I'm rooting for England. Nothing better than getting drunk at 8am watching a futball match at a bar with a bunch of rowdy englishmen. I haven't done it yet, but want to do it during atleast one match this Cup.

Where do you plan on finding rowdy Englishmen in Texas?

Very pathetic play by the US. I expected the game to be evenly played with the US winning 1-0. Did not expect the blowout.

Today's game to watch, Switzerland (go!) vs. French.

They did look pretty pathetic. Trinidad & Tobago looked better.

That game was a bummer after all of the hype that this team got.

Too bad the Communists, err, Croatia lost today against Brazilia.

I wish Canada had a team that could compete. The one and only time we made an appearance at the World Cup was 20 years ago. It sucks not being able to join in on the world's biggest sporting event. <Jumping on England's bandwagon>.

I was expecting the USA to lose 1-0, but they didn't even show up. This team had a golden opportunity to pick up the casual fan in this country and they blew it. I think they can beat Ghana and will hopefully tie Italy, but I don't see them advancing to the next round, and if so, they'll lose in the Round of 16.

I'm loving the Netherlands and their one touch play, although it only resulted in one goal. I wish Robben didn't play for Chelsea or I'd like him more.

I still think England needs to step their game up if they're going to advance far into the tournament.

No offense, but U.S. ain't ready this season. But I still want to see them play on saturday.

I agree, there was too much hype surrounded around this team, it's like that they forgot that this is PROJECT 2010....and that we're not expected to do well this time around.

My three teams are The USA, England and Holland, and the latter two are doing well (and have advanced to the next round) but could and SHOULD be playing MUCH better than that.

If the United States defeats Ghana, and Italia defeats the Czech Republic, the United States will advance to Round 2.

I'm seriously hitting myself for missing the US v. ITA game for a seminar. I heard what a crazy game it was. I still have it on my DVR. I have to see it for myself.

I'd pick Ghana over the U.S. (Call me biased or what have you, but I really wanted a good African team to make it this year)..and I sure as hell ain't picking U.S. over Italy.

Italy looked like a bunch of floppers yesterday. Everytime something was close to being a fould their players would dive making it look much worse than what it was.

Seriously.....what is the deal with these soccer athletes. You have football players in the US that play for 3 hours a night and beat the shit out of each other with injuries few and far between and then you watch a soccer game and a guy gets tripped and is carted off the field in a stretcher. You would think his leg got cut off. One of the reasons I don't like soccer.

How do you people root against your own country? Ridiculous.

An addendum to my original reply: while it sucks that Canada isn't participating in the World Cup, it is quite a site to see in Vancouver right now. An event like the World Cup brings out all the multicultural colours of the city. There are people with South Korean car flags, and one guy decorated all his apartment windows in the Dutch orange and blue. There are tonnes of people walking around with Portgual and England jerseys. And you knew when the Germans won the other day with the 30 minutes of honking horns...

And there are a few Oilers car flags appearing too... but that's a different story.

Are you aware of the United State's standings on the world futball stage, and our historic world cup record, especially when the games are played in Europe?

Macallan25, my country (or countries to be more precise) are not competing :-) I'd love to support the U.S. but they just don't have it this year. But at this stage, you just never know..

I haven't had the chance to watch any of the games. Is Italy still in it? How are they doing?

I always cheer for Italy when it comes to world sports. It's my heritage and I was raised with an Italian soccer fanatic family. We used to have a crowd of people over our house all the time watching. (when the big backyard satellites were popular and there was no RAI in our area)

bcdphie-- Ever been in Bensonhurst Brooklyn during the World Cup? I remember one year my aunt sent us a picture of the Italian flag she made that covered like her whole building. That same year we made a flag that covered our whole garage. I guess in that neighborhood in Brooklyn it was a HUGE celebration. I think it was 1990 when Italy won.

Well, bear in mind that football players have tons of pads on. Soccer players have shin guards and that's it. A lot of guys don't even wear cups. And shin guards don't help much when someone slides and spikes your ankle.

We have a bunch of Ecuadorians and Portugese where I live. Lots of flags and jerseys on display. :)

Pads still don't mask players getting blindsided while catching a pass over the middle, etc. I never came close to getting hurt while playing soccer in school. The again, if players don't wear cups, then they are pretty dumb:)

I have played football....its not as much padding as you think. And i'm sorry but when you have a 325 pound defensive end that runs a 4.9 40 that lays into you with the upmost hatred......don't give me any crap about soccer players getting spiked in the shin. Or how about a 6'4 linebacker that is as strong as a tank blindsiding you over the middle in mid-air. Same difference.

I think this is more of a European thing than a soccer vs football thing. Witness guys like Vlade Divac (known flopper) in the NBA. Some sports analysts have said that the flopping is part of the entertainment for European sports fans.

The guys I know who play soccer are pretty tough - I'm not saying their tougher than American football players, but they're no pushovers.

I wasn't really trying to compare the two, just referencing the liklihood of injuries, etc.

Someone who dramtaically "flops" to the ground everytime anyone gets near them - trying to draw fouls.

And I'm not saying football players don't get beat all the the time - I love "Jacked up" like the next girl! :p - I'm just saying there is more padding. And football is played as a contact sport. Soccer isn't supposed to be about hitting each other.

And the issues in soccer are usually only about the legs/knees/ankles. So when they are down, they often have to get carted off because the issue is with the joints used for walking.

I've been on the Sweden bandwagon for a while now, and if England and their hooligans decide to step it up and tear up some cities, I might hop on their as well.

I have no idea who those soccer guys are, except for that Beckham guy. And I don't understand a stinkin word they are saying. And the kids are not cute.

Hey Adidas. Your commercial sucks ass. Translate the words if you are gonna advertise in this country you bunch of douchebags

hehehehe....the benefits of having one of the national broadcasters broadcasting the games live (no commercials at all) and Commentators that have actually played and excelled in the game. :)
