Favorite family-friendly 90s sitcoms

I hereby call this the greatest thread to be created on GC.

I think I'd rank the shows like this.

1) Family Matters - The Winslows made me happy

2) Step by Step - Only when Cody first got on the show

http://www.sitcomsonline.com/photopo...5724dana14.jpg

3) Dinosaurs - Who doesn't love baby?

4) Growing Pains - I always wanted an adopted brother that sleeps in a janitors closet

5) Boy Meets World - Who didn't love Cory?

Man. ALot of those shows you listed are more of 80s sitcoms you know?

1- Full House
2- Step By Step

I'll list more as I think of them

TristanDSP 04-28-2006 08:22 PM

1) The Fresh Prince of Bel Air (This show had everything: a mother replaced, a new baby along the way, jazz, trevor, watching Ashley mature into a nice chocolate princess, Will's over acting, the Carlton dance.)

2) Family Matters (The most unrealistic show in TV history....ANYONE with a neighbor as annoying as Steve Urkel would never let him ANYWHERE near their house).

3) Full House (Aunt Becky, D.J, Stef AND the twins? Can't beat that....almost)

4) Step by Step (INCREDIBLY underrated show. I thought Suzanne Somers looked better on that show than she did during Three's Company when she looked all coked out. Al and the older brunettte sisters were both hot, and Dana...well...AND one of the best theme songs to a family sitcom)

5) The Cosby Show (I wonder how Bill Cosby must have felt as his candysweet show lost popularity to vulgar shows like the Simpsons. Not to mention Lisa Bonet....doing whatever the fuck she did...a Different World wasn't as great because they kept redoing the cast).

BobbyTheDon 04-28-2006 08:23 PM

Dude. you see? I forgot Fresh Prince.

Stan, I'd have to throw the Cosbys into the 80s too.

TristanDSP 04-28-2006 08:24 PM

You know, that show went for so long I don't even remember what year it ended. I just remember cousin Pam coming in a couple seasons before they went kaput. That was in the 90s, no?

BobbyTheDon 04-28-2006 08:28 PM

I thin 92?

84-92?

The cousin Pam episodes sucked imo. I hated Olivia too. I wanted to throw her into a washing machine and tell her Rudy was cuter. The later episodes were also the ones where hippie Denise came back and started doing weird shit like wanting to be a rapping teacher, or live on a 50 square foot boat. She was weird dude. She looked high most of the time too.

TristanDSP 04-28-2006 08:33 PM

OMG, or when she had a birthday party for Olivia and made a bunch of nasty ass food like meatless burgers.

Or when she wanted to go Africa and eat bark and insects....who do you think you are, Richard Pryor?

Yeah, if I were Rudy (who is SMOKING BTW, look at the "One Call Away" video), I would have kicked Olivia down the stairs in the basement after she put the crayons in the washing machine.

I wish the final episode would have had Rudy and Kenny "Buuuuuuud" getting it on.

BobbyTheDon 04-28-2006 08:36 PM

Yeah dude. She is fuckin fine now! lol

Denise was hot too, but she was too much of a hippie for me. I was very annoyed by her, martin, pam, sandra, olivia...all those fools. I only liked Theo, Bud, the fat white kid, cockroach, and elvin

TristanDSP 04-28-2006 08:38 PM

HAHAHAHA @ the fat white kid running out of the house numerous times. Remember when they got the juicer?

Peaches-n-Cream 04-28-2006 10:08 PM

I liked Roseanne and the Cosby Show even though they were from the 1980s. I still like the Simpsons.

polosandpearls 04-28-2006 10:28 PM

TGIF!

The show wasn't that great but it was on TGIF.

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2.../strangers.jpg
This was late 80s early 90s

Edit: Add Perfect Strangers

The Winslows never did like Steve. He just butts in to their house, just like Jazz in Fresh Prince. I don't know why Mr. Winslow never kicked Steve out of the house though.....and he's a cop!

Quick hijack here: How did Family Matters end? I never got to see the series finale b/c that's the time when family went on a long overdue vacation & I missed it. *cries* Can someone please tell me b/c I've been curious but apparently too lazy to find out before.

It was an AWESOME show, but I would class it more of an 80s show.

There was a two-part series finale. Steve and Laura were going to get married, but had to put those plans on hold because Steve was chosen to go into space. Eddie was finally became a cop and was assigned meter maid duty. Harriett pulls strings to get Eddie assigned there. Carl tries to explain why Eddie should be a cop. Meanwhile, in space, Urkel's spacecraft is in trouble when a satellite hits it. He has to do a space-walk thing to repair it. He runs into more problems, but eventually makes it home to Laura. They don't marry at the end of the show.

I am by no means proud of the fact that I know this.

BetteDavisEyes 04-30-2006 10:55 AM

Awww...Thanks! :)

KSigkid 05-01-2006 09:42 AM

I'd have to go with Fresh Prince, The Simpsons, and Perfect Strangers.

The Cosby Show was great too, even though it started in the 80's.

Rudey 05-01-2006 11:28 AM

Who remembers when Waldo ran with a bad crowd and they spiked Steve's punch? Then Steve did the Urkel dance and almost fell off a roof.

And Waldo had like fake watches or alcohol or something sewn into his trench coat.

That sounds like the time Will had uppers in his locker, and Carlton accidently took them (he thought they were vitamins). He got taken to the hospital, where Will had a tearful apology. Carlton ended up ok, and everyone learned a valuable lesson.

tld221 05-01-2006 12:13 PM

I'm gonna put my bid in for Roseanne (i think its more of a 90s show--it ran from 1988-1997)

come on, how can you turn away a sitcom about a lower middle class white family, complete with a daughter-switch, gay grandmother, daughters with white-trash-esque boyfriends...

and then the show JTS (jumps the shark) when they win the lottery and go all willy-nilly.

jump the shark - if you really wanna know exactly when your favorite show went downhill

I remember quite well.

The guy who was Waldo's friend was Willie played by Larenz Tate of Love Jones, Dead Presidents, South Central and Menace II Society fame (to name a few).

I too was a Family Matters junkie.

A few weeks ago on Eve, Eddie and Laura were on the show as husband and wife. ILK.:o

Because it was depressing. I mean yeah you laughed a little and then you're like "Crap I hope I never do anything that bad to end up with that life".

I looked up Willie and found out his last name was Fuffner. Then I found this quote and it made me happy :)

Waldo- Hey, whatcha gonna do, Willie?
Willie- I'm gonna trash Urkel's locker!
Waldo- But, why ya gonna do that, Willie?
Willie- Because, it's Tuesday.
Waldo- Again?

-Rudey

TristanDSP 05-01-2006 12:35 PM

Willie: "Do we get a phone call?"
Officer: "One call."
Waldo: "Can it be a 976 number?"

Willie: "He just hit me with a mitten!"
Waldo: "Be careful Willie, he's got another one!"

laughed a little? i laughed a LOT. i thought the show was hilarious! race aside, i think it matched my home life moreso than family matters, cosby show or fresh prince, which are for the most part, far-fetched as sh!t.

clearly cause it's TV. not to say that i didnt enjoy these shows... i was front and center for all of them.

BobbyTheDon 05-02-2006 02:35 PM

Waldo Geraldo Faldo was bad ass. He and Weasel were definately my favorites.

OMG eddie winslow was BUTT ugly. yes, i took it that far back.
sister sister- definitely a fav, but it makes me a little uncomfortable recalling it.

i didnt necessarily "grow up" on "a different world" but enjoyed it nonetheless.

TristanDSP 05-02-2006 06:57 PM

You know, my brother and I stopped watching A Different World after Lisa Bonet and Marissa Tomei (ha, that rhymes) left the show. After they kept switching the casts (Dawn Wells leaving, Sinbad leaving, the show being centered around Dwayne and Whitley), the show probably lost it's fan base and jumped the shark.

Rudey 05-02-2006 07:03 PM

I remember Whitney's accent and I still want to slap her every time I hear it. She's like a black Fran Drescher.
