Western boots - help!

So I've done a search and didn't find anything, so...

I'm looking for a pair of authentic western-style boots. I'm trying to decide what brand and style I want, and I just can't decide. I really like styles by Frye and Justin.

These are the Fryes I like. I've noticed that they're selling these at Macy's, Parisian, etc.

But I also like these Justins.

What do y'all think? I'm thinking something I can scuff up and wear out to the bars with jeans and a cute top.

pinkiebell1001 01-01-2006 02:08 PM

personally, I dig the Justins-the other pair just doesn't look right to me (but it may be the lighting that was used).

Justins are my absolute favorite--every pair of ropers and cowboy boots I own are Justins, I think! I have a really cute pair from their "Punchy" collection (it's this same boot, actually) and I always get compliments on them.

The Justin's look more real to me :)

Lucchese boots are my favorite.

Lucchese Hand Crafted Premium Quality Boots

Handcrafted in West Texas since 1883, Lucchese boots have come to be known as the boot of choice for many celebrities, like John Wayne, Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, George Bush, as well as several other American Presidents. Using only the finest leathers and skilled craftsmen, Lucchese has earned a solid, highly regarded reputation for creating unequaled handmade western boots. Lucchese is definitely a lifestyle born in the American West and lived around the world.

FYI: Mrs. Lucchese was a Chi Omega!

I vote for the Justins -- the other pair looks more like a "biker" boot than a cowboy boot.

I like the Justins also. And if your foot is small enough check out the boys department for the boots. My ropers are boys, they look exactly like the women's style at half the cost.

Justins

Oh honey, if you're talking western boots, these are where it's at.

However, if you don't want to spend $350, these are pretty cool, too and are on sale. I saw them in person and really dig them in a WTF sort of way.

Those Frye's are pretty nice, I really like the papaya color.

Oh yeah, I didn't look at those at first, but those are really cute. The white looks good with the other colors. I'd be too afraid of getting them dirty though.

Buy what feels comfortable to you, but let me make one thing perfectly clear....

If you can buy them at Macy's, they are NOT "authentic" Western boots!! ;)

I love Frye boots. I have these:

Santa brought me these (in Brown Bomber) for Christmas:

I've worn them almost every day that I've worn jeans since I got them. They are so comfortable!

I grew up riding horses and therefore have had A LOT of boots, and I've never had any that were this comfortable right from the start. Usually boots are pretty stiff at first. However, I don't know if I'd recommend them to wear if you are actually going to ride. They are pretty wide/chunky, and I'd be afraid that they could get caught in your stirrup more easily than traditional ropers.

Good luck with your search!

I read about a guy that used to make cowboy boots in jail in Texas.

Evidently his work was so good famous people and politicians came to him. George Bush has him make his boots.

You should get your boots made by him.

Was this guy a member of the Bush "inner circle?" Some of them are in jail -- or may soon be.

OK, tacky, but fun.

Yeah you shouldn't be happy at the misfortune of others.

Whoa, I didn't ask for cowgirl boots! Those are cute though, but what I want is something brown, simple and almost tomboyish. ;)

I really like these now. They have a freaking gel insert!

Kevlar281 01-03-2006 10:22 PM

I recomend any boot by Red Wing they will last a life time. I wear a pair of a 2231s daily and they feel great. Here is their search page, just punch in the features that you want and see what comes up.

lifesaver 01-04-2006 02:40 AM

I have the 11 inch pull on that I wear pretty much daily, except when I am in a suit to meet clients. See The Style Here I have had them 13 years now and they are in great shape. I'm going for 20 years. I wear them about 4 times a week. I actually bought and wore a pair of the brown steve maddens and my friends were freaking out that I wasnt in boots.

I have four other pairs of boots. A pair of lace ups, pair of black justins, pair of brownish justins, and a pair of full quill ostrich that were my dads. I'm wanting to get another dark brown pair and I have a half off coupon from Sheplers that they gave me when I got my carhart duck coat last month.

At any rate, I'd go for the Justins. They look authentic and wont look like you are trying to hard like the other one you linked to did. (No one here would be authentic with that strap over the top).

You'll love them. Unless its a classy or trendy bar/club, I wear the redwings. Guy's pisser's can be pretty nasty by the end of the nite in most bars. I can walk through any muck in the redwings.

Yeah, 50% off any item in the store through Jan. 26. The chick at the checkout asked me if I got the catalog in the mail and I said I did, (I dont, but dont want to be bothered with it all) and she said, "Here's a coupon for next time."

I wasnt too impressed with the boot selection they had in the store when I went in there this weekend. It is after the holidays. I could do with a nice 10X felt hat....

I just don't wear them because I'm neither a cowgirl nor a tomboy! Now, riding boots I'll wear, while I'm riding of course.

AznSAE 01-04-2006 12:44 PM

you know, i have lived in texas pretty much all my life and i dont own any cowboy boots, cowboy hats, or cowboy jeans.

i was in el paso on a convention and we went to look at boots, they cost more than my rent

irishpipes 01-04-2006 01:39 PM

I think I was the only girl at Oklahoma State that didn't own cowboy boots or ropers. They are too claustrophobic feeling for me, and I am not a country girl. I am only 5'2, and I think they look nicer on girls with longer legs than I have. Plus, the pointy-toe ones remind me of Barbie shoes.
