Favorite part of rush?
Hi everyone :) . I was just wondering what everyone's favorite part of rush is. Can be Rushers or Rushees. Thanks so much!
|
I loved the "frills!" Singing, chanting, skits, decorations, food, etc.
|
Greeting your new sisters on Bid Day. That is the entire purpose of recruitment and everything- all the prep of both PNMs and sisters, all the decorations, the food and the parties- just leads up to it.
|
My favorite part of rush is when the parties are done for the day and the clean up begins. We turn up the music and dance around our space as we clean up. That relaxation and sense of a job well done is amazing.
|
*Before parties. I loved getting pumped up for the parties by playing Fall Out Boy.
*Meeting alot of new people. I love talking to the girls and finding out the different activities they were involved in and fun stuff they'd done over the summer. *After the 3rd round (the night before prefs), we all got a chance to go get into pj's and get popcorn prior to meeting at the house. It just made the whole evening go ALOT faster when we were all comfortable, not cranky and still in our party outfits. *BID NIGHT. It's ALL OVER, and you get to wear your letters while screaming your cheers at the top of your lungs while waiting for your new members. :) |
As a sister--when your sorority gets its returns. It's so wonderful when everyone is screaming and jumping up and down--"We got so-and-so! And her roommate!"
|
As a collegiate: meeting so many great women, and singing seriously corny rush songs!
As an alumna: BID MATCHING!!!! There is no high so wonderful as the ever so politely said, "Match!" when you really want to spike the whole table of Advisors over getting the PNM you really, really wanted! |

As an advisor....Bid Matching is my favorite. Hearing the "silent" announcement of making quota and not having to stay for snap bidding makes your heart jump.
As a collegian....I loved rush in general! I loved meeting the women, the preparation, getting to be with your sisters, and everything else! No wonder I do what I do! |
When it's over............
It was never my favorite time. |
The roller skating nights! Or any activity night really. Our recruitment is basically a week long of COBs. So we go a little crazy at least once during the week.
A couple semesters ago, we went to this place with a bunch of bounce houses and inflatable obstacle courses. SOOOO much fun... even for someone who was 3 years out of college. |
On both sides...
Having rushed during the last half of the 1970's, I would have to say all the beer.
|
I truly love anything and everything involved with recruitment. I loved it as a collegian, I loved it as Chapter Adviser, and I love it as an alumna. Yes, that includes cleaning silver, emergency cheesecake runs when returns are higher than anyone could possibly dream :), bid matching, making sure the house is shining and ready, and so on. My newest recruitment love is volunteering at bid signing through our local alumnae PH.
Yes, I'm a recruitment nerd. Someone has to be! |

I always looked forward to the anticipation of seeing who the new members are on Bid Day. :) It definitely made up for an entire week of talking and singing until we were all hoarse and staying up til 2 every morning perfecting skits.
|
Our welcome ritual!!! I LOOOOVE it.
And I love finally finding out who our new members are :):). Recruitment just started on Saturday, and over the next few weekends my Ireland-dwelling butt will be glued to my e-mail!!! |
Seeing my "rush crush" walk thru the door on Bid Night! I have been lucky in that each year- the girls that I really clicked with became a sister and just seeing her face when she walked thru the door and her running up to me - so happy - it was like I became an instant mother to this newbie! It was the best feeling ever :)
|
as a collegian, all the frills: the yard dances and songs, the costumes, the decorations-just like nutbrown said. then seeing who came back day after day. trying to help a nervous pnm feel welcome and comfortable, and trying to find an interesting subject to discuss with her. i liked the challenge.
as an alum, bid matching. you are so right, the adrenanlin rush one gets when the first girls on the list are matched is like no other. |
we did mostly informal rush with my chapter and i loved showing up to an event and having new people there. I loved meeting new people and then watching them become more involved with us and more excited and then giving them a bid is so much fun! i especially love to see the women i brought to recruitment events deciding to join and when tehy are initiated it is the greatest day!
|
I love PREF night and all the frills... I know that we are going to a non-frill world but I love the frills. I don't miss the food but it would be boring to not have skits and balloons.
I wish now that I had volunteered to coordinate one of the nights, if not the whole thing. I hope to one day get to sit in on bid matching, I want to experience that "high". |

Bid day! Finally an end to all the anxiety, and it was always so nice to see who our new girls were. Better than New Years!
|
Everything about it! I love meeting the new girls and when they walk through the door on bid day it's awesome. I also just love all the quality time it gives me with my sisiters, especially after pref night when we're all pumped up and excited and we can't believe we have to wait a whole day to find out who will be our new sisters.
I love skit practice and laughing at each other and the cheering inbetween rounds. basically I love it all and I'm so excited to go back to my chapter this weekend to help out as an alum for the first time:D |
