2005-2006 NCAA Basketball Thread
Yeah, it's not even December yet, but college football season is starting to wind down. I LOVE COLLEGE BASKETBALL!!!!
My loyalty lies with my Cyclones, who much like their football counterparts are already having an up and down season. They lost to Iona on Saturday night. (Not a good day for Cyclone sports.) However, tonight they beat the University of Northern Iowa. |
They'll have a chance to beat Texas A&M, Mizzou, Nebraska, Colorado and Baylor of the Big XII. I wouldn't expect them to do any better than 6th in the conference.
|
The husband hates to watch any Cyclone sports with me because I get so involved in the game (which almost always involves me yelling at the tv, throwing something at the tv or switching the channel chanting 'I can't watch this anymore!').
I don't know, it seems we always manage to pull off at least one huge upset a year. Last year it was Texas in OT. |
As a long shot, watch for the Ohio University Bobcats.
Believe it or not. |
I'm excited that Texas is starting out at #2!! Let's see how long it lasts.
In the last couple of years, I've discovered that I really like college hoops! |
UConn is off to a good start. Hopefully Marcus Williams quits his laptop-stealing ways and is able to come back in January. With a good point guard, this could be a championship team.
In other news, the BU Terriers are 0-4, and scored less than 40 points in their last game. |

Can we talk about division 2 womens basketball in here? My school was kick ass when I was in school! Back to Back champions baby! Too bad no one cared.

I think a lot of the ISU preseason ranking started out with Stinson being a preseason All-American and preseason All-Big 12. He's good, and I love to watch him play, but I know he can't carry the whole team. The team doesn't have a strong person at center and that really sucks. |
Go Spartans!
|
Bring on the Green and the White. The season has had some interesting games with my boys, but I think that they might be getting back their swagger.
The Maui Tourney was a test and I took some crap from my friend who is a fan of Gonzaga, but I took it politely. :) :) But 3OT's, that was a great game. Towards the end, it was kind of anyone's game. Note-that I haven't seen many of their games so far since I am not living in MI and they aren't regional for me, but I have seen the scores. So my opinion right now is from what I hear, not what I have seen... |
Milwaukee Panthers baby. Watch out for the boys across the way at Marquette as well.

Did anyone see the shot by that Duke player to beat Va Tech!?!?!?!?

THANK GOODNESS Dockery hit that last shot. Definitely one for the highlight's reel! We are still in shock over here.... |

Anyways that was such am amazing shot. It was really funny when they put 16 seconds on the clock lol. But I think that might be the shot of the year. Definately espy material. |

I have the chance to go to the Jimmy V Classic doubleheader tomorrow night. It's Kansas VS Saint Joseph’s & Michigan State VS Boston College. But I'm undecided if I should go or not. Sigh. The charity cause is worth going but I'd like to enjoy a good game if possible to. Or am I gonna be disappointed?
|
Kansas-St. Joes should be a pretty good game...Kansas hasnt done a lot this season...loss to Nevada last week and only won one game in Maui I believe against Div II Chaminade so they arent the typical Kansas powerhouse. St. Joes lost their best player off of a team that finished 2nd in the NIT (to my Gamecocks)...dont know a whole lot about either team but it should be a competitive game. The MSU-BC game looks one sided comparing the histories of the two schools but I dont know enough about either to say whether that will hold up this year or not.

Games for Jimmy V Classic were fun. First time ever seeing college basketball!
Caught the last 5minutes (which felt like an hour) of the Kansas- St Joe's game & the first half of the MSU - BC game. Good times. GO GREEN! |

How's the wrestling team? |

Then again, conference play just started so we have a long season to go! |
We (The U of Memphis) are currently ranked 7th. We going to beat Providence and then get through Ole Miss.
We kicked the Bearcats butts last week. We haven't won at their arena in years. |

Iowa beat Iowa State in their first duel for wrestling. It's been a disappointing start to the season after recently losing to Minnesota as well. It's fairly young squad so hopefully once they get some experience they'll be better. |
I really wish I got all the UConn games here in Boston. It's not fun having to keep track of them through ESPN and the UConn website.
Luckily I get to see the awful season that my alma mater is having this year. Glad they could handle the powerhouse Harvard basketball team for their first win. |
IU not only beats, but OWNS Kentucky today, 79-53. :D :D :D
|
Duke (#1) blew Texas (#2) away today!! 97 - 66. JJ Redick scored 41 points and had 9 three pointers. WOW!
And to think after the game against VA Tech, I was concerned that Texas was going to blow them away! |

It could have been worse though. This could have happened NEXT Saturday. |
