Official GC March Madness Thread

How about we use this one thread to post all our musings about the Big Dance?

First three games of the day and I'm 2/3. Dodged a HUGE bullet with the BC/Pacific game. Had the Eagles not pulled that out it would have seriously killed my brackets. I'd like to say UWM pulled a big upset today but lets face it, they're a darn good team that if I was a fan of a big conference team I'd hate to be playing. They basically outplayed OU and showed why the Big 12 was lucky to get 4 teams in this year. Up to the 'Hawks, Horns and Aggies to salvage some conference pride. If A&M knocks off SU it will go a long way towards that.

Bomb scare out in SD postponed the start of the Alabama-Marquette game.

FAB*SpiceySpice 03-16-2006 04:55 PM

I'm 3/3....so far. I don't know for sure why I picked Wisc.-Milwaukee over OK, but now I'm glad I did...

Also, thank g-d BC won otherwise my bracket would have been totally killed as well.

This is so bad, I have SO much to be doing but instead I am playing on the internet and watching basketball instead of paying attention in class. Oops.

epchick 03-16-2006 05:01 PM

I'm 2/3. I honestly don't know why i picked Seton Hall over Wichita St., but that is one mistake i made! lol

valkyrie 03-16-2006 05:08 PM

3/3 so far.

Picking Winthrop was an interesting choice, but we'll see what happens.

KSigkid 03-16-2006 05:26 PM

I'm 2/3 so far, and I also dodged a big bullet in the BC game. It looks like Montana is on top of Nevada early, which may upset a few brackets.

valkyrie 03-16-2006 05:56 PM

KATH PLS. TELL YOUR BOYS FROM MARQUETTE TO STOP SUCKING ASS KTHX AND NEVADA TOO.

Again, I say ditto even though I knew better than to pick against Bama. :D

I WAS VERY SAD AND MADE A SPECTACALE OF MYSELF IN THE STUDENT LOUNGE.

jillybean 03-16-2006 08:13 PM

i'm 7/7 on my "sentimental/joke" bracket with Kentucky winning it all.

On my real bracket, i'm 5/7 - damn you Marquette and Seton Hall!

AOIIalum 03-16-2006 08:27 PM

Is Kentucky the sentiment or joke? Please, be gentle with me!

it's a sentiment to me, being from kentucky, but everyone i show the bracket to laughs and thinks it's a joke because they dont think kentucky will get past Uconn in the second round!

USCTKE 03-16-2006 09:00 PM

my bracket is screwed already...I cant believe Bama acutally won...especially with their lack of depth

AOIIalum 03-16-2006 09:02 PM

<hijack>You're from KY? I didn't know that!</hijack>

Okay, y'all, don't laugh too hard. Remember I bleed Kentucky blue...so my secret fantasy is that UK beats the heck out of UAB, then pulls out the upset of UConn thanks to a monster game from Shagari and Woo. While I'm dreaming, WE beat Michigan State in OT thanks to a three pointer by Patrick, and finally ending a nothing short of miraculous tourney run with an April 3rd grudge re-match and mauling of IU in Indy. Sigh. It's fun to dream!

Of course, if any of that happens, you'll be hearing about my funeral arrangements! ;)

I picked Seton Hall, too. I always feel the need to pick the local team to upset in the first round. As a result, my bracket looks crappy right now.

alum 03-16-2006 10:29 PM

Back in the days of the dinosaurs, when GEN Alum was just an LT, I started working @ a bank in Louisville (or as the locals say, Loo-Uh-Vuhll). My coworkers' first words to me were " so who do you like, UK or U of L?" I had vague idea what they were talking about but it seemed dangerous to express a preferance so I said the Celtics. Since I knew nothing about college bball, I figured I better go w/ the (@ the time) World Champions of the NBA.

AOIIalum 03-16-2006 10:58 PM

Daisy, if that happens, you won't need to drive because you'll easily hear me down there! :D

My bracket sincerely thanks the fine folks at GW and Gonzaga for pulling out wins.

Sister Havana 03-17-2006 02:18 AM

My Hoosiers won a nailbiter! Woot! :)

I've only missed 3 games so far. This means, of course, that my picks for tomorrow are going to be way off!

USCTKE 03-17-2006 02:41 AM

that Texas A&M game really helped me out in one of my pools that I entered. They use some weird scoring method and I jumped from last place at about 5:30 to 3rd now only 3 points behind the leader.

and two of our pledges are the ones that are in front of me.

AGDee 03-17-2006 08:04 AM

Alabama and Texas A&M helped my points a lot. I'm 14 for 17 at this point, I think (left my bracket at work), but ours are weighted for seed and level. Seed x level=points.

Nevada, Oklahoma and Seton Hall let me down.

mu_agd 03-17-2006 08:23 AM

I think my bracket is getting tossed when I get into work this morning. Although I'm glad Gonzaga and Indiana pulled it out.

KSigkid 03-17-2006 09:45 AM

My bracket is just not doing well right now. Some of my bigger teams won (the ones that I thought would go further in the Tourney), but the OK loss hurts a bit.

UofISigKap 03-17-2006 10:31 AM

12-4 to start my bracket. I only had three of the losses go to the next round and then lose, so hopefully those will bounce okay. Nevada knocks out two rounds for that one though. The 5-12 seeded games kill me every year. I always seem to pick the wrong ones.

Heh, our boys basketball is completely unreliable this year. However, I think our girls will go pretty far.

And A&M was my saving grace, otherwise I would already be out of the office pool.

Thrillhouse 03-17-2006 02:53 PM

13-3, not too bad. Lucked out with the Wisc Milwaukee pick but never would have thought that the Grizz, A&M, and Alabama would have won.

valkyrie 03-17-2006 03:40 PM

I quit March Madness. That's it. I'm done. I'm going to go hide in the corner, cry, and be sick. The end is near and life is no longer worth living.

mu_agd 03-17-2006 03:44 PM

Did Iowa really just lose?

valkyrie 03-17-2006 03:53 PM

They sure did! That's just great, considering I had them going to the ELITE EIGHT, YES I DID!

epchick 03-17-2006 04:04 PM

WOOHOOO!!! I was scared there for a minute, but NW State and Bucknell were able to pull out wins!!

I need to remember my strategy.

I still didn't expect Texas A&M to win over Syracruse....and have NO IDEA why I picked Wisconsin over Arizona, I must have been out of it when i did that!

That's my bracket too! :)

AOIIalum 03-17-2006 04:40 PM

Come on, didn't Alford get the memo that his team was supposed to WIN two more games and not lose one? I had Iowa in the Sweet 16. My other 15 are still alive, so far.

What on earth possessed me to pick Bucknell over the Razorbacks?

damasa 03-17-2006 05:02 PM

To all those that had the Sooners over UWM, get bent!

Watch out Florida.

COME ONE ORAL ROBERTS! Whenever I think of Oral Roberts I think oral sex. I'm sorry to any people that go to Oral Roberts as I mean no offense.

Not that I went to Oral Roberts, but since they're a conference foe for my team, I CANNOT root for them :p

I couldn't believe that my sentimental pick of SDSU almost pulled it out last night - last night went really well for my picks, but today's completed games so far I'm 2 for 4

Sister Havana 03-17-2006 10:22 PM

I had Michigan State going to the Elite Eight. oops.

Me too :p

Screw you, George Mason and Northwestern State! :o

GeekyPenguin 03-18-2006 12:55 AM

3 of my final four teams are GONE and I'm still in 2nd place in the GC tournament?!??!

WTF?

FAB*SpiceySpice 03-18-2006 01:23 AM

OMG I HATE KANSAS....why do I always have them going past AT LEAST the first round? Seriously I cannot handle these games anymore, after Mich. State lost tonight I was hoping Kansas would at least win.

Oh well, at least UConn didn't lose even though they were behind for awhile (which nearly gave me a heart attack since I have them winning it all).

I need to stay away from basketball watching, it's so stressful! :p

RedRoseSAI 03-18-2006 09:05 AM

Wow - the three teams we were rooting for in this house (in order: Iowa, Michigan State, Kansas) are all out. What a strange first round.

I picked Mason, and boy am I glad I did! I have UNC beating them in the next round, but I'm starting to think GMU can give 'em a run for their money.
