Coulter calls 9/11 widows "witches"

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Conservative author Ann Coulter sparked a storm on Wednesday after describing a group of September 11 widows who backed the Democratic Party as millionaire "witches" reveling in their status as celebrities.

"I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much," Coulter writes in her book "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," published on Tuesday, referring to four women who headed a campaign that resulted in the creation of the September 11 Commission that investigated the hijacked plane attacks.

Coulter wrote that the women were millionaires as a result of compensation settlements and were "reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by grief-arazzis."

Is this a political comment, or a way to sell some books, I wonder.

And people think she is better than Michael Moore?

I dislike both. Ann is following the path of Moore in the sense that she feels the need the push the envelope further than before with each book she releases.

I rarely get involved in political debates, but I feel the need to weigh in with this one.

The woman offended me with her apperenence on the Today show. Between her comments about the 9-11 widows and other comments, like Democrats aren't religious, shes just stepping over a line with me. And its a pretty deep line. I'm a public school teacher, it takes a lot to offend me.

GeekyPenguin 06-07-2006 10:43 PM

What religion is she? I've always wondered.

Ditto. I saw her on the Today show also and was offended also. She is an extremist and extremists always offend me, whether liberal or conservative.

He's fat. She's thin.

He's ugly. She's pretty (well, kind of)

He's way far left. She's way far right.

They should get married. Their kid would be the perfectly average scitzo.

I think she overdid it this time.

She went way over the line, but there's definitely a grain of truth in what she's saying. (See: Michael Moore, Rush Limbaugh, etc. Different dress, same pig.)

You mean they actually can be criticised? People that create political ads are not above comments from others?

Michael Moore products are based solely on lies. It's not about half truths or exaggerations. Right now he is being sued for millions by a veteran who lost both his arms in Iraq for portraying him as against the war.

And once again Brandon, you only come on to post something against conservatives. Whether or not we agree with Ann or like her doesn't matter but the fact that you keep posting this stuff is ridiculous. Once again, get a life.

She stepped over the line on this one. I'm over the whole "everything in our lives should revolve around the tragedy of 9/11" bit, but it WAS a tragedy. She had no right to talk about the wives of those killed like that.

I knew I disliked for at least 1 reason...

Our society is so fame-crazy that no matter how you get it, if you get it, even in the most hideous of circumstances, you can't help but to think at least a little bit "Hey, cool. I'm famous."

These two lines don't really mesh . . .

Munchkin03 06-08-2006 01:18 PM

I'm so bored with her and human ham sandwich Michael Moore.

FWIW, I always pictured most 9/11 widows as fairly conservative, socially as well as politically. She could be eroding large chunks of her base.

You would only be happy if I posted stuff about liberals. Just because I tend to post mainly in the forum about something a conservative did doesn't mean it is not news. If someone else had posted it you would have found some other reason to insult them. Once again you tell me to get a life but yet again you complain in every one of my conservative threads. So I have no life because I post them but you have a life because you reply to them all and complain?

No I didn't say I would be happy if it was about liberals. If you want I can inundate this website with all sorts of lovely tidbits that I pick up. But I'd rather not. I'm just tired of reading your constant barrage.

It's been explained to you before, but you still play innocent. Get a life.

That's the reason for the "well, kind of," disclaimer. Some find her attractive. I don't.

PiKA2001 06-14-2006 12:35 AM

She is going to be on the tonight show tomorrow (wed) night. I wonder if this mess is going to be brought up.

macallan25 06-14-2006 01:33 AM

of course it will.

kddani 06-14-2006 06:21 AM

I don't know. The Tonight show isn't exactly hard core journalism at work... it's pretty much fluff. I doubt that it'll really be talked about in much detail or anything good.

moe.ron 06-14-2006 09:04 AM

She should go on the Daily Show

The Tonight Show isn't Journalism at all. It isn't meant to be. It's not a part of NBC News. It's an entertainment show pure and simple. The situation may be brought up, but there won't necessarily be any hard hitting reportorial questions or revealing answers. That's not what the show is for.

It would be a kick to see her on the Daily Show.

As much as I love Jon Stewart, he doesn't have the balls to ask the tough questions. Particularly b/c it's a comical show. I was so disappointed when he had Santorum on and it was all joking.

I don't know if Coulter has the ability to make fun of herself enough to appear on the Daily Show.

Yeah, I think ComCen is pulling the reingns in on them. They've been going softer for a while now.

bcdphie 06-14-2006 10:56 AM

Jon Stewart vs. Ann Coulter - there's something I'd like to see.

Jill1228 06-14-2006 12:26 PM

No kidding! She needs a serious bitch slap!

I think all the 9/11 widows need to line up and give that heffa a beatdown!

Whatever I think of Coulter, I didn't like Matt Lauer's interview style. Generally I think he's a good interviewer, but in this one he seemed to be on the attack from the word go. With someone as volatile as Coulter, I didn't think he needed to be quite so aggressive from the start; the interview would probably have naturally led to an aggressive tone at a later point.

It's just a pet peeve of mine in general when interviewers start an interview in attack mode.

Don't worry, i'm sure he'll redeem himself with his interview with Britney airing tomorrow.

The words "Britney" and "redeem" never belong in the same sentence, regardless of the subject.

Haha, probably. I tend to think Campbell Brown is the best interviewer on the show, but that's just my opinion.

Remember that the interview you saw (I didn't see it) wasn't really the beginning of the interaction between Lauer and Coulter. They probably had at least a two minute (maybe more) commercial break or some other program element leading into the segment. That would be enough for her to make me agressive. (OK, read that P-ss me off)

I agree that Campbell Brown is excellent. Actually, I wish she had gotten the Couric position full time. I think Lauer is also, by and large. In either example, as was the case with Katie Couric, it's not easy to go from hard news to softball entertainment. It takes skill.

That could very well be the case, although it wasn't the first time I've seen him use that interview style. I've seen him do some good ones as well, but I've also seen the aggressive streak in him.

I too thought Campbell should get the position, although I'm just glad they didn't give it to Ann Curry. I'm not a fan of her appearances on Dateline.

She's going to be on the Tonight Show with George Carlin. This should be interesting :) (or at least entertaining nonetheless).
