Miss America 2006

It's coming up next Saturday. Are there any Greeks in this yrs pageant? The affiliations aren't listed in the bios this year

AXiDSarahJ 01-13-2006 10:38 PM

I read that Miss Kentucky is a member of Alpha Delta Pi at Eastern Kentucky University

There is a thread around here (maybe in Chit Chat? I just searched here, and it's not here) about this, but I only mention that because

Is it true that the Miss America Pagent is going to be on CMT later this month (January)?!?!?! Someone told me that today, and I couldn't believe it!

ragtimerose 01-13-2006 10:50 PM

Miss Louisiana, Molly Causey, is a Kappa Delta.

Miss America will be telecast next Saturday, January 21, on CMT.

Thanks so much for the list! It's always fun to know who's who. :)

The only thing is that Miss California who's a member of "Alpha Chi" - that's an honor society. I had heard of it before so I checked to make sure they had a chapter at California Baptist U.

Okay, I'll take her out. It was written as if it was a local - that's why I threw it in. The other one whom I wasn't sure about was Erika Powell, from Furman. There's no mention of a GLO, but the system pretty strong there (isn't it?).

And of course, which GLO Kristi Glakas of Virginia represents!

I don't know a thing about Furman. I googled her name and didn't come across anything sorority-ish. Interestingly though, she went to Bob Jones Academy for high school.

honeychile 01-14-2006 02:35 AM

And I can't find Kristi Glakas anywhere under GMU!!

The Bob Jones makes me think that Erika Powell wasn't in a sorority, though.

Is it me, or has the number REALLY decreased? Or, are delegates just not listing affiliations as much?

Don't know if they're purposely not listing affiliations, but in the local program I volunteer with, there's only so much room in the contestant profile sheets they fill out. The pageant directors encourage the girls to list their affiliations and involvement, but they also stress that they should limit them to community and academic only.

I'm not saying that's the norm for everyone, just how it is in the Miss Hawaii program.

Beryana 01-14-2006 09:15 AM

Another thing to remember is that some local programs are made up of high school seniors (our local pagent is - but we also do not have a college in our town)

hannahgirl 01-14-2006 11:32 AM

Miss Ohio (Marlia Fontaine) went to The University of Akron (and my high school) but she never joined a GLO.

cutiepatootie 01-14-2006 12:36 PM

Well this current Miss America was very lucky that she got to extend her reign out a few more months because of the network wrangling to find a home....... What Sorority was Deidre Downs in?

LXA SE285 01-14-2006 04:03 PM

Deidra Downs was an AXO at Virginia but finished school at Samford, where they don't have a chapter.

Tom Earp 01-14-2006 05:25 PM

There should be More GLOs in the list as They are The Creme Del a Creme!:)

honeychile 01-14-2006 09:14 PM

Here's the matching thread in the Chit Chat Forum.

OleMissGlitter 01-14-2006 10:01 PM

Gosh it looks like just about all NPC groups and a great local are represented! Impressive! GO GREEK!

ASUADPi 01-14-2006 11:26 PM

Of course I'll root on Miss Kentucky (GO ADPI!!!!) :D, but I figure our odds are much greater for a Greek to possibly take the crown.

(I'm thinking positive here)

dznat187 01-14-2006 11:36 PM

Miss Pennsylvania, Nicole Brewer is a graduate of my undergrad, Millersville University and is a great woman. unfortunately, none of the greek orgs at Millersville can claim her. She was a member of National Broadcast Society as well as a member of the broadcasting honoraray which uses greek letters. There is no local named Sigma Lambda Phi at Millersville though, so this is an inaccuracy. I'll be rooting my fellow marauder on. She has a great chance and is a very upstanding woman. Totally love her and hope she wins.

On this Miss America thread, a local claims her. Is that the broadcasting honorary?

PinkSigma3 01-15-2006 11:55 AM

I know there are a few locals at Millersville. I have a bunch of girls I work with that are in locals. I'll try to ask them which one they are in.

Sigma Phi Delta is a local sorority at Millersville...it's possible someone messed up the letters?

dznat187 01-15-2006 12:12 PM

yes, but unless she joined and was disafiliated during her last two years......i was very active in the greek community there and she was not a member during my two years ( i was on panhell and had rosters). and our greek community is so small, that most everyone knows all the people in other chapters.

it is possible that she transfered to Millersville from another school and was a member of a local there. I don't remember her mentioning that, but it is possible. I google searched tje local's name and there is a chapter at Dusquesne. she may have went there before MU and was a sig lamb there. i'll have to ask her to be sure. of course, not until after the pageant, I'm sure she is way to busy to check her email right now!

I just remembered, the communication honorary is Alpha Epsilon Rho. they called it AERho.

Added: PinkSigma3, what do you do with the locals there? Just curious. Very few people actually know of MIllersville! gotta love amish country right?!

dznat187 01-15-2006 12:27 PM

Sigma Lambda Phi is also an international honor society based on leadership and service/humanitarianism. she def could be in that, as she is very active with the community, etc.

RedRoseSAI 01-15-2006 02:20 PM

There are usually several SAIs in the pageant every year. Either this is a slim year for us, or they didn't list their affiliation. :(

CrimsonTide4 01-19-2006 05:01 PM

Miss Virgin Islands is a member of DSQ.

Not listed in her profile but her line sister just informed us. :)

It would make sense... a lot of singers/musicians because of the talent portion. :)

MSKKG 01-19-2006 11:43 PM

Miss South Carolina was a talent preliminary winner last night!

NutBrnHair 01-21-2006 06:20 PM

Are we all ready for tonight's show?

SmartBlondeGPhB 01-21-2006 06:59 PM

Two things I noticed...........

Miss Virginia should have gotten a better picture, she looks plastic.

A few of them have performed at the Pacific NW Ballet here in Seattle......

But no, I won't be watching. Toby Keith's a bit more interesting.....

kddani 01-21-2006 08:12 PM

bump. It's on in 45 minutes.

KatieKate1244 01-21-2006 09:03 PM

They're doing the introductions right now. I can't hear the contestents over the background music.

Why does everybody's hair look greasy?

jojapeach 01-21-2006 09:10 PM

I knew it wasn't just me that couldn't hear. Most of the contestants were well-spoken during their introductions, so I think there may be some kinks to work out. Some of the hair looks...interesting, but all of it isn't greasy. Definitely self-styled but not greasy.

I loved seeing Miss Wyoming sign her introduction!

I can happily cheer for Miss Georgia because she's a Georgia Bulldog!

JennRN 01-21-2006 09:14 PM

I got sucked in...what can I say.
It's a very unfortunate year for hair and dresses I must say. Bleh.

Miss Oregon is really pretty-like, naturally pretty, compared to some of the contestants who are very "pagenty".

Gotta cheer for Miss Texas though-and she had a cute dress on!

kddani 01-21-2006 09:35 PM

Greeks (known) in the top 10: (if you're on tape delay, beware of spoiler).........

The dresses are awful this year. Dreadfully tacky.

JennRN 01-21-2006 09:50 PM

Ok, Miss Pennsylvania is very pretty, but I couldn't stop staring at how much her ribs were sticking out! Eat a sandwich already!!

I'm taking the bottle of self tanner away from Miss D.C. as punishment for abuse of it.

honeychile 01-21-2006 09:58 PM

Meow!!

I've been watching this pagent since I was about four, maybe five. This is absolutely the most boring and strangest one yet! And not because of the Las Vegas move - the host, the slow pace, and the women.

The winner is definitely going to depend on the judges' personal views on glamour. I already picked my winner, I'm just trying to figure out the other four!

uksparkle 01-21-2006 10:03 PM

Miss Georgia and Miss PA are my favorites. Miss Georgia's shoes looked like stilts! Uh oh Miss PA almost tripped.
