Another new Greek system
I don't remember seeing anything about this but I found out from our IH today that we are presenting so I looked them up.

Always glad to hear about new systems.
Sounds like a lot of bureaucracy (of course, it is a MAJOR IMPORTANT campus). They must be ticked off that two GLOs wouldn't even make a presentation. |
Hmm Expansion Closed!:(
|
Good luck to all involved!
Another campus opening to Greek Life for the first time is LSU - Alexandria. Kappa Sigma has already established a colony there. |
i'm surprised they are not allowing general students to attend the presentations. when my campus expanded, i believe they gave each organization a short time to talk about their org with the general campus population.
|
Yay! Zeta is presenting.

Interesting development...next time I'm home I think I'll have to go check it out. PsychTau |
Good luck to Delta Gamma, and all other groups that will be presenting!
|
Has anyone heard anything? Their website says the announcement is going to be made this month. Kappa Sigma web site is already showing that they have placed a colony on campus.
P.S. This is my first post! Yeah! |
LaneSig,
Welcome to GC! Any New Updates. Only want Greek Growth! Schools Need Us!:) |
Thanks, Tom. I appreciate it.
I have been interested in what's going to happen at UA-Fort Smith. I graduated from Arkansas State. Arkansas is actually a fairly strong Greek state. UA of course, but Arkansas State and University of Central Arkansas both have fairly strong Greek systems. |
Great news! Good luck to everyone! The hope of another Gamma Phi chapter makes me smile.:)
|
Current Update
Formal invitations have been sent out to 2 sororities and 2 fraternities to colonize. The Greek Life Office is waiting for acceptance by the groups. They hope to make an announcement soon. The groups that presented were: Sororities Alpha Sigma Tau Delta Gamma Gamma Phi Beta Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternities Kappa Alpha Kappa Sigma Sigma Nu Have any members of these groups heard anything? |
Hm, funny that the Fraternitys that are being asked are all Southern Founded Grreks.

I thought that too, Tom. It will be interesting to see who ends up there.
Alpha Sigma Tau has two chapters active in the state: Uni. of Central Arkansas and Henderson State University. Delta Gamma had a chapter at Arkansas, but it closed in the 90's. (I dated a DG from there.) Gamma Phi Beta to my knowledge has never had a chapter in Arkansas. SmartBlonde would know more about that than me. Zeta Tau Alpha currently has chapters at Arkansas and Arkansas Tech. They had a chapter at Arkansas State that closed in '91. I was a good friend of many of the girls at the ASU chapter. The Greek Life office screwed them over in many different ways, that's what hurt them. Don't get me started. Kappa Alpha has chapters at Arkansas and Arkansas State. Sigma Nu has chapters at Arkansas and Univ. of Central Arkansas. Kappa Sigma has had a chapter at Arkansas for years and has new chapters at Arkansas Tech and Univ. of Central Arkansas. They tried to colonize at Arkansas State, but the colony folded after one semester. I'm not sure why. Whoever ends up there, I wish them the best of luck. |
KA got kicked off at Arkansas before rush started this year. To my knowledge Kappa Sigma at UCA is still around, they took in terms of numbers and not people.
|
LaneSig, DITTO that.
It is always nice to see Greeks expand! We as Greek Organizations always have to pick and choose where we will expand for many reasons. |

According to the latest NPC Bulletin, Gamma Phi Beta and Delta Gamma will be colonizing in 2007.
|
2007? Was that a misprint? Or does that mean that AST and ZTA will colonize in Fall on 2006 and then DG and Gamma Phi will come on to the campus the next year? Or maybe UAFS is going to wait and colonize in Spring '07 like UT Tyler did this past year. There are way too many questions going on in my head. I have checked the UAFS website, but they haven't made any announcements yet. Likewise, KA and Sigma Nu websites aren't saying anything. Kappa Sig website has had an announcement of a colony up since March or April, before UAFS said they would be sending out invites to colonize. Is the Kappa Sig colony a fact or wishful thinking? Will I stop asking rhetorical questions and ask questions that we know can be answered?:)

Funny, many HQs. also find out a lot on GC! So, I guess many on here are more in the know than Most of our Brothers and Sisters are!:) It would be nice if the supposition card is not played, but let Us know what the heck is going on I Our Own Greek Organizations. Is any body Out there with ears on, 10-04? |
Congratulations on the new colonies!
|
The SN website not saying anything is meaningless. The chapter listing/expansion parts of the site are not anywhere close to up-to-the-second. They're not too bad though.

The same Bulletin says nothing about any other group colonizing at any time. Spring 2007 is only a year from now and is the next school year.... |

SmartBlonde- In my haste to post all of the questions I forgot to thank you for supplying the info about which groups were colonizing. Thank you for being on top of it and getting us the information.
I also forgot to say congratulations to Delta Gamma and Gamma Phi Beta. Both are fantastic groups and will make a great start for Greek Life at UAFS. Double congrats to Gamma Phi Beta for establishing their first chapter in the state of Arkansas. Congrats to Delta Gamma for re-establishing their presence in Arkansas. ;) |
Okay, it's my conference period, so instead of grading papers I looked up the GLOs for the 8 current public universities in Arkansas and the 1 private college that has GLOs. UA - Fort Smith will be the 9th university when Delta Gamma and Gamma Phi Beta colonizes in 2007.

The GLOs in Arkansas have a very strong tradition. |
There was a Phi Mu chapter chartered in 1977 at Tech. I don't know when it closed.
|
Yes, AOII is colonizing at the University of Arkansas this fall.
|

The Phi Mu chapter at Tech has closed within the last 5-6 years I believe. Seems like it was still open when I lived in AR (I moved in 2004). When did the Tri Delta chapter close at UALR????? I didn't know that. It was open in 2004 when I left. Where did you go to school? I was a Reddie at HSU, and then got my Master's at UCA. It's kinda wierd to see that so few schools in AR have NPC and IFC groups. For some reason, I thought there were more, but I couldn't name them for you (outside of HBCUs). PsychTau |
I got my BA from Arkansas State University. Go Tribe! I listed Delta Zeta at HSU because their Greek Life website still had it listed. I guess I tapped into an old site. Tri Delt at UALR closed at the end of the 2004-2005 school year.
Absolutely nothing against DG and Gamma Phis, but I was surprised that AST and ZTA weren't selected. You would think that since AST already has 3 chapters in the state and ZTA has 2, UAFS would want groups that have some chapters close by to assist the new chapters. |
LaneSig, You made a great point in that GLOs may try to Colonize where there is activity by them in closer areas.
Many GLOs still have the idea that they Have To Be at Large Named Schools too. I know that LXA did return to Un Ark last year. Say for instance at My Chapter, there are many Chapters with in 2-2 1/2 hour drives. That does help in relationships with each other. "Road Trips":D Ks., Mo., Ok., and Ark. |

Point of information...the "Alpha" (read: first) Chapter of Chi Omega at Univ. of Arkansas is the Psi Chapter. We are very proud of our association with this campus. I made the pilgrimage to the "Motherland" in 1995 and loved every minute of my visit. |
Thanks! I remembered that the UA chapter isn't "Alpha" after I made the list, but forgot to go back and change it. What is the story behind the first chapter being named "Psi"?
PS - The Chi O's at Arkansas State rock! I hung out with a couple of the sisters. Very nice, down to earth, and funny. |
our IH told us this today-
"Gamma Phi Beta has accepted an invitation to colonize at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith in early 2007. We will be creating a brand new Greek system along with Delta Gamma and two fraternities: Sigma Nu and Kappa Alpha Order." Yea for us! And yea for UAFS for getting a greek community! |
