AOII Whistle
Have any of your heard the Official AOII Whistle? can you whistle it?
Silver |
I've heard it before at my first convention I attended in NYC in 1997...I think Peg (PIP) knows it...
|
I know that Nancy (McCain) knows it, but I actually have never heard it.
Sarah |
We have a whistle?
I would be interested in hearing it at some point. |

Glitter, what did it sound like? Was it long, like a small song, or short, like a call? The whistle was once listed (1932 or so) in the Rules and Regulations of the fraternity (I have a reference to it, but no copy of this article.). The whistle started with Zeta chapter and was formally made into a national symbol in 1906. I just realized that I must look like a female Cliff Claven. <blush> :) Silver |

Hum.. maybe when Joan MacCallum (PIP/Intl Archivist) heads to HQ next, she can source that out and the staff can add it to the website as a sound file :) (i.e. hint to Beryana to pass that along) |
NeonPi, same question goes for you..Is it long, like a song, or short, like a call?
Silver |
I can't remember...I think it was just short and peppy....sorry ya'll....

What a great question to ask at Storytelling! We need to remember this.

Whistle
Since I have to e-mail Joan today about arranging to meet her for lunch in Hudson, PQ, I will ask her. :p
I also remember Nancy doing it at Centennial, but can't remember exactly what it was like. |
Please forgive me for crashing, but I may be able to help y'all. About a year ago, I bought an old (or do iI say "vintage"?) ADPi Songbook on ebay. There were about 3-4 pages of the whistles of different GLOs - which I found odd! I thought that whistles were part of the Double Secret Ritual Knowledge.
I'm a little stretched out, living between two houses, but if I find it, I'd be happy to PM it to Silver to share. :) Panhellenically, |
That would be lovely, honeychile. Thank you for your offer.
|
Thanks Honeychile :)

The only thing that is coming into my mind is the Hitchikers books - but I don't think that is right. (Today is being one of those days - a kid in class said that Jonah was going to Nineveh which is is Canada when he got swallowed by a big fish. . . . )

Whistle
:) Joan is looking into it. She thinks she has it at home, but it may be in the archives. She agreed that it would be a great thing for the PIP talk at convention.
Roses, Marjorie |
Think we can get a .wav file of that?
|
Whistle
We'll get Shala on that, once Joan finds the whistle or gets the PIPs to perform it at International Convention!
|
i'm in epsilon...and we have old minutes books from the 20's and 30's and the whistle is written out in one! last year we played it on the piano...it was really cute!
|
Must share! Must share!! Could you scan it and forward it to me?!
|
I would suggest that you go to InCircle and post it ... maybe in the General discussions or in one of the Groups that seems appropriate. Then, tell us where!!!
