Tyler Perry's "House of Payne"
Ok, since I am home on leave and off from work I wasw looking for my 2nd epissode of Girlfriends that comes on at 5:30 on the WB and there was a new show that was coming on in it's place. It was Tyler Perry's new show House of Payne which stars Allen Payne (who by the way isn't fine anymore) but i'm still glad to see him back on TV and hopefully the series will make it. Was anyone else able to see this show today...from the looks of it, it will be coming all this week at 5:30pm on the WB in my area.
The guy that plays the father is funny. |
I've seen the show a few times. I think that out of the whole cast, the parents are funny. Everyone else is NOT FUNNY!!!!!! I think Tyler Perry should stick to Madea plays and movies.
|
When did it start coming on in your area. Today was the first here. I agree, the parents are the fiunniest, and no one else is. I noticed that the parents have the same last name. Well the people that are playing them. I wonder if they are really married in real life.
|
The first episode came on on the same day that the Girlfriends season finale was supposed to come on. I turned on the TV to watch it and was not pleased when I saw "House of Payne." And for a straight wek or so, it came on in Girlfriends time slots (6:30 PM and 11:30 PM). I was about to start asking questions when Girlfriends was restored into its time slots again. I was one :D :D :D camper.
|
Ok, I see that it is coming on here all this week as well in the 2nd ep of where girlfriends should be.
|
Please not that I looooove Tyler Perry, but..........
House of Payne is not making it with me! I'm not sure if the show is supposed to be a comedy or what. The only people on the show that's funny is the Dad and the hot tail neighbor. The wife of Allen Payne cannot act. It's horrible for real. Tyler did some bad casting on this show. I think Tyler likes to bring "popular" people to the show and what he thinks is appeasing to the eye vs. casting who would be right for the roll. Tyler............Keep on writing your plays! |
He sent out a message via his e-newsletter regarding it and said that the first few episodes are background for the rest of the episodes..he said give it time and you will like it...he also said not to judge it based on the first two episodes.
It's not coming to my area but I would luv to see it... |
Well I saw episode #2 today, and it was worse than yesterday, but again the guy that plays the father is hella-funny. I agree I don't know if this is a comedy or a drama...I guess it's what they call a Dramedy. I really hope that it get better...the crack wife finally left the show today.
|
Oddly enough, this premieres June 6, 2007 -- a year from the day the last post was made. I never saw the test episodes from last year so I am looking forward to seeing it for myself.

I will definitely watch. Thanks for the update.
|
I believe I watched at least two episodes when it first primeired on UPN...that's all it took for me...no wonder it was dropped, lol. Just my opinion but Tyler should stick to plays and plays only!!!

I've heard this from others who have seen this show. But of course, I'm going to have to see for myself. I will be tuned in on 6/6/07. |
I felt the same when the pilots aired last year, but the show has been revamped so I'll give it another chance.
|
You know, I thought that the title sounded familiar. I thought it was on before. You know that Seinfeld and Blossom was on two different networks before it actually got picked up and found it's audience. I hope that it will last time, eventhough it is on TBS. Who really frequents TBS?
|
Actually the show did get better last year when it was on for 2 weeks. I'm actually looking forward to seeing the show again this time. Yes it has been revamped this time, and also Tyler Perry paid for the full 22 ep's out of his own pocket. He said that he didn't want to have to depend on the network to decide if the show was good enough for a full season, so he paid himself and this way people can really try and get at the show, and hopefully it will catch up.

Apparently, Madea is on the show too (preview).

A Message from Tyler Perry - House of Payne Airs this Wed-Jun 6th
Hi Everybody!
Okay, it's getting close to that time. On Wednesday--this Wednesday, June 6th, HOUSE OF PAYNE airs nationwide on TBS. This is a dream come true for me. I tell you. Many of you know this story, but for those of you who don't, I want to share it with you. About three years ago I had a deal with a major studio to do a sitcom. They wanted the show and offered me a lot of money to do it. They said they loved the idea but, as they often do, they wanted me to change everything about it. They didn't want me to use the people that I had chosen and they didn't want me to have any characters make references to faith or Jesus. Well, you know that ain't me. So I walked away. Now here's where all of you came in. I went to Atlanta and put up the money to do the show myself. The only reason I was able to do this is because you all have invested in me over the years. We tested the show in ten markets and you all watched sending the ratings through the roof! So much so that TBS came along and offered a 100-episode deal. This has never been done before. I said all of that to say this--When you know something goes against what you feel; when your spirit is churning and restless; don't be afraid to walk away, no matter how much is at stake. God will give the increase. And He did. If you saw the first ten test episodes last year, then forget everything that you saw. The show is all new! New set, new stories, a few new characters and a lot of drama mixed in. This is nothing like any sitcom that you have seen in recent years. I thought, "If real people go through real things, then why can't we do it on this show?" So just know that there is also a lot of drama mixed up in this comedy, along with a lot of life lessons. It's such a great show, with a cast full of underdogs that have been trying to get their break for years. So just know that you have the power to help all of them to realize a dream. So please watch it, if you will. Two shows will air every Wednesday night, but this Wednesday night Madea is on the first show and Brown is on the second. God bless you and thank you for helping me to help these very talented and deserving people get their big break. Please let me know that you plan on watching this Wednesday by leaving me a quick message on the message board at http://www.tylerperry.com/messageboard Be Blessed, TYLER |
*sigh*
Thus far. Hoping the next episode is much better. |

Oh my gosh! That acting is horrible and whoever is writing for this show should be fired. The problem is they are acting as if they are in stage doing a play which is causing them to over act.

Brown? David Mann. I didn't start to chuckle until he appeared.
Why must Tyler use some of the same dialogue from the plays in the movies and now on the sitcom? Why is BJs wife ALWAYS leaving or doesn't do what she's supposed to do? Is she having an affair? Maybe he should have listened to Hollywood with this feat. It's good to see the firefighter who has played on several sitcoms, including one where he was a minister. The last thing I saw him on was One on ONe as Breanna's stepfather. I BELIEVE he is an Omega. He always had a mug on the show (when he was a minister) that had the Omega crest on it. I forget his name. |

I completely agree with you. So far, this show is a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! However, I'm going to watch the upcoming episodes and hope it improves. I'on know.... |

awful
Both episodes were horrible. I'd have to say I agree that they were acting as if they were in a stage play:rolleyes:
During the preview of next weeks show it seems like they let the cat out of the bag about the wife cheating. She was gone too much and forgot too much while she was away..... I hope it gets better....:( |
^^^Agree. They need to work on that laugh track too.
|
I thought the show was terrible!
|
I agree with y'all. I did like the show better than last year's first draft, but it's still lacking. I liked the episode with Brown better than I like the one with Madea. We'll see if it gets better.
|
Wait, didn't it just premier tonight? How are there 2 episodes out there? Do they re-run???
|
WOW! Never have we been so unanimous in our dislike for a show, lol.
The jokes were recycled from many of his plays/movies and they just can't work over and over again. Brown was funny but then he just got on my nerves when he kept coming back and forth for stuff after they revealed it was Allen Payne's house. Quote:

Tyler said he has a contract for 100 shows. Do you think he will get to the 100th show? |

If this show doesn't improve, and I mean GREATLY improve.... NO, I can't see it making to the 100th show. :( |

I missed the first fifteen minutes of the first episode and woke up thinking "crap!" but then I saw not so much. |
I think they revamped it better in the sense that it doesn't just rush into the heart of the plot as it did the first time. As for funny, I cracked up because I love Brown's character. But I know he won't be a regular part of the show. And the Uncle is not Archie Bunker reincarnate. He's just plain old surly and irritating. But I do think the show has potential. And I'll still be tuning in.
|
I agree with you all, it was not funny at all nor was it entertaining..it was just *blah*...

Just as bad now as the first time. The writing stinks and so does the acting -- but then it does in Perry's stage plays as well.

I didn't catch it but I didn't think it was funny from the previews. Nice try though.
|
For those like me who missed it (because of work, church, other obligation or just plain forgot), both episodes are on tbs.com.
