The Apprentice - Season 5
It's only been 2 or 3 years since this show has been on air & already there's Season 5?!
Anyway, we watched the first episode tonight. I'm proud to see Allie, a fellow Univ of Florida alumna as a candidate (the winner of Apprentice 2 or 3 was a UF grad, too! :).. Allie was a Gator Cheerleader...and a Kappa Delta!!! Woohoooo!! And I'm happy to see that she was the first winning Project Manager of this season! ------------------ ETA: Make that TWO KDs! Charmaine Hunt is also a Kappa Delta from Western Kentucky! |
I will not be watching this season. In my opinion Donald Trump is a jerk. I might not like Martha Stewart but he used this little public argument to boost his rating for this season. I use to admire him for his business savy but with recent events with the Apprentice 4 winner and the Martha Stewart incident he just seems like a attention seeking person instead of a business minded person.

I think Trump is a joke, but that's part of the entertainment value of the show.
I have 2 questions: What kind of lame name is Gold Rush? And have Tarek and Summer never watched this show before? What clueless maroons! |
Hasn't a team already used Synergy (or something close to it) for a team name already?
|
Apprentice Teams:
Season 1 -- Versacorp and Protege Season 2 -- Apex and Mosaic Season 3 -- Magna (college grads) and Net Worth (non-college grads) Season 4 -- Excel and Capital Edge Martha's Apprentice -- Matchstick and Primarius Season 5 -- Synergy and Gold Rush I still think Matchstick is the best name any of the teams has come up with, while Gold Rush has to be the worst. Most of the other names, including Synergy, are just blah. ETA: I asked rhetorically earlier whether Tarek had ever watched this show before, since he made stupid mistakes that anyone familiar with the show (and in MENSA) should know to avoid. Well, apparently the rhetorical question wasn't so rhetorical after all. Per the "interview" on NBC.com: "I've only seen a few episodes of the Apprentice because I don’t own a television, but from what I gather the past winners seem like high achievers who have benefited from a lot of luck." |
Another candidate is a KD:
Charmaine Hunt is Kappa Delta from Western Kentucky. |

PS- how do you find stuff like this out? |
I dig the Russian dude.

I get it emailed to me from other KDs....because I am "Annie Online!" |
What did everyone think of yesterday's episode?
I remember when Ivanka was a little teeny kid. Seeing her on this episode just made me feel old. :) |

Personally I was excited to see Bill. Yeah, I'm a dork and I will admit that I think he's kind of cute. LOL.
I thought Lee was a horrible PM. He really should have waited a while to be one. I think Brent is annoying. His ideas are insane. Trump is right, he won't last long. I really like Allie. Any picks on who might be the next apprentice? At this point the only one I can really pick out is Allie, whether she becomes the next apprentice or not, I think she will definately make it far in the competition. None of the guys have really stood out yet. IMPO. |
Ivanka has to have the most boring personality and is not engaging at all. I remember when she would do commentary on the Miss Teen USA pageant... UGH! Zzzzz. It's like she's on downers constantly.
She's a pretty girl, but lifeless. I'm not sure what I think about this season. I've never watched any of the seasons religiously, but I tuned in last night to see the 2 KDs and because nothing else decent is on Monday night. |

I also think blonde Allie (one of the first PMs) will go far. That's it so far for my "predictions" as to who will be the next apprentice. |

I just hope that before he goes, someone can get him to say "moose and squirrel" in a sentence. "Natasha," "Fearless Leader" or "Mr. Big" will be acceptable as well. |

There's another Greek...Pepi Diaz, who was fired this week, is a Sigma Phi Epsilon (per his website).
|
was Lee Greek?
love: Lenny - you cant *phunk with the Russians! Lee - gotta root for the youngins' simply b/c people always think they have too little experice...loved Andy!! too bad he didnt make final 2 glad stacey left...what a tool! she made herself look like an idiot. he threatened me with his finger! geez. you're lame. im glad you're gone! |
Anyone watch last night (3-13)?
Lenny is a jerk who needs to go. I would have fired him and Theresa last night. |
Lenny is the most awesome candidate ever. He freaking rocks. Theresa was a trainwreck and I was so glad to see her go. Andrea was an awesome PM.

And anybody who would respond to 2 other teammates' decision to attend to religious obligations with obscenities and threats that they'll be blamed if the team loses the task, and then actually brings that up in the boardroom after already having been told by Trump "that's life, deal with it," is not only a jerk but a really stupid jerk. Seems to me, if nothing else, the fact that Trump noted that George was also at synagogue would have been enough to convince Lenny he needed to get over himself and let it go. Theresa did deserve to be fired -- both for being a lousy leader and for not bringing Charmaine (and maybe Bryce) into the boardroom. But I have no respect for Lenny. |
Lenny & Brent both make for good television. I had said during episode one, that they are going to last longer than anyone thinks.
IMO, Trump realizes that ratings for The Apprentice are going down (Martha's fault? I dont think so!), and he will keep whatever colorful characters he has, for as long as he can. |
I think you're right, Annie.
|
I'm glad Theresa got the boot. By no means do I find the others flawless, but she was in charge of them and did a poor job IMO.
|
I agree, Theresa did a poor job leading.
Yes, Lenny's attitude sucked but due to editing Theresa could have royally screwed up, not "assigned" the task of finding an electrician to Lenny and then when it came down to it needed someone to blame. I also thought it was annoying for her to blame Tarek for the disaster of their project. He told her they needed a theme and she blew him off, when did that become his fault? As a non project manager how long should he have pushed? I mean seriously, she sucked as a PM. Next week, Brent goes off the deep end. LOL. |
I'm not kidding. Lenny rocks.
I suspect that Theresa, due to her vast incompetence (maybe the silicone has started migrating to her pea-sized brain -- even I couldn't pay attention to her because her boobs were so distracting), she never told him to do anything about electricity. Then all of a sudden Harpy 1 and Harpy 2 (that Bryce dude -- freak on wheels) are ALL OVER HIM yelling and screaming and damn, I would've reacted the same way he did. They were beyond ridiculous. Lenny was working his butt off the whole time and they jump on him for not doing something he probably wasn't told to do, and they didn't even give him the chance to do it because Harpy 2 was so busy SAVING HIS ASS. Yikes. And you know what? I think he was right to call those guys out for missing the whole task. I'm not saying it was wrong of them to take time off because of their religious obligations, but the consequence of doing that was screwing their team. Just because it's religion doesn't mean people aren't going to be pissed off and disadvantaged. That's life. I'd bet money that if a Buddhist or Jain vegetarian appeared on the show and declined to participate in a Burger King task, they'd be bitched out by someone -- and rightly so. I also think that there's a difference between someone who is already established (George) taking time off and someone who is participating in this contest/job interview taking time off. Lenny works hard and is practical. His bluntness is refreshing, but I'm sure some of the fragile flowers in the business world would have a hard time with him -- he won't win, but he's awesome. |
Quote:
I agree that Theresa the Incompetent probably failed to nail down the electricity responsibility, and I also agree that Bryce needed to chill in a major way. But Lenny's attitude not only showed a complete lack of appreciation for his team's interests (something that usually doesn't play well in the boardroom), it showed a complete lack of appreciation for his own self-interest. If something like that happens, someone who actually wants to come off looking good -- someone who is seeing the goal at the end of the "interview" -- would as calmly as possible explain to Theresa that she failed to inform him that she was expecting him to take care of that problem, and then he should have taken care of it. Then he can say "even when dealing with Theresa the Incompetent, I make sure the work gets done." Walking away and declaring "that's not my problem" is not the way to impress a future employer. I'll give him a little slack for raising objection to the Rosh Hashana issue once, but only once. I'll also assume he wasn't paying attention in earlier seasons, such as when Jen C. pretty much got fired for her attitude, including religious insensitivity, or when Trump encouraged Randall to miss a task to go his grandmother's funeral. (Yes, I know the funeral's a once in a lifetime matter rather than a once a year matter, but it still telegraphed that Trump accepts that some obligations trump work sometimes.) Shoot, last season, he even seemed to be willing to cut worthless Toral some slack if it hadn't been clear that she was just making excuses -- I think what he said was that he believed it was important to respect other people's religious beliefs. But even if he wasn't paying attention then, he should have paid attention when Trump said "that's life, deal with it." It's not in his best interest to give Trump an opportunity to tell him that again, yet that's what he did. He should have let it go. He shouldn't have let his own disagreement with the situation get in the way of completing the task or get in the way of his goal of winning a job by showing his potential employer he couldn't deal with it and move on. I guess I can see your point, but I think his awesomeness is mainly in his ego. An awesome eqo is a good trait if you want the kind of job he wants, but only if it's balanced with awesome common sense and awesome perspective -- two things he seems to have at least some of when it comes to the tasks but not when it comes to his own self-interest or to the ultimate goal. That's why I think he's more of a rock that drags everyone down. |
All valid points. I have a soft spot for blunt-ass funny people.

I have to say I'm very glad that Brent was fired.
His attitude really sucked tonight on the show. Yes, their strategy of not having him to anything of importance was kind of lame (and might have backfired on them) but he is/was impossible. I couldn't believe that he was accusing Tammy of not letting him be the spokesperson because he is fat? I mean, I can't quote her, but I don't recall her at any point saying "your fat, you can't do this". I do recall her saying that he wanted to go in the direction of weight loss and that isn't the direction they were going in. Makes sense to me. If Brent hadn't opened his mouth and completely attacked Tammy the way he did, I don't think he would have been fired. I think it would have been Andrea (for the graphics) or Sean (for being longwinded). But he opened his mouth and the team "fought back". I definately agree with what Trump said, that their team will probably run much smoother now that Brent is gone. I can really see Allie being one of the final two. |
My DVR clearly failed me tonight, but I'll catch it on CNBC this week.

I was starting to think Brent was a Trump mole or something... I can't understand how someone can be THAT outrageous. The idiot couldn't even comb his hair and try to present himself well

I think Brent had a rug. Maybe that is why Trump kept him around. |
That was an awesome reward today!

I missed the middle part of the episode- what was it?
