Spring Break Plans

Gotta love the University System of Georgia - Spring Break is March 6-10...BEFORE spring actually begins....

Last year, me and 2 of my sisters went to Destin Florida. It was still so flippin cold that I have a picture of me on the beach in a sweatshirt and jeans.

This year, I'm going on a Royal Caribbean Cruise - leaving from Cape Canaveral going to Cococay and Nassau.

What's everybody else got planned for spring break?

OPhiARen3 02-27-2006 05:44 PM

I'm doing "Alternative Spring Break" - we're going to New Orleans to do Katrina Relief. I'm supposed to be planning evening activities for when we're done working - any suggestions?

amanda6035 02-27-2006 05:54 PM

I dont know if any of the ideas I have would work - considering the rebuilding of the city. some evening activities I can think of are going to an improv comedy club, or put put golf, arcade, stuff liek that. Maybe have a bbq, or whatever. I dont know if its feasible or not, considering I really dont have any way to know the extent of the damange and what has been rebuilt so far.

PhiMuAmberkins 02-27-2006 06:16 PM

amanda6035, mine is the same time. Silly Lyon College!

Anyway, I only have one day with anything special. March 5th, I turn 21!!! So my birthday is really all, then a week of sitting around, probably working on papers (ie. doing nothing).

jubilance1922 02-27-2006 06:17 PM

Tech's isn't until March 20th, so I'm good.

I'm going to Vegas with the boyfriend.

tunatartare 02-27-2006 06:42 PM

going to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic with the boyfriend

Coramoor 02-27-2006 07:11 PM

I came across a good deal for a 7 day cruise. Hitting 4 or so ports in the caribbean and mexico.

My spring break plans are more prestigious than your spring break plans!!!

USCTKE 02-27-2006 08:39 PM

Probably true. But neither is starving.

When I was in school, the university changed from semesters to quarters, and most people believed it was because St. Pattys day used to fall while most of the big schools in the East and Northeast, who were on quarters, used to stop at our campus on the way to Florida and there were almost always alcohol induced riots.

CUGreekgirl 02-27-2006 10:12 PM

Our spring break is the week of St. Patty's day.

Right now I'm planning on taking my dog, and going back to visit my old college, Clemson. I'm having to do things on a MAJOR budget, so I am probably camping at one of the local campgrounds. We'll go hiking in the mountains, bisit old friends (if anyone is still in town) and a few other things. Then on our way back I am stoping at the beach for a couple days. That is if getting my brakes repaired doesnt cost more than $200 tomorrow

SigmaChiCard 02-27-2006 10:40 PM

Making my first trip to Cali. I'm going to LA. Originally I was going to try to find a job for the summer...not I'm going to try to find a job for NEXT summer by making a few more contacts through friends at American Apparel.

I'm getting a shopping cart & going through the American Apparel Warehouse & raiding the hell out of it....so I'm pumped about that too.

Also the most strange thing is that a friend of mine from London & NYC is happening to come into town that weekend...so we're going to try to meet up which will be awesome too.

GeekyPenguin 02-27-2006 11:20 PM

Going to Door County with the boyfriend and getting drunk on TEH WINE.

KSUViolet06 02-28-2006 12:11 AM

Daytona Beach with my lovely Sigma ladies. I wanted a traditional spring break. You know, crowded hotel rooms, rowdiness, all inclusive drinks, etc. Let's hope we don't die, it could get crazy.

I'm with you. My spring break plans are the same. :(

dzandiloo 02-28-2006 11:36 AM

As an official grown up, I don't get a spring break, but the kids do so we use that excuse to get out o' town when we can...this year, we are going to ski Purgatory...staying @ Durango Mountain Resort...one of the perks of owning a ski shop..we get to go for free! WOOHOOO!!!

valkyrie 02-28-2006 12:31 PM

Although I'm in the "real world" of full time work, we're heading down to SoBe for the Winter Music Conference. It looks like I'll be shopping nonstop until then.

DeltAlum 02-28-2006 01:10 PM

I'll live Spring Bread vicariously through our son who is going to NYC to see some shows and audition.

"Break a leg!"

No, I'm not. That's what the participants have planned for themselves, and since the trip has a very limited budget, and we will be out in podunk, there isn't much else to do.
I think we're only going to go out a few of the nights (it's a full week trip), since we'll be pretty exhausted. We're thinking about doing a ghost tour one night, and one night just setting everyone loose on the town. We want to have one more excursion, but I've never been to New Orleans before and I'm not sure what to plan. One guy just wants to go find local junk food in large quantities one night, but I'm not sure about that ...

adpiucf 02-28-2006 04:15 PM

I'll be working... I miss college "breaks"...

SigKapBling 02-28-2006 06:23 PM

going to hawaii ....... on friday :p

UNLV's spring break isnt for a few more weeks, but 10-15 of us are going a little early !!

lagirl33 03-01-2006 02:29 PM

I'm going to europe! :)
Paris, Stuttgart, and Munich (France and German).

Going to the Big D - and I do mean Dallas, to see if Texas has anything else to offer. I'm going to visit one of my sorority sisters who moved there last year. Not a huge trip, but I'm going to Cali in April and Atlanta in May, so I gotta save up.

georgewallace3 03-01-2006 11:07 PM

You have to go to alot more than dallas to see all that Texas has to offer

WVU alpha phi 03-02-2006 02:05 AM

March 10-17th I'll be going to Acapulco with 14 of my sisters and pretty much all of our guy friends.. I'm still not positive we're all going to survive.

Cardinal026 12-28-2006 11:55 AM

Any Suggestions?

My best friend and I both just started our first "real" jobs this year...high stress, TONS of hours, so we want to do a Spring Break getaway the second week of March...the problem is, we're limited to US destinations due to background investigations for a clearance. Price isn't really an issue, so what would you do? So far I've come up with Vegas, LA or somewhere in Florida...but how warm do you think Vegas would be in March? Hoping to not wear a winter coat on a trip I'm so looking forward to! Thanks guys. :)

ASUADPi 12-28-2006 12:56 PM

Vegas weather is alot like Phoenix weather. And let's put it this way, our average winter temps have been 65-75 (seriously we were at 75 last week). In March, it will probably be high sixities, low to mid 70's. You might get into the high 70's. It just really depends. You won't really need a winter coat (unless you get cold easy). A light jacket, jeans, sweatshirts. I constantly wore my letters (because of UNLV and we have a chapter there).

CA weather, probably more the mid to high 60's and low 70's, because of the ocean. San Diego is a great place to visit (Sea World, San Diego Zoo). Then there is the LA vicinity where there's the Hollywood walk of fame, Disneyland, Universal Studios, Knotts Berry Farm, further north is Magic Mountain. Plus, if you are into checking out your houses, USC and UCLA might be still in session and both schools have houses for the chapters. (I've seen the Chi-O houses at both schools, can't remember anything specific but I think the houses at both schools are beautiful).

Then there is always Texas, tons to do in Texas.

As for me, thankfully being a teacher we get spring break (two weeks). The first week (march 18-24) my mom and I are going on a Mexican Riveria cruise and the second week, I'll just relax (and be sad that I don't get to eat the amazing food that they serve you on the cruises).

JACKETS? SWEATSHIRTS? Are you crazy? That's skirts and flip-flop weather.

Sometimes I wonder how people don't die when they come to the midwest.

LOL that was my thought, too. I know I'm kind of nutty and my people come from the north and all that, but the thought of wearing jeans and a jacket when it's in the high 60s to low 70s had me all WTF.

KatieKate1244 12-28-2006 07:52 PM

Couch, most likely.

However, if the stars and planets align correctly, I may go visit friends in either Malibu or Vermont.

The usual. No need to go anywhere for Spring Break because the weather's generally pleasant here.

But DolphinChicaDDD is coming back here for hers...so cheers to that!

I was just gonna say that! If you can afford it, I highly reccommend Waikiki for Spring Break. I could not afford it as an undergrad or as a grad student. But now that I'm older, and wiser, and have a job to spend more money on travel, Waikiki it is!

AOX81 12-29-2006 01:03 PM

I'm not in college anymore but I plan on going to Florida with my brother, sister-in-law, and my two-year-old nephew to visit my dad, my maternal grandparents, my paternal grandparents, and my aunt and uncle. My sister-in-law will be about five months pregnant so this should be an interesting trip.

Kevin 12-29-2006 02:18 PM

Some of my classmates and I are going skiing. Probably Taos or something like that.

The wife has to stay home because our breaks don't coincide (she's a teacher).
