Founders Day 2006
If you went to Founders Day this month, post a note to share your thoughts....
Ours for the Chicago area was this past Saturday. The venue was in the city on the river and there were about 200 in attendance (85% collegians). It was a nice event and the weather was perfect. |
I'll be attending the Syracuse one! I'm so excited, because I haven't gotten to go to a Founder's Day since I was a collegian! Ours is March 25th!
Akron and Kent both have theirs this Saturday at the same time. I had to choose which one to go to. Naturally, I chose the one for my chapter.
We are 127 years old this year! WOW! |

I don't know if I'm going this year. :( I have three invitations (Columbia, Charlotte, and Greenville) and I don't know if I'll go to any of them. Bad, Delta Gamma, BAD! :( |
Ours is April 1st this year, and I am very excited about going!! It will be my first one!! :D
I had to miss Founders Day in Knoxville because I was at the wedding of a sister, and Auburn is having Founders Day today, but I'm up here with a pile of school work. So I guess it will be a Founders Day free year for me :(

Colorado Springs
We had our Founders Day on Saturday with the Colorado Springs Alumnae Chapter and collegians from Beta Delta chapter - Colorado College. While the weather was a little cold, the sky was clear and we had a good turnout. It is always fun to see sisters at Founders Day who don't make it to other alumnae events during the year!
The school that I teach at starts Spring Break this Friday (and lasts two weeks)...and I scheduled a plane flight to go see Chris for March 23rd - April 2nd. I'm sooooo sad though, because my chapter's Anchor Splash is on March 25th - so I'll miss it...and Founders Day is April 1st - so I'll miss that too!! Booooooo...
I'm going this Saturday!
my first Founder's Day was yesterday! I had a blast - the guest speaker was precious! :)
Our Founder's Day was this past Saturday and it was so pretty! The country club we had it at was gorgeous! The food was really yummy, except for dessert, which was a huge piece of chocolate mousse cake -I gave up chocolate for Lent, so I got to watch everyone enjoy theirs!!:(
I really enjoyed it though, and there was a pretty good turnout-the girls from the NC State chapter and the Duke chapter were there. I'll post a pic later if I can. |
Oooh JennRN please post pics when you get a chance. I love to see photos of the girls in my chapter now!
Well, I don't have any of the chapter girls-it's mainly just myself and the girls in my alum group. :D Sorry.
By the way, dukedg, do you know a girl named Anna Lutz? She's in our alum group, and is so sweet! |
Well, I was disappointed in our Founders Day. We had 3 show up. We are kind of in a rebuilding phase now, so I know it will get better. I think one of the best Founders Day I ever attended was in Atlanta, probably 30 years ago. They closed the doors and we did the full candlelighting ceremony. They did the roll call with chapter members standing as their chapter name was called - very emotional for me as our chapter is closed. And for the Omega Toast, the older alums stood on their chairs and lifted their toddies high! THAT's something you won't see again for a l-o-n-g time!;)
Jenn -- I totally know Anna (Metz) Lutz! I saw her at the Duke reunion last year. She was my new member educator :) Please tell her Michelle T says hi!

This is what they have always done at the FoundersDay celebrations here. But with only 3 people I can see how that might not work. We typically have a brunch buffet, speaker, basket raffle, some type of Foundation update, a collegiate/alumnae update, recognition of guests, toasts, grace, candlelighing and oath. |
I'm bumping this thread, rather than starting a new one. I went to Founders Day today at the Berkeley house and it was awesome. We had probably 100-120 or so collegians and alums from San Francisco, Berkeley and Diablo Valley groups.
They honored quite a few 50-year members and even more awesome a 65-year member from the Berkeley chapter who told us about how things had changed since she was in college (for example, a year's tuition at UC Berkeley was then $27.50!). Anyone else already go to a Founders Day or planning on going to one? |
I'll be going on Saturday :)
I did not make it this year but it was held at the Brookfield Zoo outside Chicago. Pretty neat venue!
Ours was SUPPOSED to be this past saturday [March 8th] but due to the weather and such it got cancelled and is supposed to be rescheduled...I was bummed =[
Vanderbilt, Tennessee Tech, and the Nashville and Cookville, TN, alumnae chapters are celebrating Founders Day together on March 15th here in Nashville! We celebrated together last year and decided to continue the tradition :)
I attended Denver's Founders' Day celebration on the 8th. Beta Chi (University of Denver) also attended.

Our Huntsville Alumnae Association had a very successful Founders Day!:p We met for lunch at a restaurant in the plush new Bridge Street Towne Centre and had members of all ages joining us. We also decided to make a donation to the scholarship fund in memory of Lauren Burk, our DG at Auburn. This summer, we will travel over to Tuscumbia to tour Helen Keller's childhood home, Ivy Green, and see the live play, "The Miracle Worker."
Atlanta founders day was AMAZING! it was so interesting to see all of the different chapters--AnchorAlumna, they did roll call the same way, by calling out each chapter that was represented. It was really interesting to see, as there were girls there from places like Iowa, Colorado, and California! It was rather neat. There were also a few 50 year members, and they were precious.
Eta Chapter finally had our Founder's Day yesterday! We were also celebrating 100 years of our Akron Alumnae Chapter. I absolutely loved it!!! It was my first Founder's Day lol
