WEIGHT LOSE!
Sorors and sisterfriends, I know we are always talking about loosing weight and how to do it, and what to do. What I would like to know is exactly that. What are you doing, are you taking medications, gyms, etc? Have any of you ever lost a significant amount of weight and kept it off?
I need to loose 50lbs quick. |
This is a good topic. I've tried lots of diets lately. At this time, I'm doing Weight Watchers. The weight has been coming off slowly, but it's not easy to gain back fast. I have high blood pressure and since I can't do all diets, my doctor suggested Weight Watchers. Two of my favorites were the grapefruit diet and the low carbs. They work really well if you stick to it. Exercise is the key to all diets. No matter what you do, you need to exercise with it. You shed the pounds quicker.
|
Ahhh, another topic I can really relate to. I have been on Slim Fast www.slimfast.com for about 6 weeks now. I have lost about 4 pounds of "fluff". This is working for me because I really want it to and the shakes and snack or meal bars take the guesswork out of meal planning for me. I need something simple when it comes to food control. And I look very much forward to my fruit and balanced meal each day. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif
Royalbluelady, you mentioned Weight Watcheers, it is a program that I tried a few years ago. The only reason I was not successful on it was because I was not committed to changing my eating habits. I think any plan that focuses on balanced nutrition and a plan you can do reasonably for life is good. My goal is to lose 32-35 lbs. The weight really crept on after college because I went physically inactive (no more walking to class, step shows to prepare for, or dances, etc.) So watch out world! By the time beach time rolls around, I plan to be RIGHT(for real this time). http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Best of success to all of those on a Health & Wellness Mission (don't just be "aware" of it. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif) ------------------ Sweet Deliverance's PHI-losophy: "What you do or do not do today determines what you can or cannot do tomorrow." |
I have spent the past 6 months working with a personal trainer and that has helped me a lot. I have lost weight, got rid of excess fat and water, lowered by blood pressure, and toning up. I do take supplements and have a meal plan that is tailored around what I like to eat. I have tried diet after diet, but end up hungry and don't stick with it and I think it is mostly because we want results fast. That is something I have come to terms with and give myself realistic goals and timeframe. If you drop 10 pounds in a week...watch out, because you are going to gain 20 quicker.
I wish you all the best! |
I forgot to add that I also go to the gym 2 or 3 days a week and lift weights and walk on the treadmill. Exercise is important also. I didn't gain the excess weight overnight, so I know it will take time to get rid of it.

Hello Ladies of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.!
Just stopped in for a hot second. I just wanted to share my weight loss efforts with you. I have lost 10 pounds since January first. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif I spend an hour on my treadmill five times a week and I try to eat three low fat meals each day. I have tried to cut out a lot of my snacking which is a big problem for me. It is a lot of work but I am determined. I feel so good and I haven't even touched the tip of the iceberg. I have a long way to go. I have lost weight before and gained it back. My main problem is staying motivated. Anyone have advice on how to do that? Have a great day, all! I wish you much success. ------------------ Sigma Lambda Upsilon: Sincerity, Loyalty, Unity http://www.sigmalambdaupsilon.org [This message has been edited by Serenity (edited February 14, 2001).] |

STICK TO IT!!! |
Something else that is very key besides being motivated to work out and eat a proper diet, is to drink plenty of water. If you are having a problem of not wanting to eat yogurt for breakfast instead of eating pancakes, sausage, eggs, and the whole works, start out with small portions. Sometimes we eat just a little toooo much of the bad stuff. Don't completely starve yourself, but eat in moderation. Some people say eating four small meals a day is good because it gets your metabolism high, a lot of is it personal preference and what your diet and workout schedule is.
And don't have quick expectations of losing the weight quick. You will lose motivation and eventually give up. |

Hello to the Ladies of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
I hope you don't mind me responding to your post! My supervising teacher and I (I'm in student teaching right now) were discussing weight loss just last week. She went through the LA Weight Loss program, and in a matter of approx. 2 months, she lost a good 25 pounds. She went down from a size fourteen to a size 8-10 (depending on the designer). She was also telling me that she drank A LOT of water, and ate small portions of what she liked to eat. Hope this helps! PrettyPetite |
I have a gym membership that I pay good money for but don't go to consistently. I am trying to change that. Each year I get a bit older, it gets harder to lose that extra four pounds I used to lose in a few days, LOL.
I think my eating habits are fairly on point--I have always eaten smaller meals throughout the day, rather than large meals once or twice and I limit my fast food consumption. I don't eat much fat or meat (no pork at all), but I do have a problem with carbs--LOVE pastas and breads...therefore, I try not to eat these after 5 PM. I focus on lunch as my "carbie-est" meal of the day. I do have a sweet tooth, but my key is: 1. I try not to buy it at the store and bring it home and 2. have two cookies instead of 10! My problem is the exercise. I work such long hours, then a long commute to boot, I'm just not interested in also working out for a few hours 2-3 times a week. Just today though, a Soror and I have made the decision to work out together two days a week in the mornings. I'll keep you posted on how this goes. ------------------ Finer Womanhood: the "Cat's Meow" Since 1920 |
Jeez, I am trying to trim down too! I really don't need to loose any weight - I am already a size 5 and pretty happy with that. I just need to tone up. I think any of the little extra fat I might have will easily disappear if I just work out enough. I have a hard time finding diets becuase I eat a whole lot of ethnic food, and there aren't that many diets tailored to Asian and Latino foods.
However, my main focus is my stomach. It just seems like no matter how many crunches I do, it never gets any tighter!! It's driving me insane! Have any of you found anything that truly works?? |
Water is DEFINITELY essential in weight loss, but (unless you decide to join Jenny Craig/Weight Watchers) keeping a journal of what you eat is a great way to see exactly what goes into your body.
Sometimes, it can be a pain to record your daily food intake, but it also shows you where your "problem areas" may be. For example-I've noticed that in the morning, yogurt/fruit/cereal will hold me over, but around the afternoon I seem to crave (and eat) more fried/fattening foods. The journal isn't something that you have to do for the rest of your life (try it for about 2-3 months), but if you start to see an unhealthy pattern, ELIMINATE IT!! This will help you to change bad eating habits. Let me know of any progress, and GOOD LUCK!! ------------------ "Mind ya own, stay true to ya own, be ya own." Peace and God Bless Classy_Diva5 |
Interesting topic- I've been trying to lose some pounds myself. I love food so I have to workout all the time. I have a gym membership that I use religiously since I pay good $$$ for it. (Nothing to motivate you like losing dollars, lol!!) I don't have a set workout program, I do everything from kick boxing to ballet to just simply getting on the treadmill. A lot of times it depends on what my stress level is and how much time I actually have). My gym (Gold's) has a lot of different machines/classes so it's a great place to workout.
Water is definitely vital. I made a deal with myself that I couldn't drink anything with 'taste' until I have my 8 glasses of water. It was really hard at first but now I guzzle water like crazy. I've noticed that my skin is a lot healthier now too. ZetaAce |

Sorors and sisterfriends, and the single supportive man who replied. Thanks for all the input. I know all these things, I guess I just need the motivation. I drink the water. I like water, no problem. But I drink way too much soda. Exercise is walking from my home to the car. I'm getting better with monitoring my food intake. So I guess if I could cut the pop and exercise I'll see a difference.

*Thinking out loud* Who would have thought that a bottle of water would cost more than a 2 liter drink? ------------------ Sweet Deliverance's PHI-losophy: "What you do or do not do today determines what you can or cannot do tomorrow." |
One of the main reasons you should drink water when you are trying to lose weight is that it keeps the elasticity of your skin. This way, when you lose weight your skin is firm and doesn't just hang there. Yuck! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif I too "reward" myself for drinking my eight (or more) glasses by having some Crystal Light or natural fruit juice. I usually stick to drinks with no calories and/or no sugar. It's so weird but now that I drink so much water everything else is too sweet.

Oh Puh-Lease! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif LOL! I've wanted to do that for days. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I'm not mad at ya, Asia2000! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/cool.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif Have you tried Tae*Bo for your abs? I did Tae*bo for a while but slacked off. I did like what it did for my abs though. I wasn't "cut" or anything, but my belly was toned. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif [This message has been edited by Serenity (edited February 18, 2001).] |

I just started forcing myself to drink water and now it's habit. I started out like Sweet Deliverance suggested, by putting a little bit of fresh lemon in my water bottle. Now it's just second nature http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif ZetaAce |

Good Advice Ladies!! I think I'll invest in a filter cause the water here does have a peculiar (sp?) tate, and I'll fix it up with a lemon/lime. Thanks! I'll give it a try.

Drinking out of one of the sports bottles helps me immensely as well...I used to hate water, but I found that I drank more if I used a sports bottle or straw than a glass.
I also drink carbonated water too (like Calistoga, San Pelligreno, Perrier or Crystal Geyser) when I just get tired of non-carb water. Does anyone know if there is a measurable difference between carbonated and non-carbonated in terms of health benefits? Thanks, -n. ------------------ Finer Womanhood: the "Cat's Meow" Since 1920 |
For your abs, be sides Tae-Bo, is crunches and to increase your intensity. You can start out with 3 sets of 15 and increase gradually. I usually do like 5 sets of 30 with a 20 second break in between each set. I have really been consistent with it since January and I can feel my my tummy getting tight.
I also hope we beutiful ladies of Zeta Phi Beta are drinking out 8 glasses of water so our skin looks radiant as we get ready to celebrate Finer Womanhood. |

I have tried the GREATEST DIET in the world!!!
I dont know if any of you have tried the ATKINS DIET (low carbohydrate diet), but it works! When I was graduating from college, I was trying to lose weight so I could look good for graduation day. I tried the diet...and I lost 25-30lbs in a month! NO LIE! No calorie counting, no slim fast, no metobolife, no heavy exercising..this diet works! I'm currently back on the diet again...after I dropped my lbs...I went wild...eating all the WRONG foods (apple pie, cheesecakes, fried this and that) and I gained it all back. But if you are interested in trying the diet...check out www.atkinsfriends.com for more information. If don't mind giving up starches, breads, pastas, and sweets for a few months to get to the weight you want..then this diet is for you.. Since the summer time is coming...I'm trying to be BRICKHOUSE for the summertime..I'll post pictures on my website so you can see my before and after! *singing* I'm gonna be a BRICK.....HOUSE!!! lol |
Zphisticated, was it hard to give up the carbs? That's my real problem. I just love bread, pastas, and rice. I have cut down on my carb intake but it has been HARD. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif

ROTFLMAO! I hear ya, girl! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
Even though I am not one trying to lose weight I have found something that really satisfies an appetite for a long time: WATER!! I don't struggle with weight gain and things like that but my problem is that I am always hungry! Which is one of the contributing factors to weight gain. If you drink water it really can satisfy you- hence not having to eat. It also gives me energy and among other things like beautiful skin. They say that you should drink a gallon of water a day. It's getting easier and easier.

I lost three more pounds! So now I am 13 pounds lighter than I was on New Years Eve! *doing the running man* Go, me! Go, me! Go, me! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Has anyone tried a thermogenic fat burner suppliment? If so, how did it work for you? I am still on plan and losing weight, but I want to burn fat and have considered an aid. I read in Oxygen Magazine(fitness, body building for women) about Hydroxycut (think that's the name). I've seen other products also. Holla back at me.
