The Sopranos - Season 6

Season 6 of The Sopranos started this week.

This show is so well-written...it really is a lot of fun to watch. Great acting, too. :)

BTW, for the past 8 months, I've known that Tony was going to get shot. I have a friend who works on the show!

AGDee 03-14-2006 07:59 AM

I didn't get that whole beginning piece.. the number 1, number 2, etc. It was freaky symbolic and I haven't had time to figure it out, but it was weird. So many Rats around, that shocked me.

That was "Seven Souls" by William S. Burroughs. I'm not sure of the significance at this point either..

Yeah, the number of rats was shocking.

Seeing Adriana was neat - I'm betting she's buried under the spec house (no, I don't have a tip about this!)..

So, we're into the final stretch now.. any thoughts on last night's episode? How is this going to end? Was the comment that Tony made to Bobby about how the bosses always end up in prison like Johnny Sack or dead a foreshadowing? I'm thinking Tony's fate is one of the two...

I have read in a couple of magazines that there is supposed to be a huge shootout this season. If I remember correctly, it was going to be filmed in a ice cream parlor but the town's mayor has vetoed the filming. Apparently his wife is Italian and he doesn't like how Italian-Americans are portrayed (sp?) in the show.

I loved the fight between Tony and his brother-in-law. I have a feeling that the brother-in-law is going to crack by the end of the season....

*BUMP*

After Sunday's next to last episode, I felt compelled to bump this topic. So what did you think?

Place your bets...who is still "ALIVE" at the end of the series finale next Sunday night?

AJ and Meadow.. and that's it. That's my guess at this point. Oh, and Janice of course, because they already got her husband. Maybe Carmella will make it out, but I dunno. The only way I could see Tony and Carmella definitely making it out would be if Tony decided to go for a witness protection program. He could nail Phil by squealing on him and disappear into a new life. Agent Harris would help Tony as he clearly likes him on some level.

That episode was so intense that I was glad I taped it and watched it again immediately afterward. Then I couldn't sleep because the adrenalin was pumping. Intense. The scene with Bobby was so well done. Did you catch the little figurine from the train set up who was looking shocked? Hands to the face and a look of shock on the face. Classic.

I don't see Tony going into the witness protection program, unfortunately. I think one of the kids (more likely AJ) will make it out alive. While I want to say they won't go after the family, that didn't stop them from killing the mistaken victim's daughter.

Tony and crew are clearly outnumbered. I think he feels like he is the most vulnerable of any time in his life right now.

I TiVO'd the episode. Since you mentioned it, I will definitely go back and watch it again. (I will definitely need to look for the figurine.)

 I'm confused. Who are you talking about here? The white haired guy? That was mistaken identity - they thought it was Phil. But maybe I'm not understanding who you are talking about...

I loved the scene with Dr. Melfi!

And I say Tony gets whacked, too, and Paulie Walnuts takes over!!! :p J/K!!!

I edited it so it says what I meant. I know the guy they killed was mistaken for Phil. The DAUGHTER was killed because she was in the wrong place, wrong time. That is what I get for posting in the middle of the night and not proofreading them! :o

xo_kathy 06-06-2007 03:56 PM

Ah! I understand now...:)

Though, in that instance, they thought it was Phil's girlfirend and not his daughter, so I don't think it counts as the "we don't touch family" rule. Though I'm not ganster...

AGDee 06-06-2007 05:56 PM

Yeah, I'm not sure a goomah counts as "family" and that's who they thought it was.

I'm wondering if alternative endings were filmed as they sometimes are with shows of this popularity. I've read the thing about the ice cream parlor. I've also read that Tony and Carm were seen filming on a beach in California or Hawaii or somewhere like that, which led to the witness protection program idea.

I think Paulie is going to get whacked too, while trying to "guard" Tony.

This split season and the season before it just weren't as good as the early ones, but the last couple weeks were back up to the level that I used to expect from this show.

Sopranos is the whole reason that I've been keeping HBO. I'm seriously considering getting rid of it after Sunday. I know a guy who manages customer support for one the bigger cable companies and he told me via IM the other night that HBO has reps coming in to teach the customer support people how to try to talk people out of cancelling it. They are expecting a mass cancellation with the end of the Sopranos. Amazing!

ZTABullwinkle 06-07-2007 05:18 AM

I saw Edie Falco giving an interview (for some reason, I think it was on The View). She told whoever it was that they filmed four final scenes, and no one knows which one they are using. I have read on some spoiler sites what was seen being filmed. I don't put a lot of belief in them though.

I agree! I am PISSED! How could a show with so much impact go out like a wimp? I am on HBO strike officially!

Gina1201 06-10-2007 10:25 PM

What happened? I don't want to wait to find out!!!

While I hate how the show ended...you have to give them credit for leaving viewers begging fot the movie they are planning on filming.

You may have just saved HBO...are they planning a movie? If so, I am there!

THANK YOU! I was like "OH HELL NAW!" My husband is getting a kick outta my hell raising

kdonline 06-11-2007 03:14 AM

What?! You mean you people can't dream of what happened during the blackout?

They were all hit - or maybe just Tony. The place was crawling with hitmen - that's why the camera focused on all of them.

Come on... did you expect a nice clean ending like "Six Feet Under"!??! ;)

My fiancee heard something about a possible movie. I don't know any more details than that. Sorry.

You and me both! In the meantime, my fiancee was laughing about the ending.

With all the killing that was being done in the previous episodes, I expected a bloodbath (no offense). I think more so after Phil was hit.

I agree. HBO wasted an hour of my life and I want it back.

xo_kathy 06-11-2007 10:53 AM

The whole scene my husband kept saying "They're gonna hit all of them!" But as soon as I saw the Journey song on the juke box - then Tony actually started playing it, I knew nothing was going to happen (well, at least we didn't see anything happen!;)). He still didn't believe me. He thought the cable went out!!!!

In the end, it's what David Chase said all along, the story is really about how Tony is just a family guy and has the same issues as the rest of us...

That WAS our plan-- to cancel HBO after the Sopranos ended. But then we got hooked on Entourage. Go figure.

AGDee 06-11-2007 04:12 PM

A local disk jockey had an interesting theory that makes sense the more I think about it...

You, me, we.. all whacked. As Bobby had said, you don't even see it coming and BAM, it's just all black, over. He said it earlier in the season and they replayed that part last week. So, we, the viewers, got whacked. Not a bad theory, actually.

I've heard rumors about the movie but then I also heard that James Gandolfini, who is a very shy guy in reality, has been really struggling with having to play Tony, the sociopathic homicidal scary man and said he really doesn't like having Tony in his head. So, it will probably depend on whether JG is willing to do it. Maybe in a few years?

I am a little confused about him playing parts like this, after all he has done this show for 6 seasons, and not to mention he played a very similar part (sociopath, murderer, whatever) in 8MM, I mean he was pretty bad in that movie too, and even though I really like that movie, it was also sick and twisted. So I dont see how he was all that shy with the types of acting he has gotten into, but thats just my opinion.

What do you guys think about him being shy after doing 8MM and Sopranos, do you think he is really shy about it, or just a cop-out so he doesnt have to do it anymore, although he would make a TON of money if this movie ever hits the box office.

OMG!!! me too!!!! I was like what the f*ck happened to my cable!!! I hated the ending, but once I calmed down enough to think about it, maybe they were just sensationalizing everyone who was in the diner, maybe no one was killed...also why did they focus so much on Meadow parking? Why didn't I pay more attention in my film classes...:o:o

In my mind, I was thinking...Meadow is about to get it! Then after it went off, I was thinking, they wasted about five minutes of good show to show her parallel parking eight times? My brother called me and was like, "oh, I know you heated!"

Someone else I was discussing this with pointed out that David Chase made us feel, in those last minutes of the show, what Tony feels all the time. Watching every person, waiting for the time that it is someone who is trying whack him. The suspense, the paranoia...

Hmmm...good point. It makes a lot of sense. However, I realized (after watching it on tivo again) that the dude who went in the restroom right before it went off, has played some role on there before. Just can't remember how he was relevant to the whole thing.
