Tom Earp, the adonis

Many of you have not seen Tom Earp. He is a very handsome
man. At Pittsburg, this real-life kinsman of Wyatt Earp was much
sought after. Well-mannered, well-dressed and good looking--
he even says some of you in here are not hoggers.
Those of you who are critics of his usage of English would be
most pleased to be seen with this attractive Lambda Chi.
So there.

James 11-30-2005 06:09 AM

Well be sure to tell us what its like to go on a date with him Erik ;) lol

Glad to see you posting :)

Erik P Conard 11-30-2005 06:54 AM

yes, James...but...

thank you for your kind reply James. I think Tom would be a good
date, manners 'n all. But I am not a rump ranger...

A) this is the greek life forum and this is not a greek life topic
B) We've seen pictures of him, they were posted to the yahoo group awhile ago. You're exaggerating just a tad.
C) College was a long time ago for Mr. Earp. I'm sure he could've been good looking. But again, that was a long time ago. Tobacco smoke ages a person greatly. It does not have a nice affect on physical appearance.
D) Your comments on his attractiveness should be left to your own personal life. Don't ask, don't tell, ya know?
D) Well mannered? Extremely ill-mannered on here.
E) Many a good looking man can open his mouth and remove all attractiveness by what comes out.

Erik P Conard 11-30-2005 08:05 AM

just what we expected

your kindness was not unexpected

Dani isn't old now & Tom already makes terrible comments to her about her job, sex life, friends, and just about everything else.

Most people don't see it because a lot of it stays in mod corner, but Tom is not some kindly spirit who is always there for people - he belittles & berates most of the women mods of GC and will say just about anything to us to piss us off, and then turns around and tries to act innocent. It doesn't help that he has quite a nice good-ol-boys network to back him up.

While things I have said haven't always been kind, there is a reason behind my comments. This goes for Dani, OTW, and others as well - you just usually don't know the whole story because you don't have access to what we put on the mod corner.

But I must agree...WHY IS THIS IN GREEK LIFE?!

SigmaChiGuy 11-30-2005 11:16 AM

If that is the case, then why don't you get him removed as a mod? Report him to John and get him removed.

Either way, if there is stuff going on in 'Mod Central' that you guys don't like, do something about it. Spouting 10% of what goes on in Mod Central on this public board, does nobody any good.

Exactly. If what goes on in Mod Corner spills over to the public boards then don't jump on folx when they respond to something you all have said, telling them they don't know the full story. How are they supposed to know?

Either leave everything that goes on in Mod Corner there or bring the backstory out.

I didn't jump on anyone - I just stated that you (general) don't know the whole story because its on a private forum. The idea was to say that you can't judge a book by its cover.

ladygreek - you started isht with me b/c of what I said in regards to OTW's remarks on the other thread - now you come here to continue it - I didn't reply to you over there because I was letting it go - can you honestly say that this thread belongs on Greek Life?

SigmaChiGuy 11-30-2005 05:00 PM

What's the big deal if it's in this thread or not? It's a public board that anyone can see, and there are a select few that are bitching about it because they don't like the person who happens to be the subject of the thread.

Besides, he's greek, so it can be in the Greek Life forum. Big deal.

That was tried before in The Alum Thread. Check it out and see who was leading the crusade.

Sorry Sweet Heart I do not bad mouth "All" of the Female Mods just the few.

I am so glad, I have "The Good Old Boys Network"!

I Thank them One and all!

Erik,
Thank You for the nice thought, and You were right, it didnt really take long did it?
 :) ;)

SigmaChiGuy,
Yes, I do like Greeks very Much, it is just a few who want to bad rap, bad mouth, give a hard time to anyone who comes on as a new member of GC that does not agree with their gagma.

This thread just once again proves my point.

This is S**ts and Grins isnt it!:)

_Q_ 11-30-2005 05:50 PM

To ask a different question, who would make a good moderator (who isn't already one)? My suggestions: BobbyTheDon, AGDee, maybe KSigRC

adpiucf 11-30-2005 06:05 PM

I wish there was a way to put a moderator on ignore.

One mod in particular harrassed several members with anti-Semitic statements in a thread in the Risk Management Forum which I believe has been deleted. Many complained about this person... yet this moderator is still a moderator.

Yes this is a free message board, but it would have been comforting to at least get a PM back knowing my concerns had been taken into consideration so I and others wouldn't have to continue to read this person's posts. Sometimes your eyes move faster than your mouse.

And that is why I <3 you.

As far as getting rid of him as a mod, it's been discussed more on the public boards, so any kind of talk about that is fair game.

As far as putting moderators on ignore, I too wish that we had that function. I know that it was suggested to John for future versions of GC software -- something along the lines of letting us ignore mods in all the forums except for the ones they moderate -- or something like that.

I enjoyed many of Tom's posts from the early years. Hell, I even jumped on the "EARP FOR PRESIDENT!" bandwagon. No one could understand what the hell he was saying, but many of his early posts were witty and made people laugh. I don't know what happened, but he turned an ugly monster, often throwing out anti-Semitic remarks and statements belittling women. These instances often went unprovoked, and many an innocent GC thread turned into trainwrecks because of good 'ol Tom.

And when lifesaver (who normally does get 'into' things unless you're BarbV) has to step in and tell him to shut it, you know it's bad.

Many people feel the same way Dani, AXO Alum, and I do. But for some reason we get singled out, often being told by the old boys' network that WE'RE in the wrong for feeling the way we do...and that we should just leave Tom alone because he's OLD and that that kind of behavior is acceptable when you reach that point in life.

Whatever.

Anyway, if anyone has suggestions for moderators, please PM John as he has final say. Mods are allowed to give their input, but as always, John gets the final say.

_Q_ 11-30-2005 07:09 PM

Is anyone on GC familiar with the way the moderation system on slashdot works? Individual posts can get "modded" up or down - they get positive points for being insightful, interesting, informative, or funny and negative points for being trolls, off-topic, or flamebait. Individual users build up "karma" based on their track record, and this affects the starting value of their posts. The posts' ratings affect how visible they are - the top ones are prominent, and the worst ones don't display at all unless you specifically set your browsing level to show them.
Slashdot also has a rotating moderation system, where randomly selected users with good "karma" are occasionally given mod points to give out as they see fit. There's even a meta-moderation system where established users rate moderators, and the bad ones aren't allowed to be selected anymore. So it's fairly complicated, but the good thing about it is that it keeps things impersonal. The "karma" system also rewards users who behave well and keep the same user IDs.

The boards at Fratty are like that. You can either Exalt or Smite a user depending on what you think of their posts. The good people have great karma, and those who have bad karma are way in the negatives.

I don't think it'll fly here on GC and I have a feeling John wouldn't be okay with that. I mean, come on..he doesn't even let us use avatars!

_Q_ 11-30-2005 07:41 PM

OK, this is getting far afield, but is John really planning to write a new GC system from scratch? No offense to him, but I'd think it'd make a lot more sense to choose one of the existing products and then configure it for GC. Doing a roll-your-own one would take a lot of time and there'd be a high risk of bugs and security holes. (Spambots can be a much bigger problem than impolite human users.)

Trust me Q momma. You don't want me as a moderator. The only forum I would actually take seriously would be the Pike forum. I would be such a dictator. Only Pike supporting girls would be allowed to post, anyone making any lude comments about my Pikes shall die (when i say die i mean banned).

If you put me as a mod in any other forum it would be free game. I would only delete post if someone was talking shit on Pikes, Asians, Boston Terriers or my mom. Ok I'm kidding but I wuold let alot of shit fly.

Besides I asked John to be a mod for the Pike forum. Months later he still hasn't gotten back to me.

I guess my " Hey bitch make me a mod or I Keel you" request didn't help.

Vote Bobby for Pike mod, Rudey for AEPi mod, RC for Kappa Sig mod and Jestor for Chi Omega Mod and the world would be ab etter place.

I liken it to a new mod cattle call. He only gets back to you if and when there's a need for new mods. He usually does it when he gets a nice number of candidates. That's how it's been done the last two (maybe three?) times.

What is a good moderator? It seems like a lot of the most offensive posts come from moderators.

Sorry you feel that way. I think that most moderators try to be as fair and respectful as possible.

I would urge you to PM those with whom you have issues, or if you're not comfortable with that, let John, the board administrator know.

Heck, if that's our criteria, nominate me. :D

I've been on this board longer than, well, almost every active poster (hello OTW, you still have me beat :p )...however, I don't post very often. (Don't think I'm not paying attention now, just because I don't say anything, doesn't mean I haven't been reading all the lunatic ramblings. This is a highly "entertaining" group on this board.)

So anyway, just on a purely numerical analysis of the few posts I do make, I am less likely to get all y'all crazy people riled up. (Does anyone else think that there are GC'ers that log on just for the SOLE purpose of getting their panties in a bunch?!)

I am kidding, of course. If I was a mod, I might have to post more often. ;)

Have fun!

I think Honeychile is one of the best moderators... I don't think there is a single person in our forum who doesn't like and respect her. And she is very fair and does a good job of making sure that our adpi forum portrays our sorority well.
