Pass It On!!! Things I've Learned Since I've Been Greek
Ok, in these dark times knowledge is scare if existent at all. So share with us WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED SINCE YOU'VE BEEN GREEK!!!
Quotes, sayings, facts, or whatever you find useful. Sorry all my NGF's (non-Greek friends a.k.a. GDI's), this one if for the Greeks! "Just cause he got a t-shirt on, don't make him a brother." "Just cause he got a t-shirt on, don't make him my brother." "No one's diamond is higher than yours (if you're a Nupe)." "Don't lean on the past, but press toward the future." "Pledging is a privilege, not a right!" "Hate is used by the ignorant." "Greek unity exists only where black unity prevails." Let me see what ya got... |
***HA!***
uh oh! I thought this was the Random Spurts thread. ;) :D :p |
Brotherhood doesn't equal friendship.
|
"no one's diamond is bigger than yours"
-people don't pledge as hard as you think. many often exaggerate to make themselves sound harder -some people pledge just b/c they hear it is "required" and since they don't know why they really should they get hazed. -many greeks have very big egos and are very sensitive. -many of the most amazing Black men I have met have been greek. -people sincerely believe the stereotypes of the BGLOs:eek: -If someone disses you or your org. it is mostly b/c something is being done well by you or your org. or b/c something is being done poorly by theirs. -"BGLOs are basically/essentially the same" ( a few people told me this before I crosssed and now that I crossed I see it's true) there just different vehicles on the same path. you choose the orgs. by how you want to get to your goal. -the Four Rubies is what really makes me love Kappa. |
How could I forget this...
Fact: Stereotypes are rarely ever true. |
My personal favorite
Good friend does not equal good potential soror.
(Just because we are homies, doesn't mean you will make a good soror.) |
Learning NEVER ceases
|
*This is a SERIOUS Matter  ;) :D
*That we must always strive to not only be better, but to expect better and do better of ourselves. We owe this to our founders. There is NO other way! *Being a Greek doesn't make one automatically superior to others and it doesn't grant those license to cut up, act a fool, coon and shake, etc, etc. *You are a man/a woman of God/Allah/G-d/Whomever FIRST AND FOREMOST before your affiliation. Don't make Greek Life into a new religion or the end-all, be-all. *If you weren't *it* before you pledged, you won't-all of a sudden-become *it* as soon as you cross! *Your organization doesn't make YOU-YOU should make the organization. *My love can and will grow more and more each day as I learn and grow more and more in Alpha Kappa Alpha! :D *And just in case it wasn't made clear before: THIS IS A SERIOUS MATTER! ;) :D  enigma_AKA |

1. The greatest interest of Alpha, lies outside of itself.
2. You can't shine a turd, it only smears (relative to making guys who aren't about business). 3. You are a man before an Alpha. 4. Being made doesn't always make you right. 5. Your "A" is no bigger that anyone else, nor your Phi. 6. We are definately in the business for the better making of men. Still thinking... |
*Being Greek opens many doors, in the professional and social aspects of life.
*Being Greek closes a few doors, in the professional and social aspects of life. *NUPES and Ques have a weird friend/arch rival relationship. There is still that mutual respect we both share. *Alot of Greek stereotypes & relationships are regional. *Twirlin kanes is like crack- as soon as you are ready to put it down, you pick it up again cause a brother shows you someting new. *Different provinces shimmy different. *NUPES really are the frat they love to hate *On every yard, in every chapter, of every organization, there is one person that makes greek unity impossible. More to come.............. |
~ Just because you are made, that is only the beginning.
~ Learning is a life long process. ~ You should work to make your organization what it is supposed to be...anybody can model the letters! |
"Trolls come in all shapes and sizes and can also be greek"

I would also like to add that you can pick your friends but you will not always have the opportunity to pick your Sorors. |

Keep them coming. Great thread. |

People that want to be your "best friend" all of sudden after you crossed are NOT really your friends. The real work begins after you crossed If you joined a Greek Organization for popularity, you are in for a RUDE awakening If you "skated" to get in, it will eventually tell on you. Blood, Sweat and Tears was literal. Thats it for now. Great thread! |
The one who says they know everything about an org, usually doesn't know squat.
True sisterhood is shown within and across org. lines Learning is lifelong The hard part comes after you cross Again, not everyone who is a friend makes a good soror. Decisions will be made beyond your control, shut up and support. Love deepens with time |
After you cross and your friends say "You've Changed!"...9 times out of 10...they changed..you didn't!
Being greek helps you find out who your TRUE friends really are! Chance made us sisters...love made us friends!;) Every Org has some dirt in their house, and best believe someone is looking for it..and more times than not..they aren't even greek! Most of the greek stereotypes are made up by non-greeks! The real work starts the moment you cross the sands...so wipe off your feet and get to work! Some people lose their identity, remember you are who YOU are...the organization shouldn't make you...you help make the org! More to come as I sit and reflect.....Great Thread!!:D |

Can I get a "AMEN" ? |
Being GREEK is like being in a family:
Unfortunately, you do not get to pick who your family is. E'erbody would trade one or two members if you could. You still deal wit' em cause they are your family. You never put the family's dirty laundry out in public. Don't worry about what another family does down the street, you just make sure you and your family do what they are supposed to be doing. |
EVERYONE has SOMETHING to contribute to the organization
Do YOU! Everything happens for a reason |

I couldn't agree more! |
If you serve your respective organization well, it's VERY HARD work and VERY expensive.
|
This is a lifetime commitment of your time, skills and financial resources.
Learn to listen (what I dont know everything :D ) |
"Perhaps..."
You don't have to be my bruh, to be my brother Do 'nothing' and the criticism will stop. 10% of the people will end up doing 90% of the work... A man at his best (wearing letters or not) can't be too careful. |
..almost forgot:
To Be Discreet is to be Greek. |
Kwality not Kwantity!

When Boule (national convention) or any other large regional meeting is held in a great location, ie Vegas, New York, Miami, peeps come out from the woodwork to attend... but hit up a place like, Tempe Az, it's hard to sell out the hotels..;)
FYI not hatin' on Tempe, I'm sure its a beautiful place but folks KNOW what I'm talking about |
love this thread -
living up to your purpose (creed, symphony, etc) is a lifetime committment but definitely worth it - m |
ladies love theta wood
|
People are totally indifference to your process and more concerned with what you are doing now~ |
*You are a role model, whether you want to be or not!
*After I crossed I became crimsondanger (CD) the Delta, not just CD. *You represent your organization wherever you are (at school, at home, at parties, in stores, etc.) *Blood, Sweat, and Tears do not stop flowing because you cross :D |
The poem "Don't Quit" will always stay with me.
|
"Just because someone calls you 'brother', doesn't make them your friend"
"My grip is a privilege to have learned, it is just as much a priviliege to be given." "Petty people are just that, petty. Be better." "Some people never leave undergrad, physically or mentally." "The work of Alpha is never done..." "Alpha's work is not done in chapter meetings, rather in personal interactions with those you help and, in turn, whose lives you change." "Change begins within." "My life ain't been no crystal stair, that doesn't mean I can't die with one." "The brethren will always be there, will your friends?" "Never forsake your friends who have been tried by fire, for brothers who were supposed to be." "Paper vs. Sand is unimportant if both only show up to parties with para on." "You don't have to be Super Alpha to be her best representative." "Dues are expensive, financial ones excluded sometimes." |
