ADPi on 'Flip this House'

I LOVE this show! Today, they were at Clemson. The guy who owns the company showed his Sigma Nu house. Then, they went to his niece who's an ADPi. He sent one of his employees to go and hang out with her, and they were HAZING her. She's too old to join as a collegian, and she wasn't even pledging. It was just kind of weird to see it. I'm really surprised they were allowed to use the letters and everything! I just wondered if anyone else caught it?

AXiDTrish 02-12-2006 09:11 PM

That one was a rerun....I saw it a month or so ago.....and I thought the same thing. I was surprised by what was being done....I only hope it was for the TV camera versus normal protocol....TV camera usually bring out a different or at least exaggerated side of peoples behavior.

CarolinaDG 02-12-2006 10:04 PM

I'm going to be on that show....

... Here's a little tip... Things that happen on reality TV are slightly "staged." Not really scripted, but a little staged.

NebraskaDelt 02-13-2006 10:46 AM

I saw that episode a month or so ago. I don't recall anything bad on there. Didn't she have to get phone numbers or something with a bad make up job? I didn't consider that bad. She thought it was fun.

AnonAlumna 02-13-2006 10:53 AM

It's NOT bad per se...but it IS considered hazing. Scavenger hunts are considered hazing. It also looked like they were drinking in their house. For us, that was a no-no. Like I said before, I'm just surprised they showed it on TV.

AznSAE 02-13-2006 11:08 AM

i saw this a few months ago too. i think they blurred out all the letters and i couldnt make out which house it was at the time. but i did know that the guy who started trademark properties is a sigma nu.

sunnydebs 02-15-2006 10:51 PM

The girls involved were put on national probation, I believe.

Depending on the network, I think the "staging" can get crazy. I have a friend who was on Room Raiders a couple of months ago for MTV and he said they told him everything to say and do. Almost completely scripted.

I hadn't heard about this before. I'm disappointed to think that one of our chapters would not only be doing something like that, but then think it was a good idea to let it be recorded for television. :(

If anyone finds out anything more about this, please post it.

HotDamnImAPhiMu 02-16-2006 08:39 AM

Almost all of it was blurred out - letters on picture frames, on the girls' shirts, etc. But if you were looking, and know the basics - i.e. that ADPi is on of a few sororities to have the colors blue and white, that they use the diamond, that they're a three letter sorority - you could pick up on it.

adpiucf 02-16-2006 10:30 AM

I saw an ADPi on Room Raiders. She was the "sorority girl" of the group and to my dismay, hanging on her door was a paddle with the letters blurred out. But it was painted blue and white and I could see that at the top it had the words <> sis (Diamond Sis)... so I knew it was ADPi.

We don't condone the giving or receiving or making of paddles, so I was a little disappointed to see a member on national tv with a paddle in full display. Clearly, the chapter hasn't done their job to follow our standards or the member knows and just doesn't care.

We're not allowed to do paddles but we do it anyways. They're so cute and it's actually the most exciting part of being a Phi, besides getting to know all the information thrown at you in 6-8 weeks. We made quattrefoils for our big sis's and I think they were ugly. I hate the fact that paddles are still "outlawed".

*slight hijack*

Was noone else here told that even if you are not wearing your letters, people will still know you're a DG? (or whatever your case may be!) Seems to me that noone would want to go on a show and do anything that their "mama" (i.e. EO, HQ, Nationals, whatever...) would not want them to see.... News flash, there are lots of people who find out what that person is, even if the letters are covered.

I heard that too. Once you wear letters a few time, people will remember. On campus at least.

Are you seriously?

I want to know if Ginger, one of the employees, was in a sorority. I think she went to Clemson.

ACK! Ginger is the reason why my husband & I hate this show.

We watch "Flip That House." Clever name, huh? It's on TLC & one of the Discovery channels..

ladypi 03-02-2006 10:26 AM

The ADPis from Clemson 100 percent were NOT put on national probation so please do not say things if you don't know that they are true. ADPis from Clemson are a strong chapter and people are making a big deal out of nothing that was edited for TV. I am a recent ADPi grad from Clemson and NEVER ONCE was hazing involved in anything we did, to set the record straight.

Also, Ginger is a very nice, honest, and genuine girl and would never say anything bad about someone she had never met. So just don't watch if you don't like someone YOU have never met.

WHOAH! Calm down! This IS a TV show, and when someone puts themselves out like that for the WHOLE world to see people are going to form opinions about them...true or not. Check out the Entertainment forum, you'll see it happens quite often where people dog on someone they have never met. kdonline also said that's why she and her husband DO watch another show.

Nobody made a big deal about it, it was up for discussion. The facts are it was obviously ADPi (the version I saw was NOT blurred). They were obviously drinking in the house. And, they were obviously doing an activity that IS considered hazing. (Although, the person that was being hazed is NOT a collegian, as I pointed out before.) Finally, I'm thrilled that this is such a strong chapter of ADPi. I'm just surprised there nationals allowed them on is all.

AznSAE 03-02-2006 11:39 AM

there was no hazing involved. the girl was not forced to do anything.

ladypi 03-02-2006 11:44 AM

There also aren't houses on Clemson campus, so they were not drinking in the house. Perhaps they were 21.

I didn't mean to jump on anyone, but when people are saying untrue things about people and an organization that you love, you want to set the record straight.

AnonAlumna 03-02-2006 11:48 AM

Thus the reason we stress everyone keeping their noses clean, so as not to get bent out of shape!

AGDee 03-02-2006 11:58 AM

And why we encourage our chapters to stay away from the reality shows. They are always edited to make things entertaining, but rarely does it make the chapter look good.

Dunno... her cousin's good friends with my sister.... She was a ZTA... but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I'll try to find out.

For the record, they cut out my entire part... it was on the other night. :-( No 15 minutes of fame for me.

...which is why I DO NOT WATCH THE SHOW.

And what's this about saying untrue things? I didn't say WHY we don't like Ginger.

Really, chill out!

If you'd like me to discuss why I do not like Ginger (who willingly became a PUBLIC FIGURE-google that if you dont know what it means), then feel free to start a related thread on Entertainment.

[thanks AnonAlumna!]

Awww!! Too bad.

Well tell us what "your part" was!!!!

Maybe it'll be on the blooper DVD! ;)

clemsontiger 03-02-2006 06:06 PM

Ok - I go to Clemson, know the girls, here are the dets:

The show's creater wanted his neice & her friends to be on the show which was being filmed on location in Clemson. The girls, sisters of ADPi, asked for permission from both ADPi and Clemson...AND WE'RE TURNED DOWN.

However, that didn't stop them from filming. After reviewing the episode, Clemson and ADPi did not like the way student and Campus life was portrayed on the show. Therefore, the girls were dismissed and are no longer associated with ADPi

James 03-03-2006 03:37 AM

If thats true, that sucks. Silly Nationals. Silly College.

learning2frat 03-03-2006 06:55 AM

This is a terrible tragedy. I can't believe that those ADPi girls were drinking alcohol. That's terrible. I would never do that to my chapter (if I ever get in one). There are few things worse than paddles with chapter names on them that I can think of. I shows hazing and we all know hazing is one of the most terrible things that a chapter can do besides throw parties with open bars where minors drink. Is there anything worse than hazing and underage drinking? I can't think of any. This is discusting and I'm probobly going to have nightmares tonight. I wish I never clicked the link to this thread :(

ADPi on flip this house

I'm a Lambda chi at Clemson. She actually got disassociated from A D Pi for the time being but I think they are working to get back in.
