Summer Vacations - 2006

Anyone going anywhere?

I'm planning on surf camp with a few friends for a couple of weeks outside of the country...probably costa rica. As long as none of us get screwed with last minute assignments I think that's what'll happen.

KSigkid 04-03-2006 02:59 PM

I'm starting school again in the fall, so I'm not doing anything big this summer. I might go to the Cape for a day or two, maybe a day trip to the Vineyard, but that's it.

pinkiebell1001 04-03-2006 03:16 PM

No "Vacation" for me-I'll be out of town the whole summer though! I thought it'd be interesting to do camp counseling this summer, and I'll be in MA from the end of june to the end of august! I come back and 2 days later I'm moving into the dorm! It'll be fun though:)

kddani 04-03-2006 03:37 PM

I'd love to go somewhere big this year, but I think i'm going to end up taking a few long weekend trips. Niagara Falls and Cedar Point are both in the works, maybe a few others. I'd also like to do Toronto, DC and NYC. But we'll see.

JennRN 04-03-2006 03:50 PM

In June, Mr.RN and I are going to the Dominican Rebuplic for 9 days with some of our friends. I can't wait!! All inclusive, we get our own butler-I'm going to lay by the pool and do nothing!

Rudey, where in Costa Rica are you going? I went surfing in Tamarindo about 1 1/2 years ago.

amycat412 04-03-2006 03:50 PM

A couple of friends and I are planning a trip to St. Lucia for a week.

ZTAngel 04-03-2006 03:53 PM

Nothing too much. I'm going to Savannah for the weekend. In July, I'm going to Cleveland for my cousin's wedding.

I need to plan something fun still.....

Jenn were you at a surf camp/school type of place or just surfed whenever?

I haven't decided on the place yet but I'm thinking Playa Dominical.

What month did you go down there?

A week in Indian Wells and LA in June. A few days in San Fransisco in July. and hopefully a few weekends at the Cape house.

Oh and I have a weekend in Boston too.

GeekyPenguin 04-03-2006 04:41 PM

Back to Door County for my boyfriend's parents' anniversary

NYC to visit a high school friend who lives there and one who will be at OCS in Rhode Island

Quite a few weekends at our lake house

Possibly the Cape if my aunt ends up buying the house she's looking at

Tuscaloosa in the fall to visit kk_gphib_01 and see a football game! :D

KatieKate1244 04-03-2006 05:01 PM

My vacation involves me working and studying for the LSAT. I may take a few days in Cincy, though.

No idea, I just know she found a house she liked.

HBADPi 04-03-2006 05:49 PM

Can I tag on someone else's trip? My friends are being insanely slow with picking our next vacation spot...I'm almost ready to go without them.

epchick 04-03-2006 05:49 PM

Ok, not technically summer and not technically a "vacation" lol, but my dance team is going down to Mexico again for an exhibition at the beginning of May. Woohoo, what a way to start off finals week! lol.

From my understanding the only "vacation" we are going on is our road trip up to San Fran to visit a school---which will probably happen around the end of July.

Tamarindo is a pretty big surf town, and they have a bunch of schools where you can take lessons for the day, or go through a camp. I was down at Playa Conchal for about a week, and decided to learn how to surf while I was there, so I did day lessons in Tamarindo.

We were there in September, which is rainy season, but it wasn't bad at all. It maybe rained for an hour or so each afternoon. No big deal-it was green, and lush, and beautiful there.

I'm jealous of you-you'll have an amazing time.

Dionysus 04-03-2006 06:03 PM

One of my cousins is begging me to come out to LA to see her and then going to NYC. Well that sounds cool, but as I said, I'm scared of flying. Maybe I would take valkyrie's advice and take some Xanax, lol, or light up a joint or something.

Well you'll have to let me know when you find out! And if you go visit her!

ZTAMich 04-03-2006 07:37 PM

I'll be working summer school for July and hopefully if the first visit goes well over Easter/Spring Break I'll be back in MI for some of August with the BF.

_Opi_ 04-03-2006 07:49 PM

I'll be vacationing in law school all summer long. In august, I will go down to boston for a wedding and maybe even Toronto..if I'm still sane.

chitownxo 04-03-2006 08:08 PM

We're taking the kids to DisneyWorld for 10 days, then we'll go to Las Vegas for a long weekend.

KSig RC 04-03-2006 08:37 PM

I'll be in Vegas at the end of this month, then again in September - those are the only ones on the docket now, other than the usual baseball weekends (which, right now, are planned for Milwaukee, Boston and one other)

SigKapBling 04-03-2006 09:08 PM

i love summer vacations!!! Heading back home to New York the middle of July for 10 days to visit the fam and the little cousin's grad party, and then out to Hawaii the second week of August for 2 weeks, and then the last weekend in August I have to go BACK to New York to be in my cousins wedding. ... i come back the night before school starts again. ... Work is going to looooove me :p

AGDee 04-03-2006 10:00 PM

This is going to sound really cliche, but...

I'm going to Disney World!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm also going to Indian Wells, California for the Alpha Gam convention in June.

Sadly, this is all pending my mother's health, but I'm going to be optimistic

ISUKappa 04-03-2006 10:03 PM

No real vacations planned, but the husband's cousin is getting married in the Napa valley in the fall, so we'll probably make a long weekend out of that.

- Nothing says romance like wine country and a six-month-old!

KSUViolet06 04-04-2006 12:45 AM

LA to see my Cali girls and daddy.

SigmaChiCard 04-04-2006 12:32 PM

Job fairs in Atlanta & Chicago

A friend & I were planning a 2 week hike from the lowest point in the US to the highest point which are both in CA and not terribly far apart...Death Valley to Mt. Whitney...but I think each of our jobs may interfere. Also I've been speaking about going to Yellowstone with another friend to climb in August...these are hopeful...this is the least traveling I've done in forever...

cntryZTA5 04-04-2006 02:27 PM

Houston for the ZTA convention, then to China for 9 days at the end of July.

bcdphie 04-04-2006 03:15 PM

I am going to Ontario for my brother in law's wedding. I am hoping to visit TO, Ottawa, Montreal and maybe even the Maritime provinces.

We also plan on going to NYC for a couple of days and then to Boston.

We will probably do our weekend getaways to Whistler as well.

PhoenixAzul 04-04-2006 03:37 PM

Well, as I've been in Ireland and trapsing about Europe for the past 6 months, my cash is pretty much shot. Any traveling I do during summer will be for triathlons!! YAY! But most of them are in PA/OH. May spend one race weekend on Lake Erie (but it is in september, so I'll be swimming the beach in my wetsuit!).

But for my spring break (starts friday!) I am going to take a cycle excursion into the Northern Irish countryside. I was going to go to scotland or the continent, but I just can't afford it (had a bit of a fiasco the past few days). I'm going to hire a road bike and some paniers, hit the road and head north to ultimately end up near Portrush/Portstewart/Coleraine and see Giants Causeway. I'm planning on just going up the Antrim Coast and staying in 2 hostels. The treck is about 80 miles one way. I'm not sure if I can managed the whole 80 in one day, but it'd be worth a shot.

When's the season over at Whistler? Do they stay open later?

Whistler/Blackcomb Mountains will be closed for skiing/boarding by the end of April, however, it's a whole different world in the summer - hiking, mountain biking, canoing, rafting, kayaking, wind surfing, swimming and so on.

I am not a skier, so I actually prefer Whistler in the summertime. Plus it gets incredibly hot up there, which I love.

Oh sorry :) I've never been there in the summer but in the winter it's awesome.

I'm still waiting to interview for a job this summer teaching at a smart kids camp.

So far, I'm going to San Fransisco!!! YAY!!! Hit up a little Price Is Right and Disneyland while I'm out there, too. Its my first trip to the West Coast, so I'm excited. I'll probably hit up Atlanta, too, since I seem to head there about twice a year to visit my best friend.

The cool thing about the smart kids camp is that it is in Hawaii, and I wouldn't have to work weekends. So I'm pretty excited about the opportunity. I'm hoping to get that, not because I think it will be a vacation, but because the weekends will leave me time to explore out there as well.

Xylochick216 04-04-2006 05:11 PM

So far I've got a weekend at Outer Banks with the husband, a weekend at the beach with my AXO family, Chicago for convention in July, then a week in New Hampshire at our family cabin that my grandfather is selling after this season :(

You are picking the worst time of the year to go there. It will be winter by July and that means winter storms. In Costa Rica they are a big deal. The prime time to go is March, April and May during the spring break months. If you do not mind my asking what camp are you going to? Most if not all camps do not supply extra boards when your board snaps from the waves. When I would go each time we brought a minimum of 3 boards each. May I also suggest being watchful of your passport. People pay big dollars in central and south american countries for US passports.

I've heard about the storms but everyone says something different - either they are awful or nothing at all. I haven't decided on the camp but most of the camps supply their own boards. I don't think I'll be bringing my own because the more I think about it, it would be a hassle. If my lazy friend would get off his bum I could do it in May but we'll see.
