I can't wait to see this movie!!!!!!!! :) :) :) I'm very excited about it.

CutiePie2000 04-09-2006 03:19 AM

When I was in Paris last month, I found out where the fictitious "murder" took place in Louvre and made a point of stopping into that room.

tinydancer 04-09-2006 09:21 AM

I think I'll see the movie since I've yet to slog through the book.

phisigduchesscv 04-09-2006 12:53 PM

I can't wait for the movie. although I still can't see Tom Hanks playing Robert Langdon. I always pictured someone younger in my mind when i was reading the book.

PhiMuAmberkins 04-09-2006 01:32 PM

I despise Tom Hanks, but hopefully it will be good. I loved the book, so if that stick pretty true to it, I should enjoy it.

smiley21 04-09-2006 02:28 PM

hijack......May 19th is my birthday, so I like it when things get overly hyped for that day. It makes my bday come quicker. :p ....end hijack:D

Are you a fucking terrorist? That's like an American saying they don't like apple pie, what's wrong with you? Everyone loves Tom Hanks! ;)

Yeah...I also don't like apple pie. Sorry. :D

Is your first name Al ? Last name Kayda?

:)

HBADPi 04-09-2006 09:54 PM

phisigduchesscv and PhiMuAmberkins I agree with you on the Tom Hanks issue...I always envisioned Robert Langdon with sex appeal (Dan Brown does mention that in the book) and Tom Hanks does not

That's great. Yep, Amber is just my "non-threatening blonde American girl next door" name. And my exceptionally English last name? A cover up! Ha! *looks around for the feds, hoping they know she's just joking*

And hey, I like apples. And I like pie. Just not together.

OK, I do kinda agree with you guys. I pictured him in the book as the dreamy Professor Jones (AKA Indiana Jones AKA Harrison Ford about 20 years ago). So who would you have picked to play Robert Langdon?

My pick would have been Clive Owen. He's really popular right now, he's old looking enough to play the part, I wonder if he could do an American accent?

Mmm...I love me some Clive Owen...yummy.

The Round Templar Church in London that figures in the book is actually the chapel of my Inn of Court. If you find yourselves in London anytime soon check it out. The vicar is the Rev. Robin Griffith-Jones and he will gladly give a tour of the chapel with lots of commentary on the book.
Its easy to find. Go to where the Strand turns into Fleet Street. On the North side of the street are the Royal Courts of Justice. Diagonally across the street on the South side is the gate to Inner Temple Lane. Its open to the public so walk in and on your left you will see the Temple Church. The main door is usually closed so go to the courtyard and use the side entry. The Templar Knight's effigies are a bit spooky but the whole effect is facinating. There is another round Templar church in Cambridge but it is no longer consecrated and is used as a tourist center and a place to do brass rubbings. Interesting architecture but lacking in atmosphere. The one in London is more interesting and figures directly into the DaVinci Code

they had been doing clips of the movie on "the today show" last month, and what i saw was very good. like the other ladies, i had not thought of tom hanks for the lead role, but at least in the clips he did a good job, and i was able to accept him in his role. i can't wait!!

Inner Temple or Middle Temple?

And no, I don't see Tom Hanks (who seems to have put on the pounds) as Robert Langdon at all.

KSigkid 04-11-2006 09:23 AM

I have no problem with Tom Hanks as an actor, but he wasn't who I envisioned in this role at all.

dekeguy 04-11-2006 10:07 AM

MysticCat81,
Inner. I thought about Lincoln's but realized that I knew almost no one there and I knew a few BVC students, Pupil Barristers, junior members of the bar, and even a couple of Benchers at Inner. What really clinched it for me was a look at an old yearbook from seven or eight years back when they used to list all the members of the Inn. When I saw Horace Rumpole listed among the real members I figured I had found a good home. Of course, John Mortimer, QC is a bencher of the Inn so I suppose his literary creation would naturally be enrolled with Inner.

Oh my god Shae! I totally agree! I'm with you on the Harrison Ford cerca 1985 and I think Clive Owen would have been great in this. I was thinking a no-name would have been better, having someone as big as Tom Hanks takes away from the story IMPO.

i was thinking Harrison Ford/Indiana Jones or the Stargate Daniel Jackson actors (both movie and the series).

My coworkers and I have talked about this and I really think it should have been a no-name person in the role. This way we wouldn't have any preconceived notions of whether the actor is the right fit for the role or not based upon their past movies.

I do like Tom Hanks and think he will do a good job, just still not what I pictured in my mind while reading the book. I think one of the big things in my mind is Langdon as mid to late 30's to early 40's at the oldest.

queequek 05-09-2006 10:37 PM

It's coming closer now ...

bcdphie 05-09-2006 10:41 PM

Like most other people I think Tom Hanks is a wonderful actor, I just don't think he is right for this role. The whole time I was reading the DaVinci Code, the Robert Langdon in my head bore a striking resemblance to Liam Neeson... :p

GreekLetterGirl 05-09-2006 11:22 PM

i'm very pumped for this movie, as I'm a big Dan Brown fan.

I just got my tix for 730 on the 19th via Fandango.

amycat412 05-10-2006 03:01 AM

I am seeing it next Wed as I will be reviewing it for the media outlet I work for. :) Will let you all know my brief thoughts on it. It is the movie I've most been looking fwd to this year!

xo_kathy 05-10-2006 10:34 AM

Totally agree on the Tom Hanks issue. Langdon is clearly supposed to be that intellectual/professor sexy. He always gets a girl in Dan Brown's books! :)

I went to Saint Sulpice when I was in Paris a few weeks ago to see the rose line and the obelisk. We also wished we had reread the Louvre part before we went because we stared at one of the paintings that was supposed to be "coded" by DaVinci, but we coudlnt' remember what to look for! :(

queequek 05-18-2006 08:19 AM

Who will be seeing it premier this Friday?

33girl 05-18-2006 11:44 AM

Early reviews are indicating that this movie sucks and Tom Hanks' performance does as well.

amycat412 05-18-2006 01:37 PM

Saw it last night. Early reviews are way off. Its intellectual, and I think that puts some reviewers off. But other than being too long, I really really really enjoyed it.

I'm hoping that's the case, I've been interested in seeing this movie since I heard they were making it.

Yes, ignore the reviews and make your own decision. I am going to give it a great review when I write it up later today.

Umm at Cannes there were all sorts of reviews for it saying it was not only too long but too convoluted and boring. That doesn't mean it's intellectual. The people that gave it good reviews talked about how you'd like it if you liked bloated large hollywood movies.

Even critics that work for crappy locations gave it bad reviews.

It has a 19% on Rotten Tomatoes right now.

I'll trust the critics.

Amycat likes every movie. From To Wong Fu, to Flight of the Intruder.

I'll watch this movie anyways, even if its sucky. I like sucky movies.

Wow - I'll definitely see it anyway, because I enjoyed the book, but some brutal reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

amycat412 05-18-2006 03:52 PM

I don't like every movie. I've panned most I've seen in the past 6 months.

I loved this book. I had high hopes for the movie. I was worried yesterday when reports from Cannes started filtering in as I was set to see a media screening here in LA last night.

I enjoyed it. Was it perfect, no. Was is interesting, yes. Was it faithful to the book? yes.

But it was 1/2 an hour too long.

Many of the critics I have heard/read have said that is the problem -- it is slavishly faithful to the book as though afraid to risk offending the book's fans. It's rare that a book translates directly to a movie -- usually some liberties have to be taken because of the differences in the ways stories are told in books and movies.

I'll probably see it at some point, but ever since hearing that Tom Hanks (who I think is a great actor but not right for every part) was cast as Langdon, I've had very low expectations.

You probably think all those Ernest movies should win Oscars.

I'm interested to see how he is, because I've had problems with that casting decision as well (which I think I mentioned earlier in the thread).

amycat412 05-18-2006 05:31 PM

Liam Neeson would have made a perfect Langdon.
