In Honor of Thanksgiving. . .

What do you hope is NOT served at Thanksgiving dinner next week?

My answer: chitlins

Gina1201 11-17-2005 09:17 AM

Since my mama's not here, I know we won't be having cranberry sauce. I can't stand it! They had this topic on TJMS yesterday. I also found out that the Super WalMart here sells chitlins, not just in the giant 10 lb. bucket. They have small sizes too. I can't stand the smell of those nasty things.

Ditto on this.

I actually don't want the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. I would be happy with some catfish, greens, spaghetti, and hush puppies with vanilla ice cream and fudge browies for dessert.

You and my son both. I just don't get. I LOVE mac & Cheese.

Misbehavn23 11-17-2005 12:21 PM

Plain old dry Turkey. If it isn't smoked or cajun fried, I'm not feeling it.

Sawry Soror. The funny thing is I've never had stuffing. For one, I have this thing about cooked, mushy bread. Second, my true hatred for it stems from the fact that while I was my grandmother's favorite grandchild, she make all this fuss over my cousin- first grandchild- who loved it. She had to make his stuffing for Thanksgiving. So I don't know if I really don’t like the taste, but I'm not gonna stop my tradition of boycotting it, lol.

Now, I definitely don't like the taste of yams- yuck. I agree with treblk about cheese combinations. I'm not really a cheese person. However, mac and cheese is a good combo, lol.

DC_Zeta1920 11-17-2005 03:03 PM

I need to side with Fee Fee. This is definitely heartbreaking.

Proverbs no yams and cranberry sauce. The humanity!! :D

raregem1913 11-17-2005 03:14 PM

I want my job to leave their ENTIRE potluck at home....just order me some pizza and I'm good.

I will never forgot how my boss went on and on about her "stuffing". I should have known something was up then because where I'm from, we call it dressing and it is never blossoming out of the turkey's behind.

But I digress, yall please tell me why her version of stuffing was some salad croutons soaked in chicken broth w/ cut up celery pieces?!??!

I'm not even going to get on her sweet potato pie (canned pumpkin....LAWD, Bless it)

I'm still mad at her, a year later.

Please No Cranberry Sauce! and No DRY AZZ POTATO SALAD ((Auntie))

*That potato salad was so dry it was making people gag.*

And quit putting pecans in every dish, they do not belong in candied yams, greens or mac&cheese. (*ahem* cousin....)

Wonderful1908 11-17-2005 09:26 PM

1.Ham! Yuck it taste like salt!
2. Cranberry sauce..gag

I agree with plain turkey. It has to be fried or injected! :p

I don't like mac n cheese either, mainly the cheese part!

No chitterlings (my in-laws cooked them one Thanksgiving; the smell alone made me gag!)

Dry turkey! It has to be smoked or fried.

Stuffing with eggs in it (my in-laws again! I'm tired of picking them out!!! )

StarFish106 11-18-2005 09:32 AM

Please no String bean casserole...It just looks nasty. One year my MIL asked could I bring that to dinner..In all the years I had been over for Turkey day, that has NEVER been served..and you think I am gonna waste my $$ on messing up my good string beans for an experiment? Uh no....

Now for all you blasphemers out there Pass all your:

Mac and cheese
Yams/Sweet Potatoes
Cranberry sauce (canned or fresh)
Stuffing/Dressing

To me, FeeFee, DCZeta and SmlwonderDST and we will make sure they get a good home :p

*shaking head....how could you not love this good food?

That's a whole meal right there. All you'll need is some turkey wangs to go with it......

btw, a little stuffing on a fork with a lil cranberry sauce on the same fork taste good......LOL

I'm sooo glad I'm not the only that does this.

I sure can't wait until Thanksgiving. :D :D :D

PhDiva 11-19-2005 01:45 AM

Y'all wanna talk blasphemy. I had my first "Caucasian Christmas" a couple of years ago when I was invited to one of my white friend's house for Christmas dinner and they served that "green bean casserole" concoction and Lawd, I thought I was going to turn blue and faint. You just don't do that to a perfectly good batch of green beans. Canned mushroom soup and canned fried onions with green beans? Both of my Big Momma's would have cursed me out for bringing that madness to their table. I'm open-minded and stuff but even I've got limitations :p

its good to know that I am not the only one who does that either and yes I also cannot wait

LOL @ PHDiva. Honestly, green beans and casserole need not ever go in the same sentence nor dish. My family would look at me like I done lost my mind if I ever cooked that sacrilegious dish.

Somebody please explain catfish and spaghetti to me. For the life of me, I can't see how anybody came up with this as a meal. It seems to be a midwest thing, based on the people I know who eat it.

IMO, catfish is the meat for one meal, and spaghetti is the entree for another meal. The two do not belong together.
