I was just wondering if anyone knew when Universities really began cracking down on Greeks for drinking in the house?

In the 1980's?

I'd say right around 1990.

I think it was when the drinking age went up to 21.

Mainly when GLOs started getting really stupid with hazing and Alcohol binging started taking place.

Well, not when it started, but when it really started getting press coverage.

We are our own worst enemies!:(

I'd say you are right. Sororities a little earlier than that.

DZTurtle06 - there has been a lot of discussion as to whether you are a legitimate member of Delta Zeta. You seem to mainly start threads on controversial topics, and you haven't posted once in the Delta Zeta forum. There's nothing wrong with not disclosing your affiliation on this board but when you make it part of your username and then seemingly don't want anything to do with the other members on here, people wonder.

If you are really only referring to drinking in the house, I would say the the GLOs started cracking down on it more than universities did, since the GLOs pay the insurance premiums.

You have done nothing but arouse suspicion since post #1.

You have had multiple posts deleted and/or moved to the Moderators Forum because they contained material inappropriate for discussion. Many of these posts portrayed Greeks negatively. In a number of occasions you've reposted the material, disregarding any warnings you've gotten from mods.

Furthermore, you consistently avoid answering your "fellow" DZ sisters when they question the validity of your membership.

How are we supposed to take you seriously after all of this?

Someone who poses as part of an org, that really isn't a member.

Someone who posts generic sterotypical questions.

Someone who's had several threads deleted and still doesn't get it.

Yeah, her posts do seem odd. But I really don't think you should have to prove to someone through interrogation that you are a member of a said organization....unless it is just obvious.

A moderator and two (word deleted) posters, accused saetex or not being an SAE at Texas becuase he didn't want to go take pitctures of his house and post them online.....regardless of the knowledge he showed of Austin Texas and his alumni. The things he said about Austin are things you wouldn't know unless you live there or have been there quite a bit....

The funny thing is that they'll accuse anyone of not being in a greek organization, but then they count honor, service, and incorporated entities as actual fraternities and sororities.

The problem is, several DZ's have "approched" (or whatever you want to call it on the internet) her and she wants nothing to do with them. I agree that it's not necassary to interrogate someone and for them to prove that they are part of an org, but a)most members can tell if others are really a member, and you can see the DZ's have doubts and b)if you do a search, most of her posts are nothing but sterotypical or just plain outright wrong in NPC terms (such as asking for ideas about hazing new members). So I guess what I'm saying is that it is pretty obviously that she's not a DZ and probably not even Greek.

well frankly, its not BS..those service orgs and incorporated crap are not fraternities and sororitites.


I agree with you, however, they accused saetex of not being an SAE because he refused to post pictures of where he lives. Then they kicked him off. Ridiculous. I wouldnt post any pictures of my house. Its none of you business. If you want pics....go get them your damn self

Greek Chat has chosen to consider a number of honorary and service organizations as legitimate Greek Letter Organizations.

You may disagree, but it's not your decision to make.

And I'm glad you agree with me on something, because for awhile I thought if I said "Ice is cold" you would argue with me for the sake of arguing.

Thank you to all of those who are defending my posts. My intentions were not to come on these forums and start trouble. Please do not question my validity of being in a sorority. As someone said earlier don't judge me just because you are not familiar with my campus and the greek life here. I am fairly new and I had some questions and concerns that I did not feel comfortable asking my sorority sisters.

I'm glad you're more comfortable with a group of complete strangers on the internet then you are with your sisters. Makes me really want to be in your sorority (whichever one it is).

Considering how strict sorority operations are becoming these days, and the highly judgmental factor that sometime plays on sorority girls--I see no problem in being afraid to ask your sorority sister about something as taboo as hazing as to avoid criticism and backlash.

If only she had a big brother in another fraternity, he'd be the perfect person to ask questions like that. It's too bad that even that is becoming too much for IFC organizations.

She continues to avoid the DZs who just want to verify her chapter and campus.

Why does she need to affirm her status in DZ? If there are DZs who are so uptight about the concept of asking a question regarding hazing over the internet--then by all means she should be wary of asking her own sisters.

You haven't seen the posts that got deleted/moved so you're not familiar with this chick's GC behavior. Sure, she's playing the martyr now, but that wasn't always the case.

FWIW, the DZs here are some of the classiest, open-minded women I know. They have no problems discussing alcohol and hazing related topics (it's been done before!) so I don't where this chick gets off painting them negatively, assuming they don't want to listen to her.

And furthermore, if her "sisters" want to know more about her because she has THEIR letters in her name, they're entitled to ask. The fact that she's ignored messages from her "sister" moderator gives many people (DZs and non-DZs alike) the impression that she's just shady and because of this, it's less likely that ANYONE , not the just the DZs, will take her seriously.
