Bad Greek Online Companies
I know there are a few threads out there about companies that people have had problems with. I think a thread just naming the companies a short lil paragraph of their problem would be good and helpful to those searching for a company. Kind of like GC's Better Business Bureau.
So if you've had a bad experience with a company, post the company name, website address, and a short detail of your problem. |
GREAT idea. :D
|
Okay. I know I mentioned it in the other thread, but I'll post here too:
www.greekloft.com I ordered 2 items in October. I know the order went through because the $$$ left my bank account w/in 3 days. It is now April and I still haven't received my order! I emailed them twice asking about the status of my order and did not receive a response. I called several times and couldn't get through (said # was disconnected). Then, after FINALLY getting through, I spoke with someone in March who said my order would be shipped the next day and should arrive w/in a week....still waiting!!!! |
I always wondered about them. Their website never seems to be working.....makes me think twice about ordering from them.
|
I ordered a ZTA charm for my Italian bracelet off of eBay from Big Miami Charms. It broke because it was so poorly made so I called them up and they sent me out another - better- one. Super thrilled! So I take it to get it put on at the mall and it breaks! Now they won't return my phone calls and emails. Assholes!

i am very cautious about buying stuff from websites that don't work properly or looks like they were still built off of Geocities but moved their site to a domain name. You know what i am talking about, cheesy animated gifs everywhere, no where stating that your credit card info is safe or what security service is used, etc...
|
Never again
I'm never buying anything again from Senusret or even Senusret I, the evil twin.
|
i haven't had any problems with buying off of ebay. there was a company...it's greek to me that sold alot of stuff on there. so, i'm thinking i wouldn't have any problems if i ordered from them. haven't had any so far.

Well, that just sucks! :( Damn them! Oh well, looks like I'll be finding somewhere else to buy stuff now.

Alphabet Greek
I posted this in another thread, but basically my problem with them was that they messed up on a lot of orders (put the wrong letters on, wrong size, wrong pattern, wrong color, etc.) and it took them a long time to correct the wrong orders and they didn't have them ready when they said they would. |
somethinggreek.com
There website is unsecure mine along with my mother's credit card info was stolen off of it. We both got huge bills that weren't our charges. It was a huge mess. As for the company it's good but I call them up for now on. I'll never buy from their website ever again! |

My sisters and I used to always order from there a lot and they were very good, we never had any problems with our orders.

Every year they had made at least one mistake on our rush t-shirts. And we have let them slide b/c they were little mistakes and didn't really ruin the shirts but this year they were completely obnoxious. Here's the story: We went about ordering shirts (admittedly) very late this year. So our rush chair called Greek stores specifically asking how soon they could have 24 shirts done. Something Greek asked her when we needed them by and they told us they could have them made by then (without even paying for them to be a rush order). So she tells them we want Hunter Green baby tees and how many we want in each size. They call her several days later and said we dont have hunter green baby tees or XS baby tees but we have 17 hunter green t-shirts in particular sizes. We are pissed b/c they waited so long to tell us but at this point we don't have any other options cuz it's the last minute so we're like fine. We go to the store to pick up the shirts and it gets even worse. First, they made a mistake on the front design of the shirt and even more ridiculous, they completely forgot the design that was suppose to be on the back. We're now supremely pissed and instead of being apologetic he start's blaming us. "That's what happens when you order last minute, mistakes happen when you don't look at the proof, and everyone knows they don't make hunter green baby tees." They told us they could make the shirts by that date, they never sent us a proof (and the most egregious mistakes had nothing to do with proofing the design anyway), and if everyone but us knows they don't make hunter green baby tees or XS baby tees why did it take several days for them to inform us of that. They offered to print up the back of the shirts during the next half hour (if it takes them that long they really shouldn't be whinign about how much we rushed them). We said we would just take the shirts as they were and they adjusted the priced accordingly. We said we didn't think we would do business there again. And the workers response was good, we don't want your business. Thanks to their bad service our IGC rejected a proposal to make them the official Greek Store for IGC shirts. So please don't use Something Greek - they're rude and obnoxious! |
i'd echo the above post about somethinggreek.com
A lot of the stuff i've purchased from them has been of terrible quality. I recommend Joe Toga and GreekGiftsEtc. I've had good luck and good communication with both. I tend to shy away from the TERRIBLY overprice greek101 and the like. There is so much mark up on their items, it's ridiculous, they're not even near reasonable prices. |

Your only two posts have been promoting somethinggreek.com An ordinary customer would not know about personnel changes. I'm sure you had a wonderful experience with them. They pay you to say so ;) |

I like Joe Toga and Sorority specialities Quote:

Joe Toga IS great. Their website is sketchier than it should be -- makes them look unreliable, I think.
|
Has anyone ever used designergreek.com? They look to have the cheapest stitched-letter stuff that I can find so I think I'm going to order from them.

Collegiate Connection (or Corner?) in Bowling Green (Ohio) is absolutely fabulous. I'm on a first name basis with the lady that works there, Judy. Letters get made and sent within a week or two and it's pretty cheap.
|
I just looked at designergreek and they are anything but cheap! I think I could buy cheaper from even Greek101.
|
What annoys me about Greek101 is how they have a minimum quantity that you have to order of each item. I tried to get a gift from there for my friend who's in an NPC and I found myself saying, "I don't think she'd want 3 of the same picture frame/pillow/mug/etc..."
|
This is a great site http://thegreekboutique.zoovy.com/
|
GreekGear.com is really expensive. I was getting a present for my friend, and something that cost $10 everywhere else cost $16 on their site.

While not a company per-se, avoid "greaks" on Ebay. While (s)he has good luck most of the time, if you have a complaint (as I did), you'll be harassed and blackmailed with bad feedback even if you do exactly what you're supposed to as a buyer. Both items and shipping are put at an unreasonable rate for the item being sent.

I had a bad experience with Greek Loft also. I ordered twice from www.stitchzone.com, and I was very happy. My order arrived when they said it would, and their stuff is pretty affordable (though they don't have that much stuff so you're kinda limited). And when they messed up on my second order, they made my t-shirt over again and shipped it out right away and I got it just a few days later.

Hi, I'm a Lambda Chi...I'm also one of those "Greek Licensed Products" guys you've seen online and in mailers sent to your chapter houses. In my case, my products are newsletters/event promotion and address list management services.
The reason you see some companies (e.g. Campus Classics) offer just a select few organizations is that we're only licensed to work with certain groups. We pay royalties to the specific organization for each t-shirt/chair/pool table felt/newsletter/etc. that we sell. For the record, other firms aren't licensed. What's the difference between the two? Well, GLP members have to uphold a strict code of ethics re: what we produce. We can't put out materials that are deemed to be sexist, misogynistic, anti-gay, racist, etc. By the same token, we're not allowed to portray the "frat stereotype" (drunk guy hanging onto a keg). If you're not licensed, you can pretty much do whatever you want...and they do. I've seen some...let's say "interesting" stuff @ various conferences. That sort of thing wouldn't pass the "mom test" (in other words, what would your mom think if you wore a particular shirt?). The GLP designation isn't necessarily as good as something from the BBB, but it's a pretty good indicator that they're reputable. Good luck! Interfraternally, Bill F. |

NEED ADVICE
I have been in the process of setting up a potential order with thegreekshop.com. Everyone I've asked has said they're really good and great business people. But, check this out.
This all happened within less than 24 hours, altogether. A number of emails were exchanged in which I made it very clear that I needed to clear some things up before proceeding with the order. No money has been exchanged and the price has not even been agreed upon. What's your opinion? 1) I receive one email with a lot of information regarding my specifications on the item and, as part of the reply, I read: "Please note that your order will not begin until payment is received. Once payment is received and your order is processed, an invoice will be mailed to you with production time/shipping information... ...Your quote will remain on file for 14 days or until payment is received, whichever is earlier. To place your order, please submit your request and remit a MONEY ORDER in US$ made payable to University Apparel, Inc." *At this point, I'm assuming that nothing is being done yet. 2) In the same email message, I was quoted a price of $150 (above what the item was costing already) for doing a particular crest design for me. 3) In my reply to that email, I said I'd rather the design be left out. *The price tag was a little steep for me. 4) In a reply from the company, I got the following message: "Based on your request, we have already begun (putting in over 3 hours of work) and almost completed the crest given the artwork we have obtained. We just have to check the wording -- to make certain the machine can embroider that small, so we need to run off a sample. However, if you desire, we can stop where we are and we will discard the work we have started, but at least half the cost of the set-up would be required for the work done thus far." *I was ! That's $75!! 5) I replied stating that they could go ahead with the crest design since they had already put forth so much effort (so as to not mess it up for future sorors who want to order from them), but I attached the following comment to that portion of my message: "I need also to bring to your attention that the Terms of Service are somewhat misleading (I thought we were putting the specifics together and the order would be placed upon payment or at least submission of the deposit): 1. A minimum of 50% deposit is required on all orders; a PRICE QUOTE does NOT constitute an order. Price quotes will be kept on file for 14 days or until payment is received, whichever is earlier." *The message I received previously clearly stated that it was a "price quote" So, am I completely crazy or are they trying to rip me off? |
Well...I got a reply this morning and they were finally nice! The design ended up not working and they're not charging me for the work done. So, I guess a soft reply got a good response.
:) Very cool! |

what should I do???
Ok...I placed an order with a company four days ago and paid in full online (through paypal). I checked the paypal transaction and payment was received.
Here's the problem. I have not heard ANYTHING from the company. Nothing to say the order was received or that it would be delayed or anything. I've emailed the company, the individual (from the email addy I saw on paypal) and contacted them another way. Still nothing. What should I do? (P.S. It's supposed to be a Christmas gift but it's definitely short notice. However, if I had known they'd be like that, I would have ordered elsewhere.) |
May I ask what company it was? 4 days is certainly too long to go by without acknowledging.
The good thing about paying with paypal is that you're supposed to have some protection. |
