Women's Size 00
Okay, I have seen this on a rush thread today, read this in another entertainment thread and heard it mentioned in an episode of Desperate Housewives..
What is a women's size 00? How is it different than a size 0? At stores such as Petite Sophisticate (which I am REALLY going to miss, BTW), the tags may say 00, but they are just a size 0 with a leading 0, i.e. a size 2 is tagged as a 02. Okay, spill, what is a size 00 and where do you find them? Is it a child's or junior's size? :p Silver |
A size 00 is a different size, as far as I know...even smaller than a 0.
|
Well according to my aunt Abercrombie has size 00, I remember he talking about it and she was just as confused as you at first. I never shopped there but her daughter does and she's about 12 and thin for her age. If she were to be in the high school age range she'd be considered tiny! Hope that helps!
|
Banana Republic also has a size 00, some of their spring 2006 things are in it. I don't know any adults that small, so I will reserve comment.
|
It's the size below 0. It's mostly found in junior oriented brands and stores. There are some women's brands that have it, but not many. I'm not a large girl by any means (I'm like a 2-3), but I can barely get my leg in anything that size. :p
|
Seriously, if you're a 00, you need to have more solid food in your life. If you find this offensive, go eat a cheeseburger :p
|
It's what happens when vanity sizing gets out of control.
And yeah, it's basically a size -2 in most stores. (Not all, as the original poster pointed out.) |
I don't care what it is but I demand that my women be 6 feet tall, be size 00, and be breeders HAR HAR HAR

Oh Craiggers, you are so funny. Let's go listen to some bad techo. |
I knew a girl that wore a size 00. She had no boobs, no butt, no hips, basically she looked like a pole and I'm not being mean just honest.

EXACTLY! Most of those stores (Banana, Gap, J Crew, etc.) have vanity sizing. I guarantee anyone who's a J Crew 6 will NOT be, say, a Prada 6. |

Size 00's don't have those birthin' hips. |
When I worked retail, we found this pair of teeny tiny jeans mixed in with the regular junior ones so we sent them upstairs to the kids' department where we assumed they belonged. Later that day, the jeans came back--they weren't kids' after all, they were a junior size 00! I hadn't even known there was such a size before that. No kidding...these pants could've fit a second-grader.

Women who wear 00 have a very small frame...they're usually really petite (in height) too... They exist, especially in Asia.

Can I just state, for the record, that A&F sizing is madness? I wear a small in skirts there, and given the way I am shaped (i.e. I HAVE AN ASS), there is no way I should ever wear a size small skirt.

I have two friends who both wear a size 00. However, they're both hardly 5' tall, and weigh a good 90 poubds soaking wet.

I don't understand how you can have a size 0 let alone a 00.
I understand that some women are very small, don't get me wrong, but size 0 is just ridiculous. 0=nothing. How can you have a size 0?? What's wrong with being a size 1 or is that just too fat for some women? |

I think some people just don't want to accept that they're a larger size and want to be "smaller" even when they're not. Even then, sizes are getting bigger and bigger. I used to take the second smallest size in most clothing stores (before I lost all my baby fat) and then the smallest. Now, even the smallest size is getting a little loose...and I haven't lost any weight. I also find that a lot of brands from Europe don't make size 00 or 0, even when they are listed in "American" sizes. The smallest I can find at Zara is a 2 (and that's rare), ditto with Mexx. I think the smallest size at H&M is 4. |

I wish that sizes were universal. Stores may carry a size 2, but one company's size 2 may be equivalent to another company's size 4. It would be great if clothing had some standards. Women need to get over their need for vanity sizing. Besides, if we all wore clothes that actually fit us properly, sizing wouldn't matter because we would all look good, no matter what the tag said. |
It's all psychology. They think a size 8 woman is more likely to shop at Banana Republic because she fits into their size 4 skirts.
|
Part of the issue is that younger and younger girls are shopping at "grown up" stores. I would have never gone into Wet Seal or something of the like when I was 10 - now they do it all the time. These sizes are for them. (Or should be.)

Whoever wears this size needs to eat a Big Mac. /end hijack/ |

Before my mom had me, she wore what in the 70s a size 7/8. She's 5'5 and weighed 100-105 at that time. I guess that's probably a 1/2 by 2006 standards. |

If anyone needs vanity sizing it's the plus sized girls, but guess what you don't have that. Sizes start at a 14 or a 1X and go from there. The closest I've seen to vanity sizing in a plus sized clothing store is an X. |
Slightly off topic, but I hate how maternity clothes are sized. They tell you that you'll need the same size as you wear in normal clothes but that isn't true. I'm 2-4 when not pregnant and I was swimming in the maternity 4, even with my huge stomach.

Whether I'm a size 4 or 14 or 44. If that's the size I am, that's the size I am. If the clothes fit properly and I look good, then I don't care what the tag says. No one sees but me (or Mr. Pi Phi, and he doesn't care what the tag says), so why should I care what the tag says? |

I know a girl who wears a size 00...she's TINY..but healthy. And trust me...a size 00 (at least with this girl) a size 4 would be gi-normous on her!! A size 0 is big on her...and a size 1 is baggy.

Abercrombie sizes are so wack. I have a sweater from my freshman year of high school that is a M. It was HUGE on me then and since I've gained a ton of weight, it is now a little snug. I have a sweater from my senior year that is an XL that I am giving away because it is too small - smaller than the M. I don't even try to fit in their clothes anymore.

If there was vanity sizing for plus sizes (say a size 4 was actually a size 14) I'm sure that would make me feel good as it would many other plus size women. But there is, nor do I really think there needs to be. I'm not really explaining myself well am I? Please know that it was not meant as an insult to anyone, only that, generally speaking, plus size women are more self conscious with their sizing than say a smaller women and vanity sizing would be more appropriate for plus size clothing (generally speaking of course). |
