GC Pet Peeves

I already know what AlphaFrog is going to say for this one. But what are your biggest pet peeves when it comes to GC. Mine is when girls (or guys) refer to their boyfriend/husband/partner/lover/sugar daddy/baby daddy/etc. as Mr. _______ (GC username). Especially if your username has the word girl in it somewhere. Nothing sounds manlier than saying that you're dating "Mr.HotPinkGirley."

Dionysus 06-13-2006 02:10 PM

Dionysus rushes to post in this thread before it gets locked or deleted.

tunatartare 06-13-2006 02:21 PM

You really think it's gonna get locked that quickly?

Dionysus 06-13-2006 02:22 PM

I guess not, we're the only people posting.

Oh man, I need to think of some.

:p

AlphaFrog 06-13-2006 02:23 PM

I wonder if locking/deleting threads is any different??

I'ma not even gonna get started on my pet peeves.

What? Come on....
My pet peeve is when people avoid saying their pet peeves :D

That and people who can't type.

squirrely girl 06-13-2006 02:54 PM

my pet peeve is when people can't stay on topic for more than 20 posts in a thread...

Yeah that's a shame.

Hey, has anyone gone ice skating lately?

/don't hurt me

tunatartare 06-13-2006 03:00 PM

No I'm waiting till it gets closer to 95 before I go ice skating.

*Poor grammar/spelling/punctuation.
*As always, people "blowing sunshine" up PNMs butts (although it doesn't happen as much as it used to).
*People who share too much information.

I like it when people share TMI. I like to laugh at their lack of discretion! I'm nosy as hell too! Me likes reading about peoples crazy sex lives the most.

docetboy 06-13-2006 05:27 PM

When people act like what happens on GC actually matters. Come on folks, it's a message board!!!

Amen!

My GC Pet Peeve: When a PNM starts a Recruitment Thread and you have to wade through 100 "Good luck!" posts. I just want to read her story!

Not necessarily a pet peeve, but just something that I don't understand is why girls start recruitment threads in like April or May when recruitment itself isn't actually until August or September.

KSig RC 06-13-2006 05:48 PM

-Absurdly unattractive, fat or unsuccessful people who obsess over the lives and perceived inadequacies of celebrities . . . ignoring both the irony of the situation, and the indictment of their own lives.

-Those who choose to share an exorbitant amount of information with somewhat random people. Bonus points for getting pissed when people mock things you've shared, or calling other people out for their over-sharing. Nobody fucking cares.

docetboy 06-13-2006 05:53 PM

Amen, Brother.

Yeah, that does get annoying....

KSigkid 06-13-2006 09:03 PM

Nitpicking on spelling. I'm a journalism major and an accomplished writer, and I don't even care. Also, some of the people doing the nitpicking have less than perfect grammar themselves (ending sentences with prepositions, incomplete sentences, etc.)

KSigRC's work as well. If you don't want to know the truth, don't ask the question.

Stef the Pef 06-14-2006 12:51 AM

Greek posters.

Like, actual Greeks from Greece.

I don't know what they're talking about!

My GC Pet Peeve...

When the rudest posts come from the Moderators.

ADPiShannan 06-14-2006 11:32 AM

When people complain all the time about what others say or think but really they should look at themselves and realize they are the problem because they are always complaining.

Up yours you old bat. :p ;)

Sorry, that was too easy. :D

And I hate to break it to y'all but a lot of these are INTERNET pet peeves.

Agree! The mods should be some of the nicer posters...but it doesn't always happen like that....

AlphaFrog 06-14-2006 01:49 PM

My pet peeve is when certain people try to be esoteric when they call people out.

/Irony of the statement fully intended.

If you are referring to me...I wasn't specifically calling you out, I was saying that ANYONE who criticizes spelling or grammar on the site should have perfect grammar themselves.

No, it really wasn't you. I understand what you're saying. You have to admit though, there's a difference between typing like a normal college educated human being who occasionally makes typos aNd tYpInG LiKe An ElEvEn YeAr OlD oN aN iM tO hEr BfF tAhT lIvEs ThReE sTaTeS aWaY, AnD hvAe NeVeR mEt IrL, bUt i SwEaR sHe'S sTilL dA bOmB. I realize I'm exaggerating, but there are some posters who's posts are difficult to read due to grammar/capitalization/spelling/paragraphs.

I know, at times it can get ridiculous, but I also see some really nitpicky edits being made. I do copy editing as part of my job, so I understand the urge, but then those same people who are doing the editing use incorrect grammar and spelling in their posts. Re-reading some of my posts, I tend to have run-on sentences, long paragraphs, end with prepositions, etc., so I generally don't criticize other's grammar (unless it's something really awful, like your example).

It bothers me in the same way as this scenario that I've also seen on the board: Someone criticises a poster for continually posting about a topic, but then the person who is doing the criticizing goes on to post 1000 posts about their job/academic program.

Maybe it's just me though; I realize these may be problems on all message boards, but this is really the only one I frequent.

AlphaFrog 06-14-2006 02:33 PM

So, basically, hypocrites are your pet peeve. I can go with that.

BTW...I meant Rudey constantly harping on the same thing over and over trying to act like the person doesn't know he's talking about them. It gets annoying reading it all the time.

Buttonz 06-14-2006 05:31 PM

When people pretend to eat when there's drama. "Oh, let me get the chicken wings!" LUSERS.

NutBrnHair 06-14-2006 06:00 PM

People who respond to threads even when their answer doesn't apply.

Thread Example:

List the countries you've visited in Europe.

Response Example:

Well, I've never been to Europe, but...I've been to:

Nebraska
Arkansas
Las Vegas
Six Flags Over Texas
Cancun

Haha... that bothers me, but what REALLY bugs me is when people say that they just spit coffee ALL over their computer screen because someone's post was that funny. Yeah, I'm sure that really happened.

For some odd reason, this list cracked me up. :D

On a related note, my GC pet peeve is Rudey. Why does he always talk about dead babies? It's creepy.

I know it grosses me out too. What if it was dead babies of illegal aliens from guadalajara or something? Would that be even more gnarly?

-Rudey

I think I saw one of them on the side of the road today on the way to work. They should know better than to trifle with the 10.

Off topic (sorry, I know that's a pet peeve)...
The other night at dinner my husband had just taken a big sip of red wine and something funny got said on TV and he litterally spit it all over the table. It shot across the table, into my purse, one the chairs - everywhere! I've never seen it this bad outside of a sitcom/movie!
