Best foundation?
I figured that my fellow GC'ers might be able to help me out here.
I'm on the lookout for a new foundation. I've tried perfectly real from Clinique (it made my complexion look off) as well as Mac select (made me break out and really clogged my pores). I have pretty dry skin, and have heard mixed reviews from people who use bare escentials (at least those who also have dry skin). I wanted to try both Prescriptives Virtual Skin Super-Natural Finish, as well as Chanel Teint Fluide. Any thoughts/recommendations? Thanks :) |
ask Rudey. He sells Mary Kay

I use Almay's Nearly Naked and I LOVE it! It's nice and cheap, but it works great for me. I don't know anyone else who has liked it as much as I do, but there ya go. |
OK I kid you not, I was thinking this would be a discussion on charitable foundations. I had it all planned out. Someone with say George Soros and his little Open charity and I'd go berzerk. But this is GC, and I should have known better.
-Rudey --Try Maybelline because the girls in the "Maybe it's Maybelline" commercials are hot |

(I don't even know if they make a "foundation," but Mrs. DA has used Este Lauder stuff for years.) |

Have you tried the MAC Moistureblend. I had to buy this recently because the weather was making my skin dry and the MAC studiofix wasnt helping. It's quite sheer, too. I like it so far. |
I just got the Dream Matte Mousse stuff to try since I can't afford the nice stuff right now, and I love it. It's nice and cheap to try :)

No Funny come back Sh*t, but is there something guys can use?
Ks. Winters can suck!:( Feel like I could peal of a lb. of fleash! |
I have really dry skin as well, so I need to use a liquid foundation. The best one that I found was custom blended for me by Bilkerdijk Cosmetics (http://bilkerdijk.com). They matched my skin tone perfectly and also added some glycerin to the formula so that it would help replenish oil to my skin. Its definately the best foundation I've ever used.

I love Bourjois. It's a line by Chanel, very affordable and available at Sephora. My $20 bottle has lasted me 5 months. I bought a good foundation brush because sponges just suck up the foundation.
This foundation doesn't go on greasy, includes an SPF 15 and is light on your face so you don't feel caked on. |
I swear by bareminerals, but I have combination skin. So I guess that doesn't really help.
|
I'm with Delt Alum's wife - in the winter, I use Estee Lauder's Lucidity. There is some ingredient in the formula which cause light to diffuse nicely!
|
I don't wear foundation much anymore, but do not, under any circumstances, waste your money on Bobbe Brown if you have skin that's anywhere near oily. It made me break out like you would not believe, and after I'd had it on for a while it just looked greasy and oily. Buurrggghhh. Other people I've known with skin types similar to mine have said the same thing. Supposedly the stick kind is better than the "cream" kind I had, though.

I like Shiseido. It makes my skin feel like porceline.
If you are on a budget though, I would go with the mousse that Xylochick216 recommended. I use that when I am in-between shades if I tan. |
I'm partial to concrete and rebar.
http://stupas.org/The_36__Amitabha_S...on_5_-_web.jpg Post and Pier foundations suck (except if you live a quake zone and have dampers on them). |

I noticed when I first met you that you have really lovely skin. Just thought I'd mention that although it sounds like a bad pickup line! |
I don't usually wear foundation on a daily basis since I don't really need it, but when I go out at night I sometimes use it. The best stuff I've ever used is definitely Bare Minerals, some people love it, some hate it, my mom and I are both obsessed with it. If you learn how to apply it correctly it works awesome!

i have dry skin too(yes, even here in humid florida) and i use bobby brown.

I've used Origins Silk Screen, which is a powder foundation, which you may or may not like. I personally prefer powder foundation over liquid.
http://www.origins.com/templates/pro...UCT_ID=PROD123 Their stuff has natural ingredients in it which i looove, it's much better for you in the long run. |
In terms of foundation you can get at the corner drugstore, I like Maybelline Wonder Finish. It gives a powder finish and makes my skin look how I wish it would look naturally. If you keep a powder compact ready for long days or evenings and if you're not smushed against a cell phone all the time, I have found zero problems with it. It even matched my skintone really well, which is amazing! It's an understatement to say I have fair skin, (I even had a student ask, "Miss UofISK...Why are you so white?") but I have lots of pink undertones, but not completely...it's a nightmare finding foundation that matches! I often have to buy two shades and custom blend. So, yes...Maybelline Wonder Finish.

Your best bet is to follow a simple routine. Get a good but not strong cleanser. Also purchase an exfoliating FACIAL scrub. They are not as scrubbing as the body exfoliators, but are more gentle on your skin. Exfoliate 2-3 times per week at first, then cut back as your face gets back to normal. Get a moisturizer and use morning and night; apply lightly. If you can, get a moisturizer with SPF in it to protect from sun damage. I am fond of products from The Body Shop and found a couple in Kansas, although don't know if these are near you. If you have dry skin, get the Vitamin C (smells like fresh oranges) or Vitamin E (very light scent, moisturizer is lighter, so better for slightly oily skin) products. You can also order online (www.thebodyshop.com) 1. Oak Park Mall 11779 West 95th Street Overland Park, KS 66214 USA 913-492-8866 2. Leawood Town Center 5252 West 119th Street Leawood, KS 66209 USA 913-906-9616 If you want drug/grovery products, here were my favs before going to Body Shop: Cleanser: must say i didn't really find a good all around cleanser. I do use the Clean & Clear Astringent for gentle skin (the regular stuff is terror on my face). It's blue and is pretty cheap. Technically, you are supposed to use astringents after you cleanse, but i don't always do this and just use the astringent. You can also use your body soap if it is not a real strong soap, like Dial or Ivory. If you use Caress or Dove or something like that, they are OK to use. Exfoliator: Buff Puff Singles facial sponge with cleanser. It exfoliates and cleanses all at once, so great multi-use product. I used to get the "gentle" skin one, but hard to find now. The regular is good too, just don't scrub hard. It shouldn't hurt! Also, i have used the St. Ives Gentle Apricot Scrub, but it doesn't cleanse. Moisturizer: I honestly liked Oil of Olay with the SPF. It was light and not very oily. You can follow a similar routine for the rest of your body: cleanse, exfoliate & moisturize to keep your skin healthy and soft. Geez, i sound like a commercial! lol For the foundation, i also like the ALmay Nearly Naked and I just bought some regular foundation from them that i like too. |
This thread reminds me that after the holidays I need to take a trip to Kaufmann's during lunch break and head to the makeup counters. I have fairly pale skin (though I know people who are much paler!) and have a hard time color matching. I had Clinique's almost makeup before, but I didn't really like it, and it separated quite quickly on me.
So I guess I just need to pick out which makeup counter to go to and throw myself to their mercy, lol. |

I use Revlon New Complexion and it's great. |

kddani, I have very fair skin, too. Everytime I go to one of those makeup artists, they want me to wear the lightest shade, and I just don't look right with it. Finally, I asked my mother what shade she wears (she's as fair as I am), and she wears olive! Now, I don't go that dark, but in Estee Lauder, I wear light to medium (that's the shade color). I wore Clinique for years, and the Estee Lauder artist was nice enough to match the Clinique shade to the Estee Lauder shade for me!
Just a suggestion, one redhead to another! |
Sorry about the double post, but Clinique makes a "real" foundation, too - it just doesn't do nice things to my skin! (BTW, Estee & Clinique are the same company).

I hate Robinson, too, but at least it's a close, hellish drive for me, instead of a more distant. I'd also be quite happy if they put one in Ross Park or SHV or downtown. |

I have very fair skin with yellow undertones and love Bare Minerals because I can custom-blend to match my skin tone perfectly (though the Fairly Light 1.2 works fairly well on its own).
No matter how oily your face is, though, you must moisturize every day. I have combo skin that gets really dry in the winter. I use an oil-free moisturizer and let it absorb 5 or so minutes before I put on my makeup. I can always tell a difference when I try and cheat on this step to save time. |

(back on topic) I hate foundation. I mean, I hate foundation. I've tried them all--Prescriptives color matching, Mary Kay, Clinque, MAC, Maybelline--you name it, I tried it. Mary Kay had a powder type foundation recently that was okay. Even if a "makeup artist" did my face it always seemed that once I got home it looked horrible, the colors were off, or you could tell I was wearing foundation or whatever. Then, I went to Sephora and got the Bare Minerals medium kit after seeing BE on QVC and the infomercials. I think I'm hooked! The Medium Beige is too dark right now but should be perfect in late spring/early summer. Medium is perfect for my December pallor :) Really nice and light coverage that doesn't feel like a mask, or look even worse. Now I'm also the proud owner of a full size Glee (love it), Bisque (whoever knew concealer could be fun?) and the Clear Radiance (the wonder product of the whole darned line so far). I still haven't quite got the moisturizing trick down yet, but so far I've very happy with the products. |

On the rare occasion that I wear full makeup, I use either Neutrogena or MAC. I like Neutrogena because it doesn't look like I'm wearing makeup (the shade matches perfectly with my skin tone) and it's SPF 20. I have oily skin though, so this may not help much.
