The Kinda-Weekly ER Thread

After being frustrated one too many times about ER not being able to fit into the search engine, I thought to start this thread. It's simply a continuation of this thread When you want to discuss ER, try the kinda-weekly phrase, and I think we'll all be more satisfied.

Okay, tonight's episode:

I absolutely loved the way the pregnancy issue was handled! I really had my doubts that it could be so skillfully written, but I was quite pleased. Even hard-core pro-life people had to like the phrase, "giving God a second chance" - that, or I can expect the lightening bolt at any time!

I still don't care for Ray Liotta's character, and admit that I was half hoping that the police would rough him up. ;) And I think we were robbed on the Neela/Gallant preview that never happened.

Any other thoughts?

honeychile 01-06-2006 02:12 AM

Wow - I hadn't thought about Sam's reaction! THAT will be something to behold!!

I was talking to another friend last week about ER, and we both agreed that, if they EVER decide to cancel ER, we hope that they do a reunion-type show first. After all, the worst ER is better than the best of any other show!

thetalady 01-07-2006 12:41 AM

I am glad to finally have a place to say this... this is at least the SIXTH unplanned pregnancy on this show... this MEDICAL DOCTOR show where you would damn well think that they have at least heard of safe sex and protection. I am so sick of this happening, particularly on ER.

Unregistered- 01-07-2006 02:29 AM

Between the ER on TNT in the morning and the ER on the WB's Daytime in the afternoon...I think I'm good with my daily ER fix.

It's funny because they're back to the beginning on TNT -- kinda cool to see the original cast like that again: Dr. Greene still married (and alive, obviously); Carol and Doug not dating yet; Benton picking on "Mr. Carter" as he was just starting out then.

While the new episodes still keep me entertained...the original stuff is just way better.

honeychile 01-07-2006 03:06 AM

The first 4-5 seasons were DEFINITELY the best, but isn't that true for almost all the tv shows?

My question: I have the first year on dvd, and now I've seen seasons 4 & 5 available. What happened to 2 & 3?

ASUADPi 01-08-2006 03:38 AM

Okay question for all those super ER fans.

Brianna here pretty much stopped watching once Mark was killed off. I think I saw like one whole episode in between then, til now.

I saw the episode in December where Abby announced she was pregnant (what was so funny is that I only caught the end of the episode and Abby was saying she needed to talk to him and outloud I said "oh I bet she tells him she's pregnant" and she did). My question, stems from that.

On some fanfiction I read online the authors stated that Abby and Luka were only dating for like two weeks, is this true? Because seriously, how the hell could anyone know they were pregnant that quickly. Or did they have a "random" night like a month prior and then got together? I'm very confused.

I did watch Thursday's episode and I loved the way they handled it. They (the writers) did something similar when Carol found out she was pregnant.

I loved how Luka, even though he's Catholic, so therefore most likely opposes abortion, was supportive of her choice, even though he wanted the baby.

Honestly this storyline is the only reason I'm watching the show again. I really could care less about the other characters. I mean Weaver would be the only "original" cast member left and she wasn't even an "original one" in the first place (she joined the show in season 2).

On a mini ER tangent. I bought season 4 and was watching the episode Sharp Relief (FYI mr. Hottie George Eads guest stars in this episode. Woo hoo) and Doug asks Mark to be his best man. Obviously showing that they have a pretty tight relationship. Please tell me in gods name, why the heck Doug and Carol didn't come to Mark's funeral? They weren't even mentioned. I mean I seriously doubt it would have been difficult to get Julianna and George on the phone and say "hey Anthony's character is gonna die in this episode, we're having a funeral, we would love for you guys to be there. No lines, just your bodies". Seriously, shooting Julianna and George "at the funeral" would have taken at most like an hour.

Sorry, one of my ER pet peeves.

jubilance1922 01-08-2006 10:50 AM

So I fell asleep on that episode, can someone tell me what was going on with Gallant and Neela?

About Abby and Luka, I think everyone was surprised when he and Abby hooked up again. He was dating and living with Nurse Sam and her son for a while...and I didn't see the episode where they break up, so I don't know why they broke up. All of a sudden Abby and Luka are getting in on. Don't know if it was really two weeks, but it was really sudden.

And about Mark's funeral. I was really pissed that they couldn't even bring in Doug and Carol. Benton was already off the show, but even he showed up!

Perhaps George is too good for the small screen these days?

honeychile 01-08-2006 11:17 PM

Where did y'all find the other seasons, Best Buy? I was avoiding it during Christmas because I always end up buying too much there!

And yes, I think Doug & Carol SHOULD have been at Mark's funeral, and make the occasional guest appearance! But of course, I'm neither of their agents.

ASUADPi 01-08-2006 11:30 PM

I actually bought mine at Walmart

I've seen it at Walmart, Best Buy, and Costco.

As with my other DVDs, I usually wait a while until it gets on Overstock.com and it's super super cheap...just like my Gilmore Girls DVDs.

honeychile 01-09-2006 01:33 AM

Overstock! I hadn't thought about that! Thanks, OTW!!

And thanks, Brianna - I'll try WalMart, too!

honeychile 01-13-2006 12:00 AM

Okay, fellow fans - what's the verdict? Do Gallant & Neela stay together or what?

And Luka & Abby - how hot is that?!

darling1 01-13-2006 12:54 AM

I am so upset that I missed ER tonight. Our moving truck was supposed to arrive today, but won't arrive until tomorrow. I've been completely out-of-touch with the world since Sunday.

What happened on ER tonight?

I hope you got moved okay. Long story short....it was this year's episode with the famous actor/patient. James Woods played a patient with end-stage ALS. It was by far one of the best ER has done. It had lfashbacks with how the cast of ER interacted with this patient over the years. There even was a mention about Dr. Greene's funeral.

I wish I could type more, but with a broken wrist....this typing stuff is hard.

Whoa - how did that happen?

Yes, practically the whole episode was based on James Wood's character's gradual degeneration due to ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).

ASUADPi 03-24-2006 11:04 AM

Neela was at a conference of sorts where she was presenting. She called Ray and had him fax some stuff (that was in her locker) to her. Then at the end (of the episode) she tells him she's moving out.

Bad knees gave out at the hockey game, I fell and put my arm behind me to catch me. Obviously awhile ago. Now doing physical therapy for it and my knees. Thanks for asking.

If I remember correctly, one of Ray's patients last night "attempted" suicide in order not to go to his best friend's wedding the next day. Apparently, he was in love with the girl and was worried that he would not be able to NOT say anything.

As for Ray and Neela, it was obvious in the beginning how being roomates had grown into something more. I think Neela realized it while having drinks with the Debanco.

Correct me if I am wrong!

i would have to say that i think you're right!

honeychile 05-11-2006 10:27 PM

NO!!!!!!!!

I feel like such an idiot, crying because of Dr. Gallant. Poor Neela - her head is messed up enough. But maybe this is the way they're going to introduce her & Ray as an item?

Anyone else notice that Abby is starting to show - big time?

AGDee 05-11-2006 10:56 PM

I second that thought. What a shocker.

Senusret I 05-11-2006 11:00 PM

This really sucks.

ZTABullwinkle 05-12-2006 12:10 AM

I hate to say I thought something totally different was going to happen tonight. Never saw this one coming. (Actually, I heard it first, while getting sick in the bathroom.) I had hoped I heard wrong, when I ran into to watch the TV (always runs behind the shower TV/radio). WOW! But I call next season's plot between Neela and Ray hooking up!

Why is is ER always makes the last episodes of the season so jaw-dropping? I can't even begin to imagine who is lost next week.

Off to mourn Gallant.

BTW. As upset as I was to hear Pratt's "outburst" about the child killing his father, war and everything (at first), since I thought it was a "statement"....I realized it was a realistic way to show the frustration felt by many medical workers in the ER to everyday situations they are dealt with. I know I have said those things myself.

Next week's finale will be horrific for me - the last military funeral I attended was for my daddy. So beautiful, so touching, so heartrending.

Buy your kleenex now!

Have a whole box of them for next week. Tonight, david's shirt sufficed. Poor man, here we are - trying to mend some fences broken over the weekend, and er was on. At least he understood!

squirrely girl 05-12-2006 02:11 AM

that was soooooooooooooooo twisted. i liked gallant...

Taualumna 05-12-2006 10:23 AM

I only caught the very end, when Neela was watching Gallant's video to her. Made me cry :(

honeychile 05-18-2006 11:09 PM

ACK!!

Unbelievable! They did it again!!

Gallant's funeral - too similar to my daddy's, I was sobbing. I do wish that you could hear what the soldier says as he hands the flag to the widow, though - it was the one thing that kept us sane. "Please accept this flag presented on behalf of the President and a grateful nation as a token of appreciation for your loved one’s honorable and faithful service." Neela's reaction & the flashbacks made it even more real.

Sam's Ex - what a loser! What man holds his ex-wife AND child hostage?!

Kovach fighting to stay alive while Abby faints just outside the room - good writing! Although, was Abby having a miscarriage? I really, really hope not!!

Jerry being wounded - :(

Just like ZTABullwinkle said, nobody does a season finale like ER!!

Senusret I 05-18-2006 11:18 PM

I really do mean this.....that was the best season finale ER has ever done!

Okay....I am going to be pretty ticked if Jerry dies next season! They already wrote him off the show in earlier seasons....now they SHOOT HIM! GRRR!!! At least he saved the kid's life. I can say now, that I FINALLY like Morris and understand why he was Chief Resident.

Luka and Abby is the one I definitely will be wanting to know about. I have heard that Sally Field is coming back next season, so I am going to "assume" Abby lives. I don't see that same fate for her baby. As for Luka, he was doing a darn good job being so active with a tub in his throat. (From medical experience, I know that a person's gag reflex would have led them down one track toward coughing up the tube. Not Luka!)

I wish they would decide whether they are going to utilize Carrie or not. Ever since the "lesbian" storyline, her character has gone to dullsville.

I have so much more I could say, and want to say....but I look like a tv nerd already. You would think that I was part of this show!

Last! Sam was let go, when she saw her son tied up she jumped in the back of the van. So I guess she wasn't technically "kidnapped."

Honeychile - I have been to only one military funeral for my great-uncle. At that young age, I was mesmerized. I am so sorry to hear about your father. Please, let me thank you for his service and protecting our country. My thoughts are with you.

Absolutely. Sensuret - on the money as usual!

ZTABullwinkle - thank you - you are too kind!

ZTABullwinkle 06-13-2006 03:47 PM

Is it just me, who NEVER misses an episode of ER (I even TiVO it!:p ) but when I have watched the repeats from this year.....I missed quite a few things. I hope they will replay some of the last episodes before next season shows up.

I'll say it again....I am going to be RAGING if they kill off Jerry......

ASUADPi 09-22-2006 12:44 AM

So what did everyone think of the season premiere?

I'm in the middle of watching it now. I'm really liking it.

Does anyone know who sings the song that was playing while Jerry was in surgery and Abbey was having the csection? I really liked it and would like it.

I really hope nothing happens to Abbey or the baby. I really like Abbey. I have a feeling (since the show is still on right now) that Jerry will be killed off (since he is a minor character), we shall see since I still have 15 minutes left of the eppy.

honeychile 09-22-2006 01:05 AM

While I know that there will be serious repercussions, I was SO PROUD of Sam at the end! Best move she could have made, for her & her son!

I hope that Abby's hysterectomy doesn't break her & Luka up, that the baby is enough to keep them together. I didn't get the feeling that Jerry would die, especially with his mother there! ;)

But all in all, for someone who has never missed an episode, and after last season's finale was so well done, I was disappointed in this one. There wasn't enough pathos for all of the loose ends left. I'm rather at a loss for words for how I feel - but don't go thinking that I'll miss it next week!

Senusret I 09-22-2006 09:30 AM

I liked it, though I fell asleep from 10:30pm to 10:45pm, so I missed the surgery and c-section. But I did see the hysterectomy. :(

Luka is a great character.

I was NOT feeling Sam getting raped.
