I just read that 60% of KU's campus is damaged from yesterday's storms.
Good grief... |
Oklahoma has thus far been relatively quiet.
I like it that way. |

Was this besides the last one that tore heck out of Jayhawkville?:( |

Not to mention, the storm chasers are growing more and more obnoxious because they are so bored. |
I've only encountered a couple tornados, NOT much fun, but within 5 months, my house & yard got hit with two microbursts. The good thing is, the neighbors' insurance took care of most of the damage, because their trees did most of the damage.

This was the ones that came through Saturday. I had read it on the cox.com newspage.
Here is the closet thing I could find... Quote:

Wow, the weather gods must be really peoed with Un. Kansas.
They must be getting used to it as nothing on the Local K C News about it. |
Ah, the joys of living in tornado alley. I don't know what I'd do if a twister were headed my way. I live in an apartment on the second floor. I guess just start praying really fervently and really fast.

So far down here in Wichita, we just have been having the 90 degree days - no storms, tornados - nothing.
Just a lot of grass fires though. :p So I guess there is always some natural disaster looming. |

Though, in my area, if there's a tornado spotted, people run outside to watch. |
Tom, be safe you freakin MofoJobro hobo!

Tom, I hope you are OK. I have never been through a tornado (A LOT a hurricanes, as of right now still no earthquakes). A tornado would scare me to death. Why would people want to come outside and watch?

My parents used to do that when I was a kid and it terrified me to the point that I had recurring tornado dreams that one would kill my parents and take our house and I was all alone. So, I stay with my kids now. Just something to think about (tornados were my phobia as a kid though, so I was probably an extreme case). |

In my old neighborhood the sirens went off and we went outside, then hit the basement. Nowadays we've been lucky. I remember being younger and seeing green skies quite often. The only time I've seen green skies since then was 2 years ago. Green skies are amazing.... but red skies are pretty damn freaky. (Dee you might remember when the tornado either hit or almost hit Wyandotte/LP... yeah we were driving across the bridge when it turned red at night... freaky shit) |

Oh Yes, The Earp Be OKAY!:D But, there is a big difference between Tornados, Hurricans, and Earth Quakes. The Big T's You can climb in a big hole!:D The other two, grab butt and hang on! God I Love Kansas!:D Oh, They All Suck! |
Hey Tom, did you read in the paper about the guy in Fordland, Missouri? Apparently he has the new record of person carried farthest by a tornado (and living to tell about it, perhaps).
|
Yep I did!
He said it was a hell of a ride!:D |

And in my hometown, there hasn't been a tornado since statehood. Everytown all around us, yes, but not us. It's because of the bend in the river and the fact that we're in a valley, so the typical path of a tornado will cause it to leave the ground and not touch back down until out of town. If a tornado came from a different direction, we very well could have massive destruction. Though the urban legend as to why is because there is an indian burial ground. |

But, it's dangerous. :(

Damn Skippy Wendy!
Trailer Parks are Tornado Magnets! :( |

And if the house is a trailer home, you are actually statistically safer outside. |

Besides, being inside doesn't guarantee that you won't be picked up. People in Chickasas in the May 1999 tornados got picked up with their house (not a trailer home.) |
Tornados are serious, but they are a part of one of my favorite jokes:
Q. What do a tornado and a hillbilly divorce have in common? A. Sooner or later some poor guy is going to lose his trailer. |
