Girls, question about current jean brands

Ok, there is a big sale coming up here in SF and these are the brands they are carrying:
  • 7 for all Mankind
  • True Religion
  • Hudson Jeans
  • Blue Cult
  • Joe's Jeans
  • 575 Denim
  • Chip & Pepper
  • J&Company

My question is does anyone know how these jeans are cut? Which jeans are best for which body types, etc...
I buy Calvin because they fit the way I like but are so darn*it expensive. I'm looking for jeans with a little more spunk to them.

Thanks:D

PhoenixAzul 05-15-2006 02:46 PM

Whoa, that'll teach me to take a nap this late in the afternoon.

I read,
" Ok, there is a big sale coming up here in SF and these are the brands they are carrying"

And my immediate reaction was, "WHAT THE CRAP IS SINN FEIN DOING SELLING JEANS?!

I definitely need a break from covering the new Northern Ireland assembly.

But on the topic: I got nothin. Sorry.

NinjaPoodle 05-15-2006 02:52 PM

No more ale for you lady:D

valkyrie 05-15-2006 03:41 PM

I don't really have hips or much of a butt, and Sevens fit me amazingly well. If this helps, I'd say they fit more like American Eagle pants than Ann Taylor pants (which are butt-baggy to me).

I don't know about the other brands.

amycat412 05-15-2006 04:38 PM

7 for all Mankind - fits so well, but like valkyrie i have small hips and butt

True Religion - seems to fit a lot of body types

Chip & Pepper - IMO, cut very very small.

Sevens and Paiges are my fav jeans overall. I like the Seven A pockets best. And the Paige Laurel Canyon cut.

WVU alpha phi 05-15-2006 04:41 PM

I own 2 pairs of Sevens and I absolutely love them. One is a dark denim and the other is like a normal shade, fading to dark. Both of them make your thighs look realllllly skinny. I'm not sure how to describe the cut, but from what I've seen, they look pretty great on anyone!

KSUViolet06 05-15-2006 05:47 PM

Seven and Chip & Pepper are cut amazingly and tend to fit everyone pretty well.

jubilance1922 05-15-2006 07:50 PM

I'm a big fan of Evisu jeans right now.

NinjaPoodle 05-15-2006 09:12 PM

Thanks for the responses. I just want to know what I'm dealing with when I get ther and what I should be going for. I have a medium waist and a gymnasts butt and runners thighs. It's really hard to find jeans that fit all over.

ISUKappa 05-15-2006 09:36 PM

I think certain styles of Joe's Jeans are cut a little more generously through the hip/thigh area but still look good.

Yeah it makes a lot of sense to pay $600+ for a pair of Evisus with an awful baggy cut or super tight taper fit. The only times I ever see anyone buy these is Japanese guys with a lot of cash that just love "the hip hop" and can't wait to pair their evisu jeans with a pair of jolly rancher colored bape shoes. I realize I throw away a lot of money, but even I don't understand where the appeal for evisu comes from.

Get over yourself Rudey. I said I was a fan, not that I bought them.

Work on those reading comprehension skills.

Let me use your words on you to help you understand the irony here:

"Get over yourself jubilance1922. I [neither] said [you were] a fan, [nor] that [you] bought them.

Work on those reading comprehension skills."

I'm wearing my blue cult's right now. Joe's are forgiving to the ladies with the ahem, junk in the trunk, ahem

Jimmy Choo 07-31-2006 06:37 PM

As someone who is... well how do I put this..... bottom heavy..... I can't wear Sevens b/c of my thighs. But I have found that Citizens are cut a bit more forgiving. Still snug, but nothing like Sevens.

tunatartare 07-31-2006 07:12 PM

Joe's Jeans are great if you're curvy. I don't like Chip & Pepper because their jeans are cut weird. I tried them on at Saks and I had to go up like 3 or 4 sizes than what I normally wear and they were still weird.

Jimmy Choo 08-05-2006 06:47 PM

For everyone who recommended Joe's jeans if your curvy..... THANK YOU!!!! :) I bought a pair from Saks and they are the best!!!! I actually look normal, not like an oversized pear!!!! :D

I don't know about the other brands.

I completely agree - AE jeans used to be the only brand that would fit me until I discovered Sevens. Citizens also fit well, but it depends on the cut. Some styles (like the A-pocket Sevens) run a bit more snug.

Again, I don't really have much in the way of hips/butt either.

Natalie0628 09-29-2006 11:45 AM

Sevens will not fit me, no matter how many styles or sizes I find. They just don't like me. Same thing with True Religions. I talked to a woman working at the Nordie's here and she said Sevens aren't as high of quality denim as other brands, and aren't made as well (in terms of fit) because they're so popular and mass produced. The owner of Uniquities (a local upscale boutique) also agreed with this.

I usually wear Rock & Republics, which are my favorites, but I always have to get them hemmed because I guess they assume their customers are all like, 5'10". I also really like Blue Cults and PPD (Paige Premium Denim). I'm been meaning to try some Citizens but everytime I go to drop a bundle on jeans, I always go back to my trusty Rock & Republics. ESPECIALLY my Victoria Beckham for Rock & Republics. Looooooove them. Abercrombie & Fitch jeans also fit me surprisingly, and it makes me feel great I can wear a 2 or a 4 there, and a 6 or an 8 other places. Sometimes I get kinda bummed that despite being 5'4" and weighing about 125lbs, I still have to wear a 6/8 or a 29 in jeans...I guess my Croatian and German heritage gives me some wide hips and junk in the trunk :)

everyone i know who has a pair of sevens are very happy with them.
just be careful of imitations, they usually dont go under the 90-100 dollar range when on sale. (reg price around 140)

hope this helps <3 nicole

epchick 12-03-2006 09:40 PM

My friend found some sevens at Macy's for $14. No joke!!

They were not imitations...and she like quadrupled checked the price. The sales woman she asked said "well i dont think they [meaning the people at the register] will sell it to you." But they did!

tunatartare 12-03-2006 10:29 PM

Are they Sevens or Seven for all Mankind? There's a difference.

Munchkin03 12-03-2006 11:49 PM

I'm a big fan of Rock and Republics. I have a small waist and wide hips and I can wear them without having to take them up in the waist, and they're not too baggy in the hips/thigh area.

Are you serious? I have that same issue, and jean shopping makes me crazy! :p If I want to fit my hips, I have to buy a size larger than what would fit my waist. Finding a pair that actually fit like they were supposed to would be a dream come true! I like all the Rock & Republic styles I've seen, so maybe I'll give them a try.

Didn't know there was a difference...lol i'm kinda clueless on brands! lol

I'm gonna guess sevens, but i'm not too sure

ufdale 12-04-2006 02:14 AM

I just can't find jeans short enough. When they get hemmed, they often lose their slight flare (I can't seem to describe it) at the bottom. eh they always look hemmed.
Aparently companies consider women who are 5'4 petite, so even petites don't work. I'm 5'1 (with shorter legs than torso) and I'm so sick of trying on jeans that are a foot too long.

I have that problem too. I'm 5'2. I gave up and just roll or cuff up the bottoms or wear boots or higher heels.

I have the same problem.. i too am 5'1 and short length is just long enough to still need hemming. And the more expensive jeans brands don't even make short length....

amycat412 12-04-2006 10:18 PM

I'm a jeans addict. Favs are my Paiges, True Religions and 7s. Just bought at the most recent Planet Lulu sale Joe's, Citizens, Blue Cult and Sacred Blues. :) Rock and Republic's skinny jeans rock my world.

Like I said, I am a jeans addict. And have a 35" inseam so one of the few who does not need them hemmed.

AchtungBaby80 12-04-2006 11:01 PM

OK, so I think I'm going to order a pair of Rock and Republics...I'm dying to see if they really fit like you all say. :p Where do you think is the best place to get them? I was looking at either Saks or Nordstrom, since they both seem to have pretty nice return policies (as I'm not sure how the sizing runs, so they might end up getting sent back...). What say you?

tunatartare 12-04-2006 11:12 PM

I've ordered from Nordstrom before and haven't had a problem. Also, if you register with ebates.com, you get like 2 or 3% back on your Nordstrom.com purchases.
