Mystic Tan

Has anyone else tried Mystic Tan? I had a free coupon and decided to try it over the weekend. I researched the web and did everything just like the video said.....I'm such a weird color (not at all realistic looking).

I have exfoliated until I can't take it anymore and the color is starting the fade (whew). I read so many "I love Mystic Tan" stories and even people at the salon were swearing by it. Maybe really pale blondes shouldn't try it? I've always had a hard time with cosmetics turning orange on me, so maybe thats what happened.

I had thought about trying Tan Cloths (not sure if thats the exact name - they are like baby wipes). After this weekend, I think I'll skip the Tan Cloths and just be a pale face. :p

I was actually gonna try that this week.....b/c last time I went to the tanning bed *after I swearing it off for good* I got sun poisoning. So no more of that for me!!!!!

Hmmm....I'll be interested to hear more stories

I turned orange...I'm pretty sure that it doesn't work that well on people with naturally pale skin.

honeychile 03-05-2006 11:21 PM

I went orange, too. The only way I will ever tan is if my freckles run together.

Please tan responsibly. I wouldn't wish the amount of skin cancer problems I've had on anyone!

I turned golden brown, but it rubs off on clothes, etc and does not last. reg tanning beds are better.

bruinaphi 03-05-2006 11:32 PM

I have olive skin and Mystic Tan works really well for me. I use it in conjunction with regular tanning and it creates a really natural tan very quickly.

Also, I LOVE the Jergens Natural Glow Moisturizing Lotion. It gives me great color and actually has something in it that makes my skin allergies go away. I cannot sing its praises enough.

if you are 35 and above, please reconsider tanning at your age. I bet your skin looks like spotted leather

Nope. I am often carded when drinking/buying alcohol and look 28 tops. But like bruinaphi, I have more olive skin and darker skin does tend to age better... sorry fair people, I mean no harm in saying that.

I LOVE the Jergens as well.

I haven't done Mystic Tan exactly, but i've done other kinds of spray tans. I didn't like Hollywood Tan, it didn't go on evenly. But there's another place in town that's independent that was very even. Neither time did I think the color was a problem. I'm pretty pale and burn very easily and really don't tan at all, so regular tanning isn't an option (nor would I do that to my skin, personally). I'm more blond than red, so I think the color works better on me than it would someone that's more red headed

None taken. I avoided major tans, and have been carded three times in the past two years! I believe in genetics & a LOT of moisturizer! Especially now.

LOL. I'm glad I've tanned maybe three times in my entire life. I've never understood why I'm supposed to be unhappy with my skin color.

tunatartare 03-06-2006 02:38 AM

One of my sisters has tried Mystic Tan several times and raves about it. It's supposed to only last for a week and is pretty pricey, so she only does it before special occasions like formal and stuff. Every time she's done it, it's come out looking good on her and not orangey or fake. Since I can't go tanning for another few weeks now because I still have surgical scars on my body, I'm going to go try it on Wednesday before I go on Spring Break so I don't look pale ghastly white when I get to the beach.

If you look 28, you shouldn't be getting carded since 21 is the drinking age.

Please be careful while tanning.

If people are carding you, then they probably would think I'm Kareem Abdul Jabar.

I used to card everyone. A lot of establishments that sell alcohol have *bizarre* carding regs - anyone under 40, anyone your coked-up manager could possibly think was under 40, etc. And the repercussions (both from the manager and legally - when I was waitressing it was a $5k fine for the server and $10k for the business, plus you couldn't work anywhere that served for 5 years) just makes it not worth it.

Plus, I was a tip whore, and carding a 32 year old woman will certainly get you a better tip.

---

That said, I was less impressed with the Jergens. I tried it right when it came out - I felt like there were so many sparkles I looked like a 13 year old, plus they rubbed off on my clothes.

Anyone know if it's been reformulated, or am I just picky, or what?

I think it must have been reformulated because I haven't noticed I am more sparkly than normal.

It does rub off on your clothes a little - I usually leave it on for 5 or 10 minutes before putting clothes on and that's seemed to stop the problem.

Reeeally. Perhaps I ought to look back into.

I really haven't noticed any sparkles. Did you use the fair/medium one? That's what I have. They apparently have a new facial one, and it now comes in three shades.

HotDamnImAPhiMu 03-06-2006 11:43 AM

No, I tried it two summers ago when it had just come out and there was just one shade (white, with a gold cap.) Then they came out with the white bottle/silver cap, and now they have the 3 "match your skintones" ones.

RedRoseSAI 03-06-2006 11:52 AM

I've done Mystic twice. It usually looks a little orange the first day, then fades to a nice tan.

ZTAngel 03-06-2006 12:48 PM

I'm thinking of trying Mystic Tan. I'm going to Orlando in a few weeks and I don't want to shock my friends with how ghostly pale I am. I always had a tan when I was in Florida!

How long does it usually last? I have a light olive skin tone but I'm still afraid of looking orange. It's too cold to get a natural tan and I'm not about to up the cancer score with tanning bed use.

bruinaphi 03-06-2006 01:57 PM

My Jergens does not have sparkles.

Maybe you had the Sheer Shimmer lotion? It's VERY sparkly, and it has a gold cap and white bottle.

That's definitely a different Jergens. The other one is a tan squeeze bottle. The white bottle with the gold cap is definitely very shimmery, but the brown bottle isn't shimmery at all. I love it.

ETA: Here's the link to the layering lotion

HotDamnImAPhiMu 03-06-2006 02:27 PM

You're right!

GeekyPenguin 03-06-2006 02:33 PM

Has anyone tried the new face stuff from Jergens? The other stuff made my face break out so I'm hoping this will be better.

And to the OP, whoever you were - I've airbrush tanned a few times, it usually lasts about eight or nine days for me. I think that might be slighly different than Mystic Tan though.

for those of you that use the Jergens lotion- how do you do your back? The self tanners i've used have all been sprays, so that helps, but I don't know how you'd be able to get your back evenly

Two words: Significant Other.

Seriously, I make my husband do it. The first time I forgot to remind him to wash his hands, and so his palms had an orange tinge - although you could barely tell through his olive complection.

What do you use?

kddani 03-06-2006 02:47 PM

Last summer I used the Neutrogena brand, great aerosol-type spray cans that you can hold upside down, etc and they still work. The corresponding face tanner is a lotion, and it works great on the fact, very even.
