Are NPHC orgs Christian? (Why I originally asked)

OK, some of yall may be wondering why I originally asked if NPHC orgs are Christian? The reason being is that I attended a open house of a bona-fide Christian fraternity last weekend called Sigma Theta Epsilon and I had a blessed time. For all you Greekchatters who know me will remember a while back I stated an interest in joining an NPHC fraternity grad chapter. I was trying to see from the NPHC members themselves if they were Christian orgs; after all, birds of a feather flock together. I didn't want to join an NPHC org and later go inactive, so I posed the question directly to the members. Needless to say, for the responses I got, I had to probe for a yes or no answer because the question was frequently skirted. While I didn't get the answer from the org I desired, the 9 years experience associating with them is enough of an answer for me. My mind is clear and I have a direction I am going to go as far as GLOs are concerned.

While searching for something else, I thought this was interesting.

Very very old, but interesting nonetheless.

BlueNYC2 11-16-2007 01:16 PM

lol @ bumpin this old thread...but yo, when i'm asked this, i always say, we are an organization founded on christian beliefs, but we are not a christian org being that we have members of all faiths in our respective orgs.

Little32 11-16-2007 01:52 PM

BlueNYC, this thread is interesting for reasons beyond the question that it poses.

There are Christian sororities and fraternities, but if I remember correctly, I doubt that any NPHC GLOs are Christian in nature.

NPHC orgs were founded on Christian principles and ideals and all or most of their founders were Christians. However, even though there are many Christians in our organizations, we do not discriminate based on religious orientation. As far as being Christian in nature, technically we are not, although there are many chapters that would probably describe themselves that way. My alumnae chapter is one of them.

Ooooooooh.... I didn't know that. :o

Wow! I was gone from GC a really looooooong time.

This little tidbit really clears things up for me...

Personally, I don't know what particular point(s) some of you are attempting to prove by reviving this thread, but FWIW since this thread is 7 years old, it is most definately a moot one. (ex. 7 years ago I also used to be a Democrat, now I am a Libertarian/temporary Republican; do you find that just as interesting?)

Lemme explain it to you (ahem...clearing my throat)....

I think the interesting point is that up until you crossed into KAPsi you were highly critical of the NPHC and took great pleasure in criticizing the NPHC and now you are a member of a NPHC org. You took great efforts to express your disdain for the NPHC and its members and now that you are a member of a NPHC org you seem like a true hypocrite.

Does the fact that I switched from Democrat to Republican make me a hypocrite too (or better yet, the fact that I switched from a Socialist ideaology to a Libertarian one)?

(ETA: Oh never mind). Rather than write a lengthy rebuttal, I'll just say this:

OK, now what?

Exactly! The fact that Senusret and company would revive a 7 year old thread just to make a moot point and create some sort of hollow victory in their minds about me is what I find interesting.

To each their own, I guess.

What changed your mind about becoming a member of an NPHC org?

It depends on why you were Socialist or Democrat in the first place.

It could be that you just changed your mind about a certain topic or changed how you look at your social world, in general.

But it is certainly humorous when people act like something is the devil and then suddenly it is not just because they've had some conversations or done some research. Instead of just admitting you don't know everydamnthing there is to know and couldn't cast judgment in the first place. :) Learning and positive change are great but folks shouldn't act surprised or attacked when others call them out on how they used to be.

I cringe at the mere thought of how Senusret might be celebrating his new found knowledge of this term (or this thread, for that matter). :(

SPEAK THE TRUTH!

We don't give pass cards for stupidity. Rainman (which you will always be to me) you really should have kept your mouth SHUT(ahem, discretion) if you were really trying to be down with the NPHC, as MOST of us always suspected.

I pose to you the question I orginally posed to Sigmadiva:

OK, now what?

I pose to you the question I orginally posed to Sigmadiva:

"Now what?"

Now WE know you were FAKING it all along. I could almost respect your game if you had an ounce of humility. But you don't. Consider yourself very lucky, ALL the world is not on GC, because where I am from, I can promise you, had the brothers had access to your commentaries as Rainman, you would not be a Kappa today.

On the real, now that you have fulfilled what you wanted to be all along, take this advice from someone who has been in the NPHC for nearly 17 years ...practice STFU more.

Observation does not equal years in...have a seat and again, learn how to STFU. There is great value in practicing deference and understanding it intimately in NPHC culture.

The fact that I have made few posts regarding NPHC Greek life here notwithstanding, cause my priority is on how the US is about to face some economic hard times if some major changes isn't immediately implemented (though I am still a critic on how the NPHC can be improved, make no mistake about that), here is some advice from me to you:

If you have that much of an issue about me as a person, and you see me in real life, you are more than welcome to walk on by. 'Cause you are forgetting one small detail:

This is the Internet; it ain't that serious.

btw, I take advice from people telling me to STFU (wtfreak?) with a grain of salt.
