Thomas married in NO (People.com)

Save the Last Dance actor Sean Patrick Thomas married actress Aonika Laurent in New Orleans on Saturday, PEOPLE has learned.

The couple, who are both 35, had originally planned their nuptials for the fall of 2005 in the Big Easy – Laurent's hometown – but postponed the wedding due to Hurricane Katrina.

Thomas, who has starred in Barbershop and on CBS's The District, and Laurent (Fantastic Four) decided to wait to get married until they could have their dream wedding in their favorite city.

The couple originally met at a party thrown by Barbershop director Tim Story.

This is the first marriage for both.

He doesn't look 35.

They said she's an actress too...has she done anything big?

I remember a wedding planner at a BNOBack meeting mentioned there was a "big" wedding to take place in the city, but was postponed b/c of the storm. I wonder if this was the wedding she was referring to. :confused:

Bow Wow Responds To Lil' Romeo And Master P.

Another story about Bow-Wack

Story

The feud between Bow Wow and Lil' Romeo has intensified, as Bow Wow has responded to comments Master P made surrounding the two rappers' growing beef.

Lil' Romeo's father, Master P, confirmed that the two rappers had crossed paths backstage at Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Award show, on April 1st.

According to Master P, Bow Wow ran in his trailer and refused to talk about tensions with Lil' Romeo

Now, Bow Wow has come forward to address Master P and Lil' Romeo.

"I can't understand all this, but I guess that's how it is when you ain't getting no attention," Bow Wow told AllHipHop.com. "You can hear me on the radio all day, every day. You [Lil' Romeo] can't sell no records, and your daddy is on Dancing With the Stars."

Lil' Romeo was apparently offended at the line on the song "Fresh Azimiz," where Bow Wow claimed to be making more money than an unspecified person's father.

Romeo released a diss to Bow Wow titled, "Hood Stars." Master P also accused Bow Wow's success of going to the rapper's head.

"I just think Bow Wow done sold a couple records and got real cocky, and forgot where he came from," Master P said in a previous interview.

Bow Wow dismissed Master P's allegations.

"The crazy part is the line that got them all bent outta shape was an old LL line ("The Do Wop from LL Cool J's 1987 album Bigger and Deffer). That shows how much they know about Hip-Hop."

Bow Wow also countered Master P's challenge to a Pay-Per-View boxing match between Romeo and Bow Wow.

"If Romeo wanna make some real money, come sign with me," Bow Wow said. "Then, he wouldn't have to pull these stunts 'cause there ain't No Limit over here."

Bow Whack...

If you check crunktastical.blogspot.com or Concreteloop.com, you will see Shad Gregory Moss rocking a rhinestone-encrusted paw print T-shirt. Sorry, Bow, rocking rhinestones doesn't make you hard. Neither does having King Cockroach, oka the Carolina River Cricket man, writing your lyrics. :rolleyes:

On the other hand, "bidnessman" Percy Miller needs to go somewhere.

NUPE4LIFE 04-24-2006 12:49 PM

ST, it's only Monday. Those were it's Friday afternoon and my boss can KMA words. I saw Rome on 106 and Park recently and I didn't know that there was some sort of beef. They both need to sit down somewhere. Bow Wow, your momma gonna spend all your money and No Limit has been looking more like The Limited ever since Cash Money came on the scene. Two little boys trying to be men.

SKEEphistAKAte 04-24-2006 12:56 PM

Beef at backstage at Nickelodeon? :rolleyes: They can't be serious. This needs to stop. This could possibly end up in violence...you know like a cafeteria food fight or something. :rolleyes:

College president's gains overshadowed by scandal

Monday, April 24, 2006; Posted: 10:21 a.m. EDT (14:21 GMT)

HOUSTON (AP) -- As president of Texas Southern University, Dr. Priscilla Slade was building a legacy -- nearly doubling enrollment, constructing new academic buildings and overhauling the financial aid system.

Slade became a popular and high-profile president during more than six years at the helm of the historically black university, the alma mater of the late U.S. Rep. Barbara Jordan and other notables.

But her accomplishments have taken a back seat to scandal.

Slade was fired last week and faces a criminal investigation into her use of state money. She's accused of improperly spending $87,000 to furnish her home, $138,000 on landscaping and exterior improvements, and $56,000 on security related equipment and labor.

Read The Rest Here

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This sounds like there is more going on here. At my alma mater, the president's house WAS owned (and an extention) of the univeristy, which would have included landscaping (the same guys that did our campus, did her home), home decor, and any improvements/renovations. Is this not the case for other HBCUs?
That's how it is at FAMU. The president doesn't the house, the school does. When his tenure is up he moves out and the next Prez moves in. I know good and well if I go knock on the door good ol' Frederick Humphries is not answering the door. I assumed that the landscaping and upkeep of the house was taken care of by the University/State. Maybe this president has another personal residence elsewhere :confused:
At Wittenberg, the university owns the house as well. Really nice house and as it is university owned, all upkeep is the responsibility of the university.
NUPE4LIFE 04-24-2006 04:33 PM
I heard from a FAMU alumnus that the money to build that house came from a gift that Oprah gave to the University. Anyway, once she learned of what they did with the money she was furious and refuses to give to the University anymore.
Wow, I've never heard that story before. Not that I don't believe it. I love FAMU with all my heart, I promise I do. But WHEN I become super rich, I am not giving the school blanket money. If they need computers, I will send them computers. If they need desks, I will send them desks. If they need scholarships, send the students to me, I will evaluate their applications and disburse the money directly to them. I can't have my funds misappropriated. I love my FAMU though, I will just be on a modified alumni donation plan, lol.
ETA: One sweet day N4L will have one nice thing to say about my beloved FAMU. GOSH! (in my Napoleon Dynamite voice) :p
I've seen recent pictures of her taken from her MySpace page and this one does her no justice!
As far as Bow Wow and Romeo I'm not a fan of either and don't keep up with their music but I do agree that Bow Wow has gotten quite big headed. I don't remember which magazine I was reading but he made some very disrespectful comments about Will Smith not being a real actor nor a real MC! I don't know about everyone else but whether you like Will or not you can't deny his success nor his legacy- he is a legend in his own right. For Bow Wow to even fix his lips to say anything remotely disrespectful about any of his elders in the rap game is, in my opinion, proving that he is totally outta pocket!
Are Lil Bow Wow and Romeo still the same height?
BV Buzz 4/24--News on Omarosa
Can someone please tell me when her 15 minutes of fame are up?
The ubiquitous Omarosa Manigault Stallworth told BV Buzz that while she’s not ready to tender her crown as the Queen of Reality Television, there is one title she just conceded. “I have officially relinquished my title as the president of the Itty Bitty Titty Committee,” she boasted over dinner at Clyde's of Gallery Place in Washington, D.C.
Wearing a low-cut red and yellow gown by NuMe designer Victoria Shaffer, Omarosa proudly showed off her new bodacious bosom. “For the first time in my life, I have cleavage,” she said smiling, before admonishing: “Stop looking at my cleavage!” After my apology, she added that this was the first time she had cleavage that she didn’t have to manipulate herself before leaving the house. “Cleavage that is not constructed by a Victoria’s Secret pushup bra, silicone cutlet inserts or taping my boobs together. I’m so happy to have natural cleavage,” she said.
Her transformation from “a negative A-cup” to a “full voluptuous C-cup” was documented for television and will appear on a forthcoming episode of the Discovery Health series ‘Plastic Surgery: Before & After.’ Omarosa’s mother, Theresa Manigault, is also featured on the series. “I treated my mother to a total makeover. The makeover of her dreams,” Omarosa added.
Omarosa kept me abreast—pun intended—of her other recent endeavors. She’s currently starring in a film short directed by Andrew Coppa called ‘Soul Sistahs,’ which is being showcased online now at www.soulsistahs. com. “It was a phenomenal process, very difficult, and all shot on blue and green screen. It was a very intricate process, and we’ve gotten interest in making it into a full-length film,” she said. Omarosa plays a superhero-turned-villain sent to cut Donald Trump’s hair in the semi-animated movie.
In addition to the chest chat and career talk, I asked the always opinionated Omarosa to chime in on some current hot topics.
On Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney’s run-in with Capitol Hill security: “I worked on the Hill for many years. You know who the congressmen and congresswomen are. I think it is extremely disrespectful of the Capitol Hill Police to not acknowledge her as a congresswoman, moreover a senior congresswoman. Secondly, I know how many congressmen and women walk through there without flashing a pen, a badge or anything. It’s about respect or in this case, a lack of respect.”
On Whitney Houston’s reported drug problems: “You know I just wish people would just back up off the whole Whitney piece. I understand it’s of great interest, but in order for a person to have the freedom to be who they are and to experience what they’ve got to experience, you’ve got to give them space. Right now, the scrutiny is ridiculous and unnecessary. For people who are fans of Whitney for all of those years, they need to continue to support her now and not try to tear her down.”
On TomKat (Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes) finally having their daughter Suri: “I’m so damn glad they done had that baby! I am so sick and tired of seeing Tom and Katie walking around pretending to be a normal, functional family. I’m just so glad they had that baby. Whew!”
Star Athlete
If ‘Desperate Housewives’ star Mehcad Brooks decides to give up his day job, he could always become a professional athlete. The Texas-bred Hollywood hunk said his parents kept him and his brother active in athletics from an early age. “We both came up playing everything, and we got to make choices later on. My parents started us off in everything: soccer, football, basketball, baseball, track and swimming,” he said.
While the 6' 3" former model doesn’t have any plans of telling Tinseltown to take a hike, he does have one sport he’d like to perfect. “I love golf. It’s very relaxing,” he added, before confessing, “but I’m not good at it!”
Talk Soup
It was the almighty television that taught actor Djimon Hounsou how to speak English. The Oscar nominated star of ‘In America,’ who hails from Cotonou, Benin, West Africa, told BV Buzz that it was documentaries on the History Channel and the Learning Channel that taught him the English language.
Though he picked up the King’s English easily, Hounsou still worries about his English when working on projects. “The most difficult is working because I can sit here and converse with you, but when it comes to work I'm always worried about not being heard clearly,” he said. Hounsou isn’t trying to lose his accent—“Never any need to fit in, meaning to sound like everybody else”—but making sure filmgoers and television watchers completely understand him is a concern. “That's certainly unnerving for the most part.”
Buzzworthy
Ebony magazine will honor some stupendous ladies at its Outstanding Women in Marketing & Communications Awards Dinner at the Hilton New York & Towers in New York City on May 4. Among this year’s honorees are Deborah Roberts (correspondent, ABC News), Sheila Eldridge (President, Miles Ahead Entertainment), Suzanne Malveaux (CNN White House correspondent), Helen Shelton (Executive Vice President, Ruder Finn Arts & Communications Counselors), Fredia Roberson (Senior Vice President, Campbell-Ewald Advertising) and Xernona Clayton (President & CEO, Trumpet Awards Foundation, Inc.).
Jazsmin Lewis (‘Barbershop 2’), Victor Williams (‘The King of Queens’), Mari Morrow (‘How To Be A Player’), Richard T. Jones (‘The Wood’) and newcomer Aaron D. Spears star in the film ‘Traci Townsend.’ The story centers around a journalist (Lewis) who decides to shoot a documentary on relationships after none of her male suitors ever propose.
Word has is that Slim of the R&B quartet 112 (aka Marvin E. Scandrick) has signed a solo deal to record for Nick Cannon’s Can I Ball Records. Cannon’s sophomore rap CD ‘Stages’ is being released on Motown Records. No word on whether Slim’s solo debut will bow on Motown as well.
Diana Ross’s son Evan Ross (‘ATL’) and Alphonso McAuley (‘Fat Albert,’ ‘Glory Road’) will star alongside Terrence Howard, Kimberly Elise and Bernie Mac in the Lions Gate movie ‘PDR.’ The film is about Jim Ellis who in the 1970s transformed a group of troubled North Philadelphia kids into a top swim team. Most of the film will be shot in Shreveport, La., with exteriors in Philadelphia.
Can’t Say Names…
Sources say a certain R&B boy band is near destitute and has been using ‘Six Degrees of Separation’-like means to survive. Word has it that the group, who has racked up several hit records and earned a few plaques for platinum and gold-selling albums, are now struggling to make ends meet. Maybe the group should be the new spokesmodels for the Boost Mobile phone company, since at least two of them can only afford a prepaid cell phone service. Next, Silk, Koffee Brown, Profyle, Ideal
I saw an interview with either Tyra or Tyler (may have been Tyler on the Tyra show, can't recall) and they were saying that there was a rumor that they were dating, but that they are really just good friends. CT4 and Skee, I would have thought Jodeci too but they were not an option. I'm going with Silk. It maybe Next, because they are the only two groups that are on this list that are not one hit wonders.
John Singleton, Seal, Chris Webber, Tyler Perry...*singing* One of these things are not like the other, one of these things doesn't belong...:o I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Tyler's gay.
On Charlie Sheen: I think Denise is using the allegations and his past (drugs and hookers) to cover herself up. I was also thinking today that Charlie may need to check the paternity of his youngest daughter. She filed for divorce while she was pregnant.:o I think she's going to come out as being the bad guy on this one.
You might have a point there ... in Liz Smith's column for today, I couldn't help but notice this quote:
"I spoke to a well-connected source in Tinseltown, whose ear is ever close to the ground, calibrating every celeb tremor. This person said, 'The feeling here right now is that Denise has overreached by going public with this stuff. Nobody thinks Charlie is a choirboy, but it takes two to make a marriage and two to break a marriage. He's been a gentleman so far. And by the way, he didn't exactly snatch her from a nunnery.'"
Patty's 411
Patty Jackson's 411 for the week of April 24th, 2006
Whitney Houston is back in rehab. The troubled singer has been making headlines due to her addiction. Over the past few weeks, we have seen the pictures and heard the stories about her drug addiction, and how it was destroying her life. Whitney has checked into a facility in Arizona. Her family convinced her to go. Maybe this time, Whitney will get the help she needs. Now that Whitney is getting help, what is going to happen to her husband Bobby Brown? He needs money. He and Whitney are having major problems. They were separated at the time she entered rehab. Bobby left Whitney a few weeks ago. He was tired of fighting with her, and he felt she had disrespected his mother. Some people are speculating that Bobby convinced his sister, Tina, to dish the dirt on Whitney so they could get some money. The Houston family is furious at Bobby and his family, and they want them to stay away. Bobby needs money, and he may have to go on tour. His unpredictable behavior has already caused problems with a possible New Edition reunion. The guys are doing the majority of their summer tour without him.
Now that she’s no longer Mrs. Eddie Murphy, Nicole Murphy can be as wild as she wants to be. To celebrate her recent divorce, Nicole jumped on stage at an LA Club and started to act like a woman out of control. She was dancing, gyrating to the music and getting her freak on.
Will the real Hoopz stand up! Hoopz, a.k.a. Nikki Alexander, was the winner of the VH1 reality show Flavor of Love. Flavor Flav picked Hoopz over the wild contestant New York. The season finale was the highest rated show in the channel’s history. How could Flav pick Hoopz over New York? Hoopz didn’t love Flav. Well, Flav and Hoopz are over. He is currently looking for a new love, and a new season of Flavor of Love kicks off in August. Was Hoopz in it for the fame and fortune? Yes! Hoopz wants to be a movie star. She is currently dating Rapper T.I. He is the hottest rapper out, and he is starring in the movie ATL. T.I left his baby momma, Singer Tiny from Xscape, to be with Hoopz. Over the past week, Hoopz’s past has been catching up with her. Is she married? Is she bi-sexual? She has denied reports that she is married to a basketball player who plays overseas, and she is also downplaying reports that she has a female lover. The female lover claims she and Hoopz love to participate in Ménage a Trios, and that Hoopz isn’t really interested in the guys they bring in, just her. Hmmmmmmm! Will the real Hoopz please stand up?
K-Ci Hailey of Jodeci has a few choice words for ex-love Mary J. Blige. Shut up already!…..It’s over!….Stop reliving the past!……Stop talking about us! Mary J. Blige and K-Ci used to date each other. The relationship was terrible, and he broke Mary’s heart. Mary has just filmed a video based on her relationship with K-Ci called Enough Crying with Rapper 50 Cent. K-Ci wants to know why Mary keeps talking about him and their past relationship. He says he never promised to marry her. He says she had low self esteem. She was just an average woman who liked to act crazy. Mary J. Blige is now happily married to Producer Kendu Isaacs. She has had no comment on K-Ci’s statement.
Halle Berry is set for another hot sex scene in her new movie Perfect Stranger with Bruce Willis. Halle had everybody talking after her Oscar-winning role in Monster’s Ball. This time there’s no Billy Bob Thornton in the mix. It’s just Halle, pleasuring herself
It’s going to be baby number two for Boris Kodjoe and Nicole Ari Parker. The married couple are the parents of a one-year old girl, and baby number two is due this fall.
