Looking for Alum
Hello ladies,
The Delta Epsilon chapter is looking for alum. With the help of the new alum chapter, many alums that were out of contact are now in contact, but with the approach of our 20 yr anniversary we want to find as many as possible to make sure they don't miss out on the event. Also a not to Michigan alum, although the windsor alum chapter is just DE alum at the moment, you are welcome to join us and help us broaden our perspective to include our sisters across the border. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif An email address has beeen created for this purpose, but i forgot it http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif , so email the active chapter, please. phisig@uwindsor.ca website: www2.uwindsor.ca/~phisig Jen ------------------ Delta Epsilon - Phi Sigma Sigma |
alumni connections
So often i hear from the fraternities that their alumni support them monetarily and by still participating in events, such as rush and homecoming. I hope some of you have the same stories to tell, and if you do, please tell me how you keep such good relations. do you send out a monthly newsletter? ask for yearly contributions? we could definitely use the funds, and we have 200 alumni, but i don't want to put them off by asking for contributions. i thought about an auction of phi sig stuff that we could invite alumni to and they could bid on, but i don't know if anyone would show up or even bid. if you all have any ideas they would be greatly appreciated! love and roses,
Angi |
Angi,
How active is the local Phi Sig alumnae chapter? How often does your chapter invite them to an event? Are Phi Sig alumnae serving as your advisors? When you say there are 200 alumnae in the area, are those just alumnae from your chapter or all alumnae in the area? I have several suggestions - I'm president of my alumnae chapter and just worked long and hard over the last few years to improve relations between us and the collegians. It's worked well and we now have great participation and communication between the alumnae and collegian chapter. |
A fellow state schooler here
Hi Angi, I'm an ASA alum from Clarion, so I will gather that the situations are similar! :)
Number one is to make sure you keep the alums involved and up to date on what is happening. If you don't have a website MAKE ONE. I'm assuming from the size of your alum base that your chapter is fairly young, so the majority of alums should have computer access or at least be computer literate. Even if you do have that in place, try to send a physical newsletter at least once a year. And don't just fill it with what you are doing - ask the alums to contribute too. When alums do come to visit, don't be afraid to loosen up around them once you get to know them! They probably still like to do a lot of the same things you do, so don't think you need to get out the tea set and white gloves just cause they're 10 years older than you. ;) Does PSS have something set up that you can set up a chapter-based association, rather than the regional type alum chapter? If so, definitely look into it. (Barbara - Shippensburg [like most PA state schools] is basically located in the middle of nowhere and students often leave the area after graduating, so getting a traditional regional alum chapter together - let alone one with enough manpower and money to help the collegians - can be difficult.) Contacting alums can be frustrating, but you have to not give up. You never know when a "lost sister" will come back into the fold and make a huge difference. Good luck! (aack, sorry for the long winded post :p) |
Gamma Gamma Alumni
I noticed Gamma Gamma has quite a showing at this site. I graduated from Clarion in 1997 and have some great memories (of most nights)! It's good to see the chapter is still going strong! Good luck!

Hi! Im from Gamma Gamma! Our Alumnae chair is on here too... Jess Pom... whats your last name? Maybe youre in my family? Hehe... Im from the shrub... I call it that cos my family dosent grow in length, it grows outward... too many branches... I think Im way to excited about this! this is as far back as I can remember....
Sue Corbett | Nicole Clark | Maura Falvo | Julie Kuhns | Me | Sarah Zygowski | Jen Johnson thats my branch ..... <3Ali |
I'm not in your family, but I spent a crazy spring break in Panama City with Sue Corbett and a few other sisters. Lisa Lawson was my little but I don't know who came after her in the family. My maiden name is Kapelski and I feel kind of old admitting this, but I pledged in the spring of 1994. I don't know if my alumni information is updated so I'll have to email it. Later.
Janel |
I found out who all is in your family! My best friend Mary Beth! And our new Archon Steph Kinley....

Thanks for the family info! :) I miss all the good times I had when I was there. Growing up kind of sucks but eventually we all must do it. Give my family a big hello from me!
Janel |
Hey there,
I'm not from Gamma Gamma, but your talk about family trees got me excited. Last night we had our chapter's 20 yr formal and 9 of our 12 local founders were there! It was great meeting them. I got to meet the "mother" of my family tree(we have about 16 "rungs" on our tree) It was fun! I'm one of the few in my chapter that can trace back to the beginning! Thanks for letting me share, LITP Jen |
Thanks for sharing! I have no idea who my family tree goes back to. I know most families in Gamma Gamma have branched off so many times that it's pretty confusing to figure out the trees.
Janel |
My tree!
Our chapter was founded in 1971 by, oh geez... about 21? sisters? Then we lost our charter in 85, got it back in 86, and thats when our recent trees start (although some sisters from the 71 era were sisters in 86... if you know what I mean)
My family founder, well I have 2 in my family, the main one is Tina Falce, she lives up the street from me, according to CO, and Ive writeen to her, and do I get letters back?! No. Blah! We had a founder of Beta Xi Omega come back during ALF! BZO was the local that formed our chapter of Phi Sig, it was so cool to have her note at the house! (we missed her) I can still name the refounders of our chapter (proving that I am, in fact, a huge dork) :) |
There's nothing wrong with being a dork. I myself am a self professed nerd. Who knew I would end up enjoying nerdy type books about history and the unified theory of quantum physics and the theory of relativity. Did I mention I am a member of the National Geographic Society? You'd probably never guess if you had known me a few years ago. All I can say is... if the Loomis walls could talk...
Janel |
LOOMIS@!
Im going to the Loomis tonite, I get to watch yet another sister turn 21... this is now my 2nd time.... (*seeing someone turn 21...hehe) I love the Loomis!
|
How is bar life at CUP? Is that old guy who dances by himself still shaking his groove thing at the Loomis? I think his name is Gib. He was a really nice old guy. I felt bad for him so I danced with him on one my drunken escapades.
Janel |

HI Janel!! I saw your message and had to reply to you!! How are you doing? Everything here is pretty good, still living in Pittsburgh!!
Lisa Lang |
I'm a little behind in my replies...
Kirsten, I can only imagine what you must have heard about me. Most of it is probably true, but it's good to hear from you. Good Luck with graduation. It's funny how for 4+ years we can't wait to graduate and when we do all we want is go back! Lisa, How is Pittsburgh these days? I'm in Florida ejoying the fact that it's December and 70 degrees outside. Actually that's a lie. I miss snow and bundling up with hot chocolate. Have you been in touch with anyone else? I still keep in touch with Jen, Melissa, Beth, Natalie and Amy. Janel |
janel,
Florida?? I wish I was in florida right now!! there is no snow up here yet, it has been warm!! So how are things??? I talk to melissa over email a lot . and I also keep in touch w/jen borrasso, jen torrence, melanie berg, and andrea dillinger. all of them are married now but me and andrea!!! I just started a new job at UPMC Healthplan, it is pretty good so far!! This is cool that we can chat!! I want to be back at the loomis, I might be going up to clarion sometime soon. My boyfriend's brother is graduating from there and we might go to graduation, that would be pretty weird!! hope we can chat soon!!! : ) have u talked to lisa lawson? I ran into amanda list not that long ago also!! there are a lot of sister in pittsburgh still!! Lisa |
Lisa,
Other than the few I email, I don't get to see anyone. I really want to go back and visit Clarion but it's too hard for me to get time off right now. My husband has been bugging me to take him there, he wants to see where I spent 4 years of my life (all my local watering holes). The sad thing is whenever we do get to visit we'll be too tired to stay out all night drinking like we used to...you know that old age thing. Tell everyone I said hello! Janel |
janel
I'll tell everyone that you said hi, I am sure Melissa would want to here from ya : ) How is DeHart? Lisa |
Lisa,
I email Melissa quite a bit and as far as I know Jen is doing pretty good. I just got a Christmas card from her today. Janel |

Hi Lisa,
I don't know if you remember me or not but I am also a Gamma Gamma. I pledged in fall 1997 when you are archon. You probably do just have to see me...I was in Amber and Maura's pledge class. I would like any info on alumnae chapters in the Baltimore Maryland area. I would love to hear from you! When are you coming to clarion for graduation. I read that in another one of your posts. I graduate sat and would love to see you at the loomis. I am taking my 5-6? big Kelly Beatty to the bar for senior walk I think. It would be a lot of fun if you could make it up! Can't wait to hear from you! LITP, Kirsten |
Hi kirsten!!!
Great hearing from you! I sent u an email~~hope to hear back from you soon!!! I'll probably be seeing you this weekend!! I'll get some information on alumnae chapters for you also!! phi sig love and mine, Lisa |
Lisa,
I didn't know that you did that. Anyway, for anyone who isn't Lisa, I'm Melissa. I graduated from Clarion in  December 98 and I was a Phi Sig. |
Hey Janel,
Lisa just told me that she talked to you over this. It's pretty cool. I wish we could all get together and relive some of our times. I miss them. Remember when we photocopied the bread to make it look like an ass? For those of you reading this who don't know me, I'm Melissa Thorwart. I graduated in December 98 and pledged the Spring of 95. You might have heard my name brought up in stories along with Janel and Jed DeHart. We weren't that bad were we? |
Clarion Alumni
Hey,
I heard about this from Lisa so I thought I'd check it out. I'm Melissa and I pledged in the Spring of 95. I feel old now. I graduated from Clarion in Fall of 98. I had some of the best times being a part of that sorority because of the friends I made. |
hey mel,
yeah I have only been an alumnae coordinator for about 6 months, its kinda fun to get to know sisters from all over! Isnt this site cool? By the way I think we are staying at the loomis this weekend, it won't be the same w/o you there!! we'll have to relive our fun times soon!! lisa |
Hi!
I'm Jess from Clarion, I'm active right now, and I'm the alumnae chair currently. Anyway, you photocopied bread??? That's crazy! I would have loved to be here when you did that! Jess:D |
Hey melissa, how are you? I don't know if you remember me, i'm mary beth. I pledged in fall 97 with terri, maura and them. How is everything going? i hope good. If you ever want to chat me im name is xphileusa on aol im. Hope to hear from you. :D
|
:( Hi janel, i hope everything is going good. I am sorry i haven't written back. I have been really busy then i decided to get sick on top of that. I just didn't want you thinking that i forgot about you. Well i hope everything is going good. By the way i was wondering if ou could fill me in with my family history, like who was your big and stuff like tha, and what type of traditions did you guys have in your family? Well i will talk to you later.
Mary Beth aka 2-little:D |
Melissa,
I forgot about the bread until you mentioned it (old age). We did a lot of crazy stuff. I'm very careful about eating brownies...you never know what's in them. At least the stuff we put in them is legal. Jess, Are you sure you would have wanted to get mixed up with us? We were "bad". We had a lot of fun and I have the pictures to prove it. Mary Beth, I hope you're feeling better. I'm not the best source of information on our family. I only know as far back as my big Katherine Herring and my 2big Kristen Warner. We didn't have any traditions that I'm aware of but it's never too late to start. Janel |
Spring of 95 huh! That makes you what...22? I'm still young at heart myself but my bedtime comes around 9 and the beer doesn't go down as well anymore.
|
Jess,
That was just one of the many crazy things Janel and I did. The sisters got a copier one year and they decided to put it by the downstairs bathroom. I lived in C and Janel lived in D. Janel, DeHart, and I were kinda the rebels at that time. We got in lots of trouble, but we had fun and weren't afraid to. How is the chapter doing? What's been going on. My e-mail address is mmthorwart@hotmail.com You can write me there if you want. Janel, I still got that picture of me, you, and Karen in our toilet papering gear! Remember drawing the ghost on the road with the spray paint and going trick or treating to that one guy's house that I thought was hot. Well back to another boring day at work:mad: |
22...I thought I was still around 20. Quit trying to make me older. But yes, bedtime is around 10 and when, if ever, I do go out I'm ready to go home by 11 and one drink makes me sick. How did we used to do that.
Mary Beth, I'm not sure if you are who I'm thinking of. I really wasn't around too much when you pledged, but Terry Fuchs is my 2-little. What are you doing now? My life so far has been pretty good. I've got a good job and a great boyfriend, finally! Tell me more about you. I can't really do the chat thing because I don't have aol and no computer at home. I only have access at work. But we've been thinking about getting one next year sometime. My e-mail is mmthorwart@hotmail.com You can write me there. |
