JD1913 12-14-2005 10:07 AM

Oh and I blame my parents. They refused to teach me how to drive... it was my ex who ended up teaching me after weeks of pleasing... Im sorry I meant PLEADING... :)

heres the kicker ALL of my brothers had their licenses when they were 16....

SweetestTaboo 12-14-2005 10:11 AM

It was 17 or 18. I just can not remember.*as if I'm so old*

allsmiles_22 12-14-2005 10:28 AM

Here in NYC, there's no rush to get a driver's license at a young age because our transportation system runs 24 hours a day. Plus, there are hella taxicabs to hail. :p

Yeah, that's my excuse, because I went to school and worked out there for a few years. :o Yeah, that's my excuse too, lol.

yeah, right. You know MamaFeeFee was not letting your fast behind have that much autonomy at 18. :)

nikki1920 12-14-2005 11:04 AM

Learner's permit at 15 yrs and 9 months, driver's license at 16. Been driving for 13 years now, wow! No major accidents, just minor fender benders (3).

Dionysus 12-14-2005 11:09 AM

permit-15 1/5
license-18

That dayum paralell parking thing is what caused me to fail the test twice. That, and I rarely had access to a car to practice in, until I turned 18.

skeeliteful 12-14-2005 11:09 AM

Permit at 15.

License at 18. I didn't have a car and my best friend didn't mind driving me everywhere, so I didn't see the point in getting it.

treblk 12-14-2005 11:13 AM

18 :D and you C.O.U.L.D.N.'T. tell me NUFFIN!!!

CrimsonTide4 12-14-2005 11:21 AM

I had my permit at 16, took driver's ed, passed it and everything. . . just had some unfortunate incidents happen that kept me away from the DMV for a few years.:(

TheEpitome1920 12-14-2005 11:23 AM

I got mine at 17 although I drove a whole summer without it.:o

Mama FeeFee would've been just fine with me driving @ 18.

D.COM 12-14-2005 11:42 AM

Permit at 15.
License at 16.
And made 10 years without getting a ticket...

Then this year I got my first one for speeding  :p There was an ADT van and another car hogging BOTH lanes AND going BELOW the speed limit (I hate it when they are evenly next to each other like that) - as soon as I got a chance I sped up to pass the ADT van, and wham out of nowhere two motorcycle cops showed up. I didn't even bother explaining and just took the ticket. Paid it and moved on with my life

aopirose 12-14-2005 11:58 AM

17. Got my first and only speeding ticket at 20. I was doing 30 in a 25 and the campus po-po pulled me over. What can I say? It was a pretty day after days of rain and I was living life in the fast lane!

NOWorNEVER 12-14-2005 12:21 PM

Permit at 15
License at 16, even though I failed the road test once

DSTinguished1 12-14-2005 12:31 PM

Rain Man 12-14-2005 12:38 PM

CT4, don't feel bad.....

.....I got my first license at the age of 22 (Friday, June 14, 1996).

Things happen.

BTW, that was my 3rd attempt to get a license. The first time was in '93, got my temps, no one would let me practice driving, and my temps expired, the 2nd time was in '95, I was practice driving, but no one would let me borrow their car for the exam, so the temps expired again, the 3rd time was in '96, and I had even taken a driving school course. It took 2 tries to get my license, the 1st time I passed maneuverability but failed the road test, the 2nd time I had to bribe someone into using their car by paying $75. It worked, and the rest is history.

ETA: Before I had a car, I rode a bicycle EVERYWHERE through any type of weather (think 40 Year Old Virgin). But I loved my bike. The only reason why I got a car was because it was becoming more of a necessity than a luxury. Looking back, I just didn't think that having a car at 17/18/19 years old without making sufficient money to properly care, maintain, and insure it was a very smart thing to do. So while I did get clowned for riding a bicycle, all things considered, I think it was a good choice.

I still don't have a license, but I have a permit. I took driver's ed in HS, but I never pursued it. So now I am starting over again.

For real? Learn something new about folks every day. I was 16.

gamma_girl52 12-14-2005 01:31 PM

I got my liscence at 23 :o which is bad because UNLIKE New York, the rail system in the A doesn't run all day and night :(

Steeltrap 12-14-2005 01:34 PM

License at 21 years, 3 months. January 2, 1986. I had to get it in order to have an internship with the Los Angeles Times.

btb87 12-14-2005 02:32 PM

16 - 2 weeks after my birfday.

WenD08 12-14-2005 05:49 PM

i was 16. based on current events and my own personal experience w/a bad teen driver, however, i would like teens to get their licenses at a minimum of 18.
a 16 yr. old put me in the hospital (and put the down payment on my home) so i'd prefer the age limit be upped.

just my .08 on the subject...

OrangeMoon 12-14-2005 06:04 PM

Due to State Law

17 permit :(
18 restricted license
21 full privileges :D

MeezDiscreet 12-14-2005 06:36 PM

dstdoll97 12-14-2005 07:36 PM

16 permit. 17 driver's license. 21 driver's license with no restrictions.

Gina1201 12-14-2005 07:45 PM

I was 16 when I got my permit, driver's license and got my first car. I got my permit in Dec. '97 and my license and car in Sep. '98. My first car was so raggedy. It was an 1989 Dodge Omni that was red with both front doors being brown. My friends used to clown me ALL the time. But I didn't care because I had a car to drive and they didn't. :p

Wonderful1908 12-14-2005 07:47 PM

16 Permit

17 Full License

christiangirl 12-14-2005 08:25 PM

You know, I honestly can't remember when I got my license....I know I was 16, but I don't remember what month...it was one of my greatest milestones, but I don't remember the date....

DirectorDST1999 12-14-2005 10:24 PM

I think I was 18... that was almost 2 decades ago.

aephi alum 12-15-2005 12:00 AM

Learner's permit: 16-1/4
Passed road test (on first try) and got restricted driver's license: 16-1/2
Full driver's license: 17

Here in the 'burbs, you have to drive to get anywhere... so everyone gets a license ASAP.

What's with having to be 21 to get a license with no restrictions? In NY, you can get an unrestricted license at age 18, or 17 if you take driver's ed; the only difference is that there are much harsher penalties for DUI/DWAI if you're under 21. Is that what you're referring to?

StarFish106 12-15-2005 09:04 AM

I was 25 and the last of my friends....i wasn't pressed to get it and didn't mind walking (which i so need to go back to). But ,y mom got sick to had to get off the pot and go get it. Passed and kept it moving...

better question:
When did you get your first set of wheels that you were totally responsible for (no help from mom, dad, cuzins etc)?

Me--> last year at age 33!:D
