Do you have a fire truck
We do not, I heard we used to, but someone crashed it a long time ago.
I think Oklahoma has one. The chapter advisor at the University of Northern Iowa collects old fire equipment. I think he has one or two restored firetrucks.
We (Theta Omicron, Indiana State) do not, but i do know that Iota Delta (Rose Hulman) has 2, i think one tanker truck and one later truck.
no fire truck.....
Pitt has one!
Presbyterian College (Mu) has one. They just got it a little while ago and are very proud of it. It's a beaut!
Oklahoma chapter has one... its not in good working order though.
We have one(University of North Dakota, Zeta Rho), we ride it in our homecoming parade every year.
That's correct. We (Rose-Hulman, Iota Delta), currently have 2 trucks. The pumper truck is in decent condition and currently has work being done on several parts to improve it. We have purchased large gold lettering that says Pi Kappa Alpha and PIKE, and placed that on the sides of the pumper truck.

A firetruck would be such a blast for tailgating next fall
We've talked about it before at my chapter...but there just wouldn't be anywhere for it to be parked...
there are enough of us at UofL with off campus housing I suppose we could find somewhere to park one, I just think it would be fun to have
Pike at ULM (University of Louisiana at Monroe) has one. Can you reveal why the fire truck is a symbol without getting into secret info? I've just always wondered.
It's not a secret.
Around the turn of the century, Theta chapter members at (now Rhodes College) were volunteer firemen and the chapter actually has its own truck. Several other Pike chapters copied the theme, but after World War II the thing really took off. At some time in the 1950s more than half of the Pike chapters had their own fire trucks. In Oklahoma, chapters met for their Regional Conference and had firetruck races! Insurance concerns have eliminated many of the old trucks (we have a garnet & gold 1938 Chevvy at Florida State but the undergrads aren't allowed to operate it). However, you still see chapters have their annual group photo taken on or around a firetruck. It's an old tradition and just for fun. |
Thanks! You've solved a mystery for me.

Fire Truck available in NC
Gents- I have a 1981 Pierce Pumper available for tailgating, parties, rushes or whatever else you can think of. I'm in the Raleigh, NC area and just did a tailgate at Duke Sept 1st. You can check out my website at www.2-the-rescue.com for more information. Would be happy to provide service to any of the local Pike chapters. Call John, thanks.

Firetruck
We have one (Zeta Iota, Old Dominion University.) We use it for basketball games, rush events, parades (Homecoming, St. Paddy's) and pretty much anything else that we want to get some pr at. We are getting a football team soon so hopefully we'll have it at that. For pics from our last event check out http://www.hrpikes.com/gallery/tailgate101307_2.html

eta chapter at tulane used to have a truck but then katrina took care of that
We have one at Zeta Alpha Chapter of Kettering University. It's old, but a great part of our landscape. It's right out in the front yard!
*crash*
The Gamma Phi chapter has a fire truck (WFU). They bring it to all the home football game tailgates. I always wondered where they kept it and I finally found out; our school lets them store it with all the facilities trucks. You can kind of see their truck in the background of this pic. I wil try to find a better pic. http://groups.wfu.edu/Phi-Mu/tailgate.jpg |
Alpha Epsilon over at NC STATE has a fire truck!!!
The NCSU fire truck is def. the shit. Apparently the pikes in the olden days would drive it around drunk through the Raleigh, NC area and the University made us take out the engine from the truck. It stands in our yard though and definitely looks good.

My husband's chapter, Delta Iota at Marshall University, had one, but I'm not sure if they still do. In my day (the waning months of the Carter administration!) it ran and I got to ride it on sorority bid day with my new Sigma Kappa sisters! I also saw my husband for the first time that day, too - he was the social chairman and was tending bar (drinking age was 18 then) but we didn't get together until we both graduated. Good times! In fact, my older son will be at Marshall this fall and I'd love to see him pledge ...
We have one here at Linfield College in Oregon, it is a Chemical truck and we just got it back into working condition again. We are trying to get the funds to build a garage for it to stay at the house on campus.
