Any IPoders?

If you have an Ipod, which one do you own?

Please share any commentary about the product. I've been instructed to visit the ipod lounge. I did. Yet, I would like to know what are YOUR thoughts of the product.

I'm leaning towards the Nano as my holiday present to myself this year. I like the fact that I can download songs I lost from Napster when my PC crashed onto the device. Plus, I won't have to buy an entire CD if I only like a few songs and keep those songs on the Pod as well.

jubilance1922 12-05-2005 01:42 PM

I have a 4G iPod mini and I love it. It holds about 1000 songs, so I pretty much have most of my mp3's on it. Its lightweight and I haven't had any problems with it. Its with me all the time. Adding to your iPod is very simple, and there are lots of add-on's you can get that will allow you to play it in your home, car, office, etc. I have a fm transmitter that allows me to play my iPod in the car.

If you get a nano, I would wait a few months until they get the screen problems fixed. Apparently they are easily scratched and cracked.

Also I would look at ebay. I got mine from ebay, brand new in the box (not refurbished) and it only cost me $170 including shipping. If I had bought my mini from a retail store, it would have cost $200+.

NUPE4LIFE 12-05-2005 01:56 PM

I have a Creative Zen Micro. It's cheaper than the Ipods and I can hold 2500 songs and it has a FM Radio on.

AKA2D '91 12-05-2005 01:57 PM

Thanks.
Were you able to get your engraved?

The nano shows video, right? The mini does not? I might settle for the mini. I need space for songs, not videos/graphics.

Ebay? I don't know about bidding. I might have to check amazon.

Cracks? Wouldn't that happen to someone who isn't delicate with their products?

TheEpitome1920 12-05-2005 02:02 PM

I also have the 4G Ipod Mini and I LOVE it. I bought it at the store and wasn't able to get it engraved, I believe that option was only for people who bought it off the web. I used my school ID and got it for like 170something. They didn't check to see if it was current. ;)

I also purchased the Creative Zen because I liked the radio feature but I found it difficult to use. I didn't like the menu setup and I found the navigation to be a bit extra. And it was $200 so it was more expensive than my iPod.

EchoGyrl 12-05-2005 02:31 PM

I have the regular 40GB iPod. I've had mine for two years (I have alot of music industry friends and you know they get EVERYTHING first). I've had NO PROBLEMS with it - I LOVE IT. The one I have holds 10,000 songs (I have 3700 downloaded on it, but find myself listening to the same 50 or so). When I purchased the iPod, it was $450, but it came with alot of accessories (FM Transmitter, Cassette adaptor, voice recorder, etc).

I have mine engraved with my name. I purchased it via the web, so I'm not sure if this option is also available in stores.

I am pretty delicate with mine , so I have not experienced any cracks. I will say this - if you live in a cold climate and play the iPod in the car, make sure you bring it inside. Last winter, I left mine in the glove compartment when I went inside on a regular basis. For a while, the iPod would operate fully when it was cold...once it warmed up, the forward/backward buttons wouldn't work. It took about two weeks of inside warmth for it to recalibrate (you should have seen me putting the iPod in the freezer for two minutes so I could move forward to the next song.) It works fine now.

I had a 20GB Ipod but I outgrew it quickly.. now I have a 40GB Zen Xtra and I agree with N4L that you will come out cheaper and have more song capacity...

AKA2D '91 12-05-2005 02:43 PM

All the info...thanks!

Zen?
Is that a name brand?

School me, please! :D

I didn't see this post. :o

Can you record songs from its FM radio?
That would be fantastic!

Re: Any IPoders?

I have the iPod Shuffle. I like the fact that I can download music and files (such as images and documents) and have it all in one. The shuffle is just like having an iPod and a Jump Drive together.

i have the 20gb color screen and i loooooove it! i also have an fm transmitter so i can play it through my stereo at home, in the car and the classroom. when i got mine, it was $299 but because of some stuff that happened with the sales associate at best buy, i got it for $250.

if you get one, you'll definitely enjoy it

No engraving.

I'm not sure about the video. Like someone else mentioned, you can also use your mini to hold files, sort of like a flash drive.

Ebay is good, just use the "buy it now" option. If you try to bid on it, the seller will come in under a different name to drive up the price in the last few minutes.

Apparently the screens were extra-fragile. I don't know anyone that has one though, I was the last one among my friends to get an iPod.

AKA2D '91 12-05-2005 03:22 PM

See, you all have my wheels turning. I appreciate it!

I've researched the Zen. I CAN (if I purchase it) record from the radio. Get. the. gun! :D

I maybe swayed to the Zen. ETA: The zen isn't as cute as the Ipod. :o

I'll be the first in my crew to get a IPod/Zen/whatever!
I believe my niece is getting one for Christmas. I'm going to have to email the zen's info to my brother-in-law. He loves to comparison shop.

You beat me to it! Yeah it's not as aestetically appealing as the IPOD but the functionality is better. I also with IPODS you can only use Itunes if you decide to use one of the LEGAL services to purchase music. With the Zen you can use multiple services.

AKA2D '91 12-05-2005 03:33 PM

There are service fees for those right?

iPod/Zen Service agreements: Did you all purchase your plans?

NUPE4LIFE 12-05-2005 03:35 PM

I got mine from CompUSA and I didn't purchase their plan. I should have although I haven't had any problems with my Zen. Fingers crossed!

amycat412 12-05-2005 03:39 PM

Purchase the Apple Care warranty for sure. Its about $60, covers 2 years and when something happens to your Ipod, they just give you a new one. The batteries only last about a year, so for this alone, it is totally worth it.

Bamboozled 12-05-2005 03:41 PM

I have a 40GB Apple iPod by Hewlett-Packard (http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/sh...=PE436AR%23ABA). I've always wondered if there is a difference between mine and one purchased from the Apple store. I don't know if the HP factor makes a difference.

I have a question for iPod owners. I used to have my iTunes library on my work computer and, when it got too large, I decided to move everything to my personal laptop. After I downloaded iTunes on my laptop, I plugged in my iPod and I got a prompt telling me that it detected that my iPod was linked to another library and it wanted to know if I wanted to cancel that link and link it to the new library. I said yes thinking that all of the songs on my iPod would transfer to my laptop. Instead, I think it deleted everything on my iPod. Has this happened to anyone and, if so, were you able to find the songs anywhere?

AKA2D '91 12-05-2005 03:47 PM

Great question !

BLUTANG 12-05-2005 04:02 PM

I have the 4G mini and i LOVE it. I convinced my S/O to get one, and he ended up getting a discount! By visiting the Apple store and purchasing a refurbished one instead of new, he was able to get a 6G mini for the price of a 4G!

*Accessories*
Earlier this summer my car was stolen so i had to get a new stereo. I used that as an opportunity to upgrade the stereo so my ipod integrates (seamlessly and hidden) into the glove compartment. The stereo i chose has built-in ipod functionality, so i can manipulate it just as i would my disc changer or the radio stations.

I have a few friends that have the plug in FM adapter and that works just as well if you don't want to go all out and get a new car stereo.

I think no matter what ipod you get, you'll be happy! Just don't think about the new versions that seem to drop every other week :)

gamma_girl52 12-05-2005 04:23 PM

I'm thinking about getting an IPod too. I've heard a lot of great things about it.

However since I only have Internet access at work then I will HAVE to use ITunes. I work at a university so you know I can't go any other way than the legal route :o but I guess $.99 a song isn't very bad.

jubilance1922 12-05-2005 06:52 PM

*hangs head*

I have a confession...I use a p2p program to download music (especially old school music, I refuse to buy a CD for ONE song!) and then just add those files to my iTunes library...So then all music is on my iPod!

I have never purchased a song through iTunes, and I won't if I don't have to.

[/end confession]

abaici 12-05-2005 09:51 PM

I have a Nano. It's perfect for work and the gym. It holds 1,000 songs.

ljkelly 12-05-2005 10:39 PM

I own a 4G iPod mini and it holds 1000 songs, I bought it at my school bookstore so it was only $170 w/ the student discount.

They do not make minis anymore, the Nano replaced it, but I am pleased with the product that I have, the only problem is that the accessories are not included, Apple always has something up it's sleeve for you to spend more money!

So, now I have to buy a portable charger to charge my iPod when I am away from my computer, which is $30 and then I am told that I need a firewall cord to connect it to my iPod, so that is more $...I just wish everything came with it, it is entirely too expensive, but I do use mine EVERYDAY, so I am getting my money's worth.

luminarysoul 12-06-2005 07:02 AM

I have a 20gb ipod.

I love it with all my heart! lol
I bought an Itrip so I play it through the radios in my house (I love the whole wireless transmission idea)
I also like Apple's Tech Support. Once you are under warranty you can walk right in the store and get a new ipod if something is wrong with the one you have ( which was useful to me!).

Like jubilance1922 i use a p2p program. Forgive me! lol but I buy music every once in a blue when I already know the album is banging before hand or I cant find it online.

AKA2D '91 12-06-2005 09:22 AM

How do you obtain the p2p program?

I was able to see the Nano yesterday. At the end of the day, a student had one. I stopped him. He thought I was about to reprimand him (school violation). He let me see the pod. He couldn't ask all of my questions. He only uploads his CDs to the pod.

I was thinking...how ironic. :D

<crash> Please pardon me.

I own both an iPod Shuffle and a Zen Xtra, and I like both of them. The Zen is 30GB, and that's A LOT of music...it's good for long road trips, which is the main purpose I use it.

The Shuffle I just stuff into my purse and use for short distances. It's little, it's cute and it works.

The Zen I got for Christmas last year. The Shuffle I bought myself on impulse.

</crash>

luminarysoul 12-06-2005 01:26 PM

Also another good thing with Apple is that they have a Student and Teacher discount on all their products event the warranties. Inquire about that.

AKA2D '91 12-06-2005 01:37 PM

Thank you all so much!

I purchased the Creative Zen Sleek 20 GB (yes, on sale...no shipping from amazon). After researching accessories from various sites, I found a pink skin for it. I should be receiving them in a few days. :D I'm too giddy!

I also turned my sister on to the Zen. I'll see which one they choose for my niece. :D

treblk 12-06-2005 04:02 PM

AKA2D, where did you buy your Zen from? do you have a website?

I'm looking to get an Ipod Mini for my sister for the holidays and something for myself. My brother has a Dell DJ and it seems to work well, but I'on know much about them.

Ok, I'm hooked!! Thank you AKA2D!!!

soulfulremix 12-07-2005 09:35 AM

Jubilance1922, I sent you a PM.

TonyB06 03-09-2006 11:11 PM

I just bought the 2G iPod nano last week. I have a pretty sizable CD collection so I'm transferring a lot of music over to the iPod (about 150 songs so far). There is nothing like hearing what you want when you want to hear it.

I had a minor issue with the earbuds that came with it (they wouldn't stay in my ears) but I bought "inserts" I guess you'd call them from Radio Shack and it's all good now. :D

aephi alum 03-09-2006 11:34 PM

I got myself an iPod mini (4GB) about a year and a half ago. I've read user feedback indicating that they are fragile, so I bought a case at the same time. I've never had a problem (knock on wood).

I got an iPod nano as a birthday gift for my husband a few months ago. Got the free engraving. :) I think his unit only holds 1GB, but he's never complained - it's plenty of room if you manage your playlists and podcasts right.

If you're in school, definitely go for the educational discount.

Apple ships via Fedex, signature required at time of delivery, so be sure to have your iPod delivered somewhere someone can sign for it. Apple does NOT warn you of this when you place your order. I got burned by this...

UpPinkies 03-09-2006 11:43 PM

Got the fifth generation (video and music) one for Christmas. I cannot stay away from I tunes!!!

tld221 03-09-2006 11:53 PM

treated myself/caved in to the 30GB iPod.

i dont have that much music!!!!

p.s GET A PROTECTIVE CASE!!! my screen cracked after something fell on top of it. i was fortunate to have the person at the Apple store replace it for me, when he shouldnt have.

and yes, i hopped on my student discount. $30 off, which essentially made it tax-free.

_Opi_ 03-10-2006 12:26 AM

:(

I think my Ipod is starting to get sick !
