All I can say is, 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-9.......06!!!!!!!! That is another reminder why I'm proud to be an Alpha.
On a related note, one of my frat is running for vice president at my school (University of Minnesota). If he wins, I'll break out a broom. |
Good stuff to see our Greeks being active in SGAs! Congrats!
|

I was just down on campus last night for an initiation & saw all the Brown/Jenkins posters littered throughout the Sigma Kappa house as well as Sorority circle! :D I'm glad to hear that they won!
|
Even though the Alpha's are just a corporation, don't your greeks normally win the Student Government elections? As far as I can remember a greek has always won president, and at least two more positions. The only people who have a shot at winning the elections this year, are greeks. Also, it's a fraternity, not a frat.
edit: Also, if you delete this post because i said the Alpha's are just a corporation I will crap myself, because then the mods are essentially anti-truth. Thank you. |
awesome!?!
is it a general trend for Alphas to be active on campus... especially in SG? I was heavily involved in student government and noticed this trend on some campuses... to the point where many BGLOs pretty much "ran" the Black/African American population and represented that constituency. In other words, to win their vote... work with the greeks. |

And though "frat" is a pejorative in your world, in the Black fraternal world it is just an abbreviation for fraternity brother, as "soror" is an abbreviation for "sorority sister." If you disagree, of course that is your right -- but it's not your place to "correct" something that, for us, is already correct. And finally, more than one Alpha is "Alphas." Something belonging to one Alpha (or to the fraternity as a whole) would be "Alpha's." |
Honestly, if Blacks are going to copy the usage of Greek Lettering for their fraternities and sororities, I would prefer that they treat their fraternity with respect. Too often GDI's love to use the word frat.

I'm not sure why the term "frat" is considered ignoble. It's just a shortening of "fraternity" or "frater." I know TKE uses the term "frater" but other groups do not like it. If it's your group's preferred style, who cares? And congratulations to the Greek winners! |
The problem is that it does not show any respect to the fraternity. As the old saying goes, you don't call your country a cunt, and you don't call your fraternity a frat. It's plain disrespectful, especially the way most GDI's and others use it. A "frat" is something they called animal house, a fraternity is a group of men, chosen in their college days because of their adherence to common ideals and principles. Greekchat, of all boards, should understand respect and honor.
haha. |

I don't expect my opinion to matter. You just showed me exactly the reason why I don't want to live in some direction from the South, known as the North, West, Midwest. No respect for the standing institutions. I'm not exactly sure what was ignorance however, would you like to elaborate?

So, what you're saying is that not using the word "frat" is considered a standing institution? |
It's funny that someone is upset that another person uses the word "frat" but his name is "ilikehazing." Call me crazy, but I think that all National organizations are against hazing... I don't think you are too concerned about what GDI think with a name like that.
And you still didn't answer my question. What is wrong with being a corporation? |

Although he IS right in saying that "frat" as used to refer to the organization or chapter is vulgar and trashy. |
