue shop and get charged overpriced $$ for fruit and bread on a stick.

You have more than one big in SIA? I thought you only had one. A couple of my friends are SIA's and I thought they each had one big and one little.

Jill1228 06-14-2006 12:14 PM

I wanna do a Build a Bear so bad! They are finally putting a shop in my local mall

PhoenixAzul 06-14-2006 12:17 PM

For a while they had a flamingo!!! And one of my TD family tree traditions is flamingo stuff! I wanted to get one so bad but just didn't have the cash. However, I went NUTS at Kohl's this weekend buying a flamingo planter for my apartment, and a flamingo margarita glass for a future little (combines two traditions!) .

According to their website, this coming weekend is "Hello Kitty" weekend.
Plus you get a free Hello Kitty Coin purse when you purchase Hello Kitty.

Drolefille 06-14-2006 02:57 PM

Do they have a giant stuffed heart? ... or a dove?.... or maybe a snake... I could do a snake.

It's hard finding non-typical stuffed animals

It could be worse. Your mascot could be like a mongoose or something.

I have actually seen anteater stuffed animals. It was at the zoo, but it still counts. What sorority would that be for?? Alpha Nu Tau??

tunatartare 06-14-2006 03:28 PM

I was actually thinking Alpha Nu Theta, just to make the letters look more Greek, but Alpha Nu Tau works just as well.

Anth? Hee... they have lisps too.

ZTAMich 06-14-2006 04:16 PM

All the women in my family have one kind of bear. I have a chubby cubby which they no longer make :( I love the 5th Ave store here in NYC! They have every item you could possibly want for your BAB friend! I made a bear there this winter, what an insane wait!!

Buttonz 06-14-2006 04:22 PM

I remember him, he was so cute!

I haven't been to the5th Ave store yet, but I will be tomorrow with Daisy/ Pickedup a bear w/a Boston Bruins uniform for one of my sororotiy sisters for her birthday. They only carry the Bruins uniform up here in RI during hockey season, or I'd make it tonight for her.

Why do I have a feeling we're gonna end up spending like an hour in that store?

Buttonz 06-14-2006 04:32 PM

That's all? :D

Umm yea, I was trying to stay optimistic about it. Guess that's not gonna happen. We do have to be out of there quickly enough to still get sushi though!

Cardinal026 06-14-2006 05:08 PM

My pledge class had a sleepover when we were new members, and the day of the sleepover we all went to Build A Bear to make stuffed animals, and at the sleepover that night we puffy painted lettered t-shirts for them. It was a great retreat and opportunity for us to get to know each other, and I still have the super cute bear to show from it! I think I'm going to make one for my nephew's birthday, it seems like something he'll get a kick out of, too.

Drolefille 06-14-2006 05:15 PM

Buttonz... have you always been Sigma ? Tau or is that just recently?

One of the traditions in my chapter is that for Big/Little Discovery, the Big presents their new Little with a Build-a-Bear. Everybody LOVES it.:)
