My question is how many times has he been a victim of rape or incest?

Article below

PIERRE, S.D. - Gov. Mike Rounds signed legislation Monday banning nearly all abortions in South Dakota, setting up a court fight aimed at challenging the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion.

The bill would make it a crime for doctors to perform an abortion unless the procedure was necessary to save the woman's life. It would make no exception for cases of rape or incest.

Planned Parenthood, which operates the state's only abortion clinic, in Sioux Falls, has pledged to challenge the measure.

Rounds issued a written statement saying he expects the law will be tied up in court for years and will not take effect unless the U.S. Supreme Court upholds it.

"In the history of the world, the true test of a civilization is how well people treat the most vulnerable and most helpless in their society. The sponsors and supporters of this bill believe that abortion is wrong because unborn children are the most vulnerable and most helpless persons in our society. I agree with them," Rounds said in the statement.

The governor declined all media requests for interviews Monday.

The Legislature passed the bill last month after supporters argued that the recent appointment of conservative justices John Roberts and Samuel Alito have made the U.S. Supreme Court more likely to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Abortion opponents already are offering money to help the state pay legal bills for the anticipated court challenge, Rounds has said. Lawmakers said an anonymous donor has pledged $1 million to defend the ban, and the Legislature set up a special account to accept donations for legal fees.

Under the new law, to go into effect July 1, doctors could get up to five years in prison for performing an illegal abortion.

Rounds noted that it was written to make sure existing restrictions would still be enforced during the legal battle. Current state law sets increasingly stringent restrictions on abortions as pregnancy progresses; after the 24th week, the procedure is allowed only to protect the woman's health and safety.

Kate Looby, state director of Planned Parenthood, said the organization has not yet decided whether to challenge the measure in court or to seek a statewide public vote in November. A referendum would either repeal the abortion ban or delay a court challenge to the legislation.

"Obviously, we're very disappointed that Governor Rounds has sided on the side of politics rather than on the side of the women of South Dakota to protect their health and safety," Looby said.

She said Planned Parenthood would continue providing services that include family planning, emergency contraception and safe and legal abortions.

About 800 abortions are performed each year in the state.

Wow!!!

44 years old is not that old and rather quite young...

He must have had unchecked hypertension or something...

That's sad... Prayers to his loved ones.

Christopher Reeve's Widow Dies at Age 44 By JIM FITZGERALD, Associated Press Writer
Tue Mar 7, 11:36 AM ET

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Dana Reeve, who won worldwide admiration for her devotion to her "Superman" husband, Christopher Reeve, through his decade of near-total paralysis, has died of lung cancer at the age of 44.

Reeve, a singer-actress who gave up some of her own career to be one of the nation's best-known caregivers, died late Monday at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Medical Center, said Kathy Lewis, president of the Christopher Reeve Foundation.

Reeve had succeeded her husband as chair of the foundation, which funded research into spinal-cord paralysis cures. She announced in August that, while she wasn't a smoker, she had been diagnosed with lung cancer.

Lewis visited Reeve in the hospital Friday and said Reeve was "tired but with her typical sense of humor and smile, always trying to make other people feel good, her characteristic personality."

"She was a woman with an incredible heart who really put herself out there to help people with disabilities and especially those who are caregivers — something she knew a lot about," Lewis said.

Four months ago, at a fundraising gala for the foundation, Reeve looked healthy in a long, formal gown and said she was responding well to treatment and her tumor was shrinking.

"I'm beating the odds and defying every statistic the doctors can throw at me," Reeve said then. "My prognosis looks better all the time."

Asked how she kept her spirits up, Reeve said she "had a great model."

"I was married to a man who never gave up," she said.

That's what I'm saying. If you don't support abortion then don't get one...and I won't even comment on the fact that he's unable to have one...but he shouldn't try to make it so that others can't do with their bodies as they please.

I am a FIRM believer in the separation of church and state. While I may never decide to have an abortion, I don't want someone else restricing my right to decide what to do with my body.

jitterbug13 03-07-2006 09:36 PM

I saw the Larry King Live with Jermaine Jackson last night. He says that he didn't right the stuff and I believe him. Jermaine and Michael have always been close, even as kids, and he wouldn't do such a thing to hurt Michael. He was one of them main people who was defending him during the trial.

Jermaine said he thinks it's coming from an old family friend, who was helping him write the orginal book. This friend also (supposely) helped a former Jackson employee write a book about Michael, which did not put him in a positive light. Most likely, there will be some lawsuits flying because of this.

Condolences to the Puckett and the Reeves families, espcially Will. He's lost both parents in less than two years.:( :(

BV Buzz--News on Victoria Rowell of Y&R

'The Young and the Restless' star Victoria Rowell took home her very last NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama Series when the show was taped on Feb. 25 at the Shrine Auditorium. The soap opera veteran revealed backstage at the 37th Annual NAACP Image Awards that she would take a page from Oprah Winfrey, who in 1999 removed herself from future Emmy consideration, and recuse herself from the Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama Series category.

"I have won consecutively, and I want to give way to other actresses. I feel that if I do not submit myself, then I give an opportunity to younger actresses in daytime television. There are so many actresses, and I think that I should do that," said Rowell.

When probed about reports that she's dating Oscar-winning actor/chart-topping singer Jamie Foxx, Rowell's reply wasn't exactly a denial: "Jamie Foxx and I share a very, very deep connection in that two women of no relation raised us. We share that, and we're kindred in that way. So when Jamie and I see each other, it may appear to the public that, you know, that it's a lot more. But it is a lot more! Because we are who we are. He's very special to me."

Rumor Control

Here's an attempt to put an end to another bogus Internet hoax. The heavily-circulated Internet report claiming that Grammy-winning gospel artist and New York-based pastor, Hezekiah Walker had "come out" and disclosed that he was a "homosexual" is a complete fabrication. Among the disparaging remarks in the two variations of the false news item-one by MediaTakeOut.com and the other courtesy of MusicNewsWeekly.com-were that Walker "forced his wife and children from their home so that he could live in peace with his transvestite lover;" "infected [his soon-to-be ex-wife Monique] with a sexually transmitted disease;" and that "many churchgoers left the church because of all the rumors." It was also implied Walker would step down as pastor of his Love Fellowship Crusade Tabernacle Church.

Walker sent a letter to his parishioners assuring them that the reports were all fictitious. "I'm very proud to be called your Pastor. Please be assured that I would never do anything to bring shame to you or the body of Christ. The enemy seeks to steal, kill and destroy. Character assassination is one of the oldest weapons. People weak in mind believe the worst about everyone," he wrote. "The Satanic email and rumor is a sure sign that this is our Year of Increase. If the enemy is going to get me, he must come better than a transvestite and a blonde wig. As for all of the haters, I'm not taking a step down, but a step up. We will continue to preach against sin and promote deliverance! I refuse to let this distract me, so don't you become distracted. Always remember never chase a lie, because the truth will prevail."

Walker's ex father-in-law, Bishop Carl E. Williams Jr., followed with a statement of his own: "This writing comes on behalf of one of our Brothers in Christ who has come under a vicious and brutal attack via of the Internet. If their marriage failed, it is nobody's business other than Hezekiah and Monique. All or most of what was reported to have gone on during the divorce hearing is a lie. I know because I was there in support of my daughter."

MusicNewsWeekly.com has since offered a retraction of the story with an acknowledgement of irresponsible reporting.

Big Dreams

Journalists were in awe of Beyonce Knowles' surprisingly svelte figure, since the singer has dropped more than 15 pounds because of the rigorous dancing required for her role in 'Dreamgirls.' A costume-clad Knowles performed a brief number with fellow 'Dreamgirls' cast members Jennifer Hudson ('American Idol') and Tony-winning Broadway darling Anika Noni Rose during the fabulous media presentation at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles last week.

Jamie Foxx was on hand to talk about the movie, and exclaimed, "To see Eddie Murphy actually excited about something is amazing!" The 'Ray' star did a dead-on impersonation of Murphy. There's early 2007 Oscar buzz about Murphy's portrayal of James "Thunder" Early in 'Dreamgirls.'

Co-star Keith Robinson ('Fat Albert') was at the soiree and said that he is already eager for people to see the project. "People keep asking me when is it coming out," he said laughing. Director Bill Condon ('Chicago'), choreographer Fatima Robinson and costume designer Sharen Davis ('Ray') were also there to greet the more than 100 members of the press.

And Hudson received her first award less than two months into the production of 'Dreamgirls.' The 'A.I.' finalist was honored with a Female Star of Tomorrow Award during the 2006 ShoWest Movie Picture Industry Association ceremony in February.

Buzzworthy

General Motors, one of the sponsors of the 37th Annual NAACP Image Awards, hosted its annual must-attend Stars and GM Cars Celebrity Brunch at The Cabana Club in Los Angeles. 'Love Inc.' star Holly Robinson Peete hosted the affair, which also featured a live concert set by Macy Gray. Among the Hollywood personalities present for the brunch were Mehcad Brooks ('Desperate Housewives'), Kym Whitley, Michael B. Jordan ('All My Children'), Omarosa Manigault, Tyrese, Marla Gibbs ('227'), Oakland Raider Grant Irons, Rolonda Watts, Lee Daniels ('Monster's Ball'), Roger E. Mosley ('Magnum P.I.'), radio talent Big Lez, Herbie Hancock, Debbie Allen, singer Norwood Young, author Karrine Steffans and Cuba Gooding Jr. Peete poked fun at herself for never winning an NAACP Image Award while hosting. "I'm the Susan Lucci of the Image Awards. I've been nominated so many times and have never won. I stopped counting at 12," she said jokingly. Peete also showed pictures of her children that had them holding up signs begging for General Motors to give them a new fully-loaded S.U.V. "I'm not beyond begging," she added.

'American Idol' contestant Ace Young is dating 'Half & Half' star Essence Atkins. The actress introduced this columnist to Young at the 2004 NAACP Image Awards, after I teased her about the then rumors of her dating Eric Benet. I was familiar with Young because singer Brian McKnight and his manager Silas White had told me about the "talented white guy" they had been working with during a press junket to Paris months prior to that. Atkins and Young were introduced by a mutual friend and began dating around Valentine's Day in 2005. He even guest-starred on an episode of 'Half & Half' last fall. The two are still an item and though they aren't able to spend a lot of time together because of his 'Idol' schedule, they text message each other religiously.

Vivica A. Fox's film 'The Salon' has found a home at MGM Pictures and is slated to be in theaters this spring. The movie, which premiered at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival, was acquired by MGM Pictures even after the studio sued producer Mark Brown for doing the project. 'The Salon' also stars Darrin Henson ('Soul Food'), Kym Whitley ('Deliver Us From Eva'), Dondre Whitfield ('Mr. 3000'), Monica Calhoun ('The Best Man') and Oscar nominee Terrence Howard.

Grammy-winning singer Natalie Cole fractured her right arm the other day when she slipped and fell on the set of the ABC hit 'Grey's Anatomy.' Cole, who will guest-star as a surgical patient, was rushed from the pretend medical hospital to a real one in Encino, Calif. The diagnosis was a break in the radius bone between the wrist and the elbow. Cole returned to the set with her arm in a sling and did her scenes from a bed.

Can't Say Names ...

Sources say that rumored tension between two neo-soul sirens are at an all-time high because of some catty remarks made by one of the singers. Reports of there being a riff between the two caftan-covered vocalists at the beginning of one of the belter's career had been brushed off as "media hype." However, some snide comments by one of the songstresses during a recent documentary taping have apparently caused the claws to come back out. Don't expect these two to duet again anytime soon. Television's Judge Greg Mathis hosted a brunch at his gated home on a hillside in Beverly Hills to introduce his Stand Up For Youth Crusade 2006. Boone (executive producer of 'One on One' and 'Cuts'), Roger E. Mosley ('Magnum P.I.') and media mavens Priscilla ClarkeZ, Wylissa Bennett and Reid Johnson... Rapper-actress Eve, film producer Nia Hill ('The Seat Filler'), rapper Won-G, singer Sharissa, Omarosa Manigault and Alex Avant ('Hair Show') having brunch, separately, at the Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills, while actress Vanessa Bell Calloway ('Biker Boyz') was spotted carrying a large vase of red roses outside the hotel... Nelly, Tyrese, Willie McGinnis, porn star Mr. Marcus, singer Tank, Busta Rhymes, Terrell Owens, comic Deray Davis and auto writer Kimatni Rawlins at Super Bowl champion Jerome Bettis' birthday party at the Vine Street Lounge in West Hollywood... Jerry Springer, Jay-Z, Magic Johnson, Bow Wow and Sony Urban Music Senior Vice President Yvette Noel-Schure among those maneuvering around the swank Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills.

So Many Great People Passing Away....

Photographer, filmmaker Gordon Parks dies
Artist chronicled black America for 'Life' magazine, directed movie 'Shaft'

Updated: 10:56 p.m. ET March 7, 2006
NEW YORK - Gordon Parks, who captured the struggles and triumphs of black America as a photographer for Life magazine and then became Hollywood’s first major black director with “The Learning Tree” and the hit “Shaft,” died Tuesday, a family member said. He was 93.

Parks, who also wrote fiction and was an accomplished composer, died in New York, his nephew, Charles Parks, said in a telephone interview from Lawrence, Kan.

“Nothing came easy,” Parks wrote in his autobiography. “I was just born with a need to explore every tool shop of my mind, and with long searching and hard work. I became devoted to my restlessness.”

When will the Tranny rumors go away? Eddie Murphy can’t catch a break! His soon to be ex-wife is playing hardball with him: either give her money, or she is going to talk. Why else would she decide to talk about his 1997 incident when he was stopped by the police with a transvestite in the car? Nicole wants half, and she is going to get it. Eddie has never been able to live these rumors down, and Nicole is a loose cannon ready to talk. She is ready to cite how he broke the terms in their pre-nuptial agreement by being caught with a transvestite. Nicole has been pretty wild lately. She can’t stop making out in public with her boyfriend. These bizarre acts of exhibitionism are embarrassing. She acts like a woman who hasn’t had any lovin’ in years.

An old book proposal is coming back to haunt Jermaine Jackson. Years ago, when he was on the outs with his family, he wrote a book proposal with a longtime friend called Legacy: The Best and The Worst. In the book, Jermaine made some shocking claims including how Papa Joe molested Rebbie and LaToya. He says his mom Katherine knew, and let it go on. He claimed his father should be in jail for the way he treated his family. He hinted that older businessmen were allowed to take advantage of Michael. He also revealed how he thought Michael was guilty of child molestation. He described Michael as a mean, out of control drug and alcohol abuser who changed the color of his skin. He says Michael bought his kids, and they were a result of artificially insemination. The family did not like Michael being around his young nephews, and that Michael has a dislike for Jewish people. He feels powerful Hollywood Jews stole his ideas, and destroyed his dream of being a movie superstar. Did Jermaine write the proposal? He says he didn’t. But, his former friend Stacy Brown, who helped with the book, claims he did. Brown says Jermaine is distancing himself from the project because he doesn’t want to be banned from the family.

Stephen Hill, VP of Programming for BET, has quite a tale to tell, and he is telling all to Tavis Smiley. In an upcoming episode of The Tavis Smiley Show, Hill admits to payola and fixing the playlist at BET. He received close to a million dollars in illegal payments for controlling the playlist. Hill admits he was told to “whiten up” BET, so he copied popular shows on MTV, like TRL. That’s why they created 106 & Park. Hill has been born again in his religion, Jehovah’s Witness, and he feels it’s time he told the truth. I wonder how long they will keep him at BET, or has he already been shown the door for exposing the truth? First, the BET Network drops the ball on the coverage of Coretta Scott King’s funeral and now this ....not a good day for BET.

The week started out on a sad note with the passing of three people who made their mark. Noted filmmaker Gordon Parks passed away at the age of 93. He was known as a photographer for Life magazine. He also made history as Hollywood’s first Black Film Director of a major studio release with 1969’s The Learning Tree and his legendary work on the original Shaft (1971). Baseball Great Kirby Puckett died after suffering a massive stroke, and Dana Reeve, the widow of Actor Christopher Reeve, died at the age of 44 from lung cancer. She showed tremendous courage and strength as she led the way to help others with disabilities, including her husband as he dealt with paralysis. Life is very short and these three deaths really proved that this week. They all made their make on the world and made a difference.

WHAT’S THE UNDERGROUND BUZZ?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

This Tennis Sensation needs help! Apparently, she likes to drink champagne a lot, and she has been seen in public being escorted by friends. At times, she has been so drunk she can barely stand on her feet. No wonder her sports career is suffering.

This Latina beauty queen can have any man she wants. She is being courted by millionaires and an Academy Award nominated Actor. This Actor is the talk of the town. He is in the midst of a divorce from his wife, and he is madly in love with the Latina beauty. She’s a devout Catholic, and she’s not crazy about the religion he raises his children in, they are Jehovah’s Witnesses. She has been hurt by love before. Her husband, a singing superstar, left her and their kids to return to his true love, another Latina beauty. The Former Beauty Queen wants the Actor to leave her alone. She just wants them to be friends, but he can’t take no for an answer.

This Actress may have to get more plastic surgery. Even though she should stop, she may have to get another boob job. Apparently, her implants have hardened, and at a recent awards show, you can see how bad they are. One breast is sunk in on the side. The pictures are circulating on the internet.

Of course we know who the actress is that needs plastic surgery.

Tranny clause IN THE PRE-NUP? What kind of mess is THAT? Or, was it that he was caught with someone else?

If you have to have a tranny clause, you don't need to marry him/her. :o

Probably Serena

Both Venus and Serena are going to be at the Family Circle Cup. If I see either one of them drunk in the clubs, I'll let ya'll know.

Now India's album is not coming out until May?

Marc Anthony's ex-wife/Terrance's boo is Dayanna Torres. She won Miss Universe a few years back. What did she do to Terrance to want her so bad? I can't blame her on the religion thing.

BET has done to hell in a handbasket.:( :o

I still stand by my statement about Jermaine Jackson.:)

Isn't Ronnie marrying one of the girls from Blaque?

Re: Vivica

I'm glad you posted that. I saw another picture of her prior to this and my cousin and I were trying to figure out what was wrong with her chest. It is much worse than what it was when we saw it. She was wearing something low cut then. She is crazy because at the first sign of my breast doing something weird like that I would have been sitting right at the doctor's office. What is she waiting for? For it to fall off?

I'm not surprised, I mean she didn't think anything was wrong with dating 50 Cent and she sure as heck didn't see anything wrong with showing us her boobies like that :o I would have been at the doctor's office first thing in the morning too though.
